I heard what happened back at the mansion. I nearly rushed there myself, ready to tear through anything in my way—but my wife calmed me over the call, her voice steady, assuring me that everyone was perfectly fine.
Still, I couldn't sleep after that.
So I headed to a private room now occupied by Kai. There was a spare bed beside him where Sophia lay sleeping.
Kai was awake. Silent. Watching. His head slowly turned toward Sophia, his gaze lingering on her like she was the only thing anchoring him. Then he looked at me—then back at her.
I understood.
I approached Sophia first and gently pulled the duvet over her shoulder, tucking her in properly. That was what he wanted. What he needed.
Then I stepped closer to him, a faint smile tugging at my lips.
"So… are you okay right now?" I asked.
He blinked once. Yes.
"I need to go home."
He hummed.
"By the way, for your next surgery… I think your boss arranged something for you."
Another hum.
