Chapter 55 - I Trust You

Later that evening, Sophia pushed her empty plate away with a satisfied sigh.

The ceramic scraped softly against the marble counter. "That was good."

Jane looked pleased, a hint of pride in the tilt of her chin. "You sound surprised."

"I am." Sophia's admission was genuine, her eyes warm.

Jane put a hand over her heart in mock offense. "Rude."

Sophia smiled, slow and unguarded. "I meant it as a compliment."

Jane started collecting the plates, stacking them with practiced ease. "I'll wash these."

"I can help." Sophia began to rise.

"No." Jane's voice was firm, but her eyes were soft.

Sophia stood anyway, reaching for a plate. "Jane."

Jane pointed toward the living room, her expression stubborn. "Sit."

"I don't need to sit." Sophia's voice was gentle.

"You worked all day." Jane pulled the plate closer to her chest.

"And you went to class." Sophia's brow lifted.

"Exactly." Jane's grin was triumphant. "Which means I have enough energy to wash three plates."

Sophia reached for one anyway.

Jane pulled it away, her fingers gripping the edge. "Go."

Sophia stared at her, a mix of amusement and affection in her gaze.

Jane stared back, unwavering.

Neither moved.

Finally, Sophia laughed—a low, surprised sound that seemed to release the tension in her shoulders. "You're impossible."

"And yet you like me." Jane's voice was teasing.

"Unfortunately." Sophia's retort was soft.

Jane grinned, bright and unrepentant. "Very unfortunately."

Sophia gave up and walked toward the bedroom, shaking her head. "You're lucky I like you."

"I know." Jane's voice followed her, warm and satisfied.

By the time Sophia finished showering, the bathroom was thick with steam and the scent of lavender soap.

She wrapped herself in a towel, her damp hair clinging to her shoulders, and padded into the bedroom.

She stopped when she saw Jane sitting on the edge of the bed.

Jane was still wearing Sophia's oversized shirt, the fabric slipping off one shoulder. Her legs were crossed at the ankle, and she was watching Sophia with an unreadable expression—something between admiration and intent.

"Come here." Jane's voice was quiet, but it carried weight.

Sophia glanced at the hair dryer on the dresser, then back at Jane. "I can dry my hair."

"I know." Jane's lips curved.

"Then why are you looking at me like that?" Sophia's voice was curious.

Jane stood, her bare feet silent against the carpet. She closed the distance between them and gently took the towel from Sophia's hands. Her fingers brushed against Sophia's, warm and deliberate.

"Because you're doing it wrong." Jane's voice was a murmur.

Sophia laughed, the sound surprised. "My hair?"

"Yes." Jane's eyes sparkled.

Jane took her hand and guided her toward the chair by the vanity, her touch gentle but insistent. She pushed Sophia down with a light pressure on her shoulders.

"Sit." Jane's voice was soft.

Sophia obeyed with a small, helpless smile, settling into the chair. The wood was cool against her bare skin.

Jane plugged in the dryer, the hum filling the quiet room. "Don't move."

"I thought you said you weren't my nurse." Sophia's voice was teasing.

"I've changed my mind." Jane's grin was visible in the mirror.

Sophia lowered her head slightly, her damp hair falling forward.

The dryer came to life with a warm rush of air. Jane's fingers slid through Sophia's hair, lifting sections with careful precision. The heat was gentle, soothing, and Sophia's eyes fluttered closed.

"You're enjoying this." Jane's voice was close, amused.

Sophia's shoulders loosened, her tension melting away. "Maybe."

Jane smiled, her fingers working through a tangle with patient care. "Comfortable?"

"Very." Sophia's voice was drowsy.

"Good."

For a while, neither spoke. The only sounds were the hum of the dryer and the soft whisper of Jane's fingers moving through Sophia's hair.

The warmth seeped into Sophia's scalp, and she leaned into the touch without thinking—her head tilting back, her neck exposed.

When Jane switched the dryer off, the sudden silence was heavy, intimate. The last echoes of heat faded.

"There." Jane's voice was barely a whisper.

