The moment Tyler's eyes landed on her, he stopped moving completely.
For several seconds, he just simply stared at her.
"You look marvelous," he said softly, almost breathlessly.
Jean forced herself to stand straighter despite the ache in her chest. "You look good too, Tyler."
The compliment visibly pleased him.
He stepped closer slowly, his gaze moving across her face like he still couldn't believe she was really here with him.
"This," he murmured, "will be our first proper date." A faint smile curved onto his lips. "Are you excited?"
Jean wanted to scream. She wanted to cry. She wanted to beg someone… anyone… to wake her from this nightmare.
But instead, she smiled softly and whispered, "Yes… I am."
The happiness that crossed Tyler's face afterward was almost unsettling in its intensity.
He gently offered her his hand.
