Chapter 17 - 17: A certain Professor.

I hadn't thought duties of the assistant class coordinator would be this complicated when I had decided to take over this role.

Currently, I had just come out of the meeting for all class representatives. Apparently, some seniors were coming in next month to address new comers hence the preparations.

"You have done well Nia," Leba complimented

I just nodded in acknowledgement, I was really tired and I hadn't even gone further in discovering anything since the day I was elected assistant class coordinator.

The cube given to me by my parents connected to the adjust room smoothly after I consulted with them so I had to wake up early, train, go to the school library to catch up on every historical and technological advancements I had missed plus also handle class duties. This left me with no time to look into matters that I wanted to look into in detail.

"You look exhausted. Tomorrow is a Saturday, there will be no class. Use it to rest," Leba replied with a small smile.

"Hm. Thank you for the hard work too, you did most it," I replied.

We all then departed to our respect dwelling places.

I took a bathe and fell on bed with a sigh of satisfaction at the comfortable soft beddings.

'Povi?'

I called, he had been silent for a long time that I almost forgot I had an inbuilt talking assistant.

'What can I help you with?' Povi replied.

'I was simply just checking up on you. Can you briefly tell me how you were implanted in me?' I questioned.

Although I had already searched on the Hue network about the workings of the chip, it was better to have different versions of the story.

'It's a simple Branding system of Aetheris, every citizen has their own special system input in their brain at birth. It's a simple chip that doesn't hurt," Povi replied.

'Oh? Can I willingly remove my chip?'I tested.

'That simply amounts to suicide, no one can remove the chip as it is linked to the most sensitive part of the brain,' Povi replied.

This had me thinking. This place was really getting difficult to navigate. Who knew if the chip in everyone's brain was linked to a system that observed one's thoughts? This made me shudder, couldn't that mean my every thought was being heard?

'Any other questions?'

'No more,' I replied.

I retrieved my terminal on the bed side table. I had thought finding a certain professor who taught in this school would be easy but I was very wrong.

I had made inquires about him and indeed got to know his name, professor Njori Fuli but he now only casually lectured and getting him one on one was almost impossible, I knew this because among all teachers that students would consult at any time, he wasn't among, plus, he didn't teach the history major so meeting him was difficult.

I found the list of all the school professors on the school forum easily and once again observed his credentials-went to the top prestigious schools, his parents were once among the top grade federation commanders who died in a mission to save civilians that had a run in with the shadow syndicate. Currently teaching at Anga la.

The information didn't give out anything major and the protest against the federation on other forums was never revealed which left me wondering why such a man from a prestigious family would protest against the federation.

Being drained of strength from the day's activities, sleep took over me.

My feet carried me steadily, my breath uneven as I panted, several people were running besides and infront of me, cries of terror followed as some unlucky people's bodies fell on the ground.

I pushed on with all my might but an invisible force held me in place.

"Here she is! She is hiding among us!" A voice screamed as a gulf of fire evolved me.

A loud ring eventually penetrated my brain as I woke up with a start.

I slowly touched my chest and looked around, only settling down after noticing my surroundings.

I hadn't had such a dream that reminded me of my past life ever since I arrived in this place. I had thought that my past trauma would stay hidden but I guess the past always had a way to sneak in.

My terminal notification went off once again. It had been the one to wake me up.

I picked it up, looking at the time, an hour had passed by.

Joy Rukundo, my classmate was calling.

"Hello?" Greeted.

"Hello, Zahara, tomorrow, a group of classmates will be visiting the Central hub, I felt I should inform you just incase you wanted to go," Rukundo Stated "It's alright if you don't come,"

I thought about it, I needed to relax my mind. Ever since arriving in this mysterious place, I haven't been myself, always on high alert.

This was my life now. I couldn't possibly return to my former world. It was better to live in the moment. Being close to classmates wasn't bad.

"Count me in," I replied.

"Alright! tomorrow at 9:00, meet us at the school gate," Rukundo Stated before the call came to an end.

I picked up my woolen jacket and walked towards my balcony just in time to catch the sun disappearing in a distance.

I picked up my terminal and looked at the time once again, it was approaching 6:00, the exact time that the veil evolved Aetheris. It seems as though I was getting used to this life.

In a distance, several girls were taking an evening walk with their pets, some where jogging while others sat on the benches in the garden with virtual headsets on their faces. I hadn't tried them but I knew their function, these headsets stimulated and broadcasted performances of any kind to one wearing them. Truly fascinating.

Visibly, life here seemed perfect but I couldn't help but still wonder about how it came to be.

I picked up my terminal and anonymously typed on the school leisure forum.

'Anyone to help connect me to professor Njori Fuli?Money isn't a problem,'

I then closed the interference and walked back inside my room to have my dinner and watch some movies to pass time.

I input my order then made a mental note to buy some food tomorrow. I missed the steps it took to make food, everything was mechanical and lucked human touch, it was all good at first but it was starting to take a toll on me, it felt as though I was losing sense of my former self.

A notification from my terminal caught my attention at the moment and a small smile played on my lips.

'If you are serious about meeting the professor, I can make it happen,'