Sophia opened her eyes. In the mirror, Jane was standing close behind her, her hands resting on Sophia's shoulders. Their eyes met in the glass.

Sophia turned slightly, her body angling toward Jane. "Thank you."

Jane smiled, soft and genuine. "You're welcome."

Their eyes held. Neither looked away.

Jane stepped around the chair, her movements unhurried. She stood in front of Sophia, close enough that the hem of the borrowed shirt brushed against Sophia's knee.

Sophia reached for her hand. Jane let their fingers slip together, warm and sure.

"You're beautiful," Sophia said quietly, her voice rough with sincerity.

Jane's smile was slow, almost shy. "You've said that before."

"I know." Sophia's thumb traced Jane's knuckles.

"And you still mean it?" Jane's voice was soft.

"Every time." Sophia's gaze was unwavering.

Jane leaned down, her hands finding Sophia's shoulders for balance. Her hair fell forward, brushing against Sophia's cheek.

Their lips met.

The kiss began softly, almost hesitant—a question rather than a statement. Sophia's lips were warm, slightly chapped from the shower. Jane tasted faintly of wine and something sweeter underneath.

Then Sophia's hand settled at Jane's waist, her palm pressing against the soft fabric of the shirt. She drew Jane closer, pulling her down until Jane's knees bumped against the chair.

Jane's fingers curled into Sophia's damp hair, gentle but insistent. She tilted her head, deepening the kiss. The towel around Sophia's chest loosened slightly, and Jane's thumb brushed against the bare skin of her collarbone.

Neither of them spoke. They didn't need to.

The distance between them disappeared slowly, naturally, until there was nothing left to pretend about.

The chair creaked as Jane shifted, straddling Sophia's lap. Her knees bracketed Sophia's hips, the borrowed shirt riding up her thighs. Sophia's hands found Jane's waist, her fingers gripping the soft fabric.

Jane pulled back just enough to look at Sophia's face—the flush on her cheeks, the slight parting of her lips, the way her eyes had gone dark and heavy-lidded.

"Hi." Jane's voice was breathless.

Sophia's laugh was quiet, surprised. "Hi."

Jane smiled, her thumb tracing the line of Sophia's jaw. "You're blushing."

"I'm not." Sophia's protest was weak.

Jane leaned in, her lips brushing against Sophia's ear. "You are."

Sophia's breath hitched. Her hands tightened on Jane's waist, pulling her closer.

Jane's mouth trailed down—along Sophia's jaw, down the column of her throat. She pressed a kiss to the hollow where her pulse beat, and felt the frantic rhythm beneath her lips.

"Jane." Sophia's voice was strained.

Jane pulled back, her eyes searching Sophia's face. "Tell me to stop."

Sophia's hands slid up Jane's back, fingers pressing against the warm skin beneath the shirt. "Don't."

Jane's smile was slow, deliberate. She reached for the edge of the towel, her fingers brushing against Sophia's chest.

Sophia's breath caught. Her hands found Jane's, their fingers intertwining for just a moment.

"Okay?" Jane's voice was soft.

Sophia nodded. "Okay."

Jane's hand slid up Sophia's side, slow and sure, until her palm cupped the soft weight of her breast. Sophia's breath caught, but she didn't pull away. Jane's thumb brushed over her nipple, feeling it stiffen under the thin fabric of the towel.

"Can I?" Jane asked, voice low.

Sophia nodded.

Jane pushed the towel, exposing Sophia's breasts. She leaned in and took one nipple into her mouth, sucking gently at first, then harder, tongue flicking over the sensitive peak.

Sophia's fingers tightened in Jane's hair. Jane switched to the other breast, sucking and licking until both nipples glistened and Sophia's breathing grew ragged.

Jane's hand moved lower, slipping between Sophia's thighs. She found her already wet, fingers sliding easily through the slick folds. Sophia moaned softly as Jane rubbed her clit in slow circles, then dipped lower to press two fingers inside her pussy.

Jane kissed her way down Sophia's stomach, settling between her spread legs.

She licked a slow stripe up her slit, tasting her, then focused on her clit, sucking and licking with steady pressure.

Sophia's hips rocked against her mouth, thighs trembling as Jane worked her tongue deeper, fucking her with it before returning to her swollen clit.

Sophia came with a broken cry, pussy clenching around nothing as Jane kept licking her through it.

Jane crawled back up, kissing her hard so Sophia could taste herself on her tongue. She shifted, hooking one leg over Sophia's so their pussies pressed together. They started moving, grinding, the wet slide of their folds against each other sending sparks through both of them.

Jane set the pace, rolling her hips in firm, steady thrusts. Sophia met her, rocking back, their clits rubbing together with every movement. They kissed messily, hands gripping, bodies slick with sweat as they fucked each other in the scissors position, chasing another orgasm together.

Jane came first, gasping against Sophia's mouth, her pussy pulsing against Sophia's.

Sophia followed seconds later, thighs shaking as she ground down hard, riding out the pleasure until they both collapsed, tangled and breathless.

Later, the bedroom was quiet.

The only light came from the streetlamp outside, casting pale amber stripes across the ceiling.

The sheets were tangled around their legs, and the air was warm, heavy with the scent of skin and sleep.

Jane lay with her head resting against Sophia's chest, one arm loosely draped across her waist. She could feel Sophia's heartbeat beneath her ear—steady, strong, slowing to a peaceful rhythm.

Sophia stared at the ceiling for a moment, her fingers moving slowly through Jane's hair. The strands were soft, slightly tangled, and she smoothed them with patient care.

Neither spoke.

Then Jane lifted her head, her chin resting on Sophia's sternum. "You okay?"

Sophia looked down at her, her eyes soft in the dim light. "Yes."

A small pause. Jane's brow furrowed slightly.

"Are you?"

Jane nodded, her cheek brushing against Sophia's skin. "Yeah."

Sophia brushed her thumb across Jane's cheek, the touch featherlight. "I was nervous."

Jane smiled, the expression sleepy and genuine. "So was I."

"You didn't look nervous." Sophia's voice was teasing.

Jane laughed quietly, her breath warm against Sophia's chest. "I was very nervous. I just pretended I wasn't."

Sophia gave her a skeptical look, one eyebrow lifting.

Jane's grin widened. "I've had practice pretending I'm confident."

Sophia laughed softly, the sound vibrating through her chest. Jane felt it beneath her ear and smiled.

She settled back against Sophia, her head finding its familiar place. The sheets rustled as she shifted, her hand resting over Sophia's heart.

After a moment, Sophia whispered, "Thank you."

Jane looked up again, her eyes searching Sophia's face. "For what?"

"For trusting me." Sophia's voice was raw, honest.

Jane's expression softened, her fingers tracing a slow pattern on Sophia's ribs. "You trusted me too."

Sophia nodded, her throat tight. "I did."

Jane reached for her hand beneath the blanket, their fingers finding each other in the dark. "I don't want this to change anything between us."

Sophia looked at her, her gaze steady. "It won't."

"You promise?" Jane's voice was small, vulnerable.

Sophia squeezed her hand. "I promise."

Jane smiled, the tension in her shoulders easing. "Good."

She rested her cheek against Sophia's chest again, listening to the steady thrum of her heart.

Sophia kissed the top of her head, her lips lingering against Jane's hair. "I like having you here."

Jane smiled against her skin. "Then you'd better get used to it."

Sophia's arm tightened around her, pulling her closer. "I think I can manage that."

Jane laughed quietly, the sound muffled. "Good."

The room fell silent again.

This time, it wasn't uncomfortable. It was the kind of silence that belonged to two people who no longer needed to fill every space with words—who could simply exist together, breathing in sync.

Sophia closed her eyes, her fingers still moving through Jane's hair. She could feel Jane's breathing gradually slowing, her body growing heavy against hers.

Jane's hand was still clasped in hers beneath the blanket, their fingers loosely intertwined.

Sophia pressed one more kiss to Jane's forehead, then let her eyes drift shut.

And before long, they drifted off together, still holding hands, still tangled in each other, the quiet night wrapping around them like a second blanket.
