Chapter 14 - Decay & Prosperity

Slowly the buildings slid more and more into view. A port made from planks which resembled a dark wood. The same with the supports of the buildings, mixed with a dark grey stone, rough by nature. Some with triangular roofs, some just plain and straight. A stone pavement, mixed with dirt and smudges of rotting plants. Stalls further lined withing in the inner part of the city, mostly empty with a few exceptions of the occasional person. Some buildings seemed like they barely held together, wooden supports rotting. Pulling into the harbour, the sound of waves crashing against the stone wall which proudly stood at the base of the docks. There on them stood men, ready to unload whatever goods had been shipped. Euthykritos had pulled some strings for Mira and Galadriel to have upwards of a week to snoop around. Landing on the docks Mira grasped onto Galadriel for support, her legs threatening to give out. "Honestly, Mira. It wasn't that bad, you don't have to hold onto me.." Mira stared at Galadriel for a moment. "I am not holding on cause I'm scared.." She weakly murmured back.

Having gotten directions on where they'll be staying, Mira and Galadriel quietly strolled into the streets. Life felt almost devoid. Yet as they treaded through the desolate streets, they could spot buildings in the distance. Taller more gracious and well put together. Not falling apart, not decaying. The difference between the two was far too noticeable. They were in the slums, the waste which is left over, pushed to outwards to fend for themselves. Mira could feel a shiver run up her spine, this place wasn't good news.

As they neared towards the much cleaner side of the city, they could see people across the streets. Chatting, doing their daily life. Yet not a single one looked towards the decay which was just right there within reach. No one paid mind, but why would they? What does it matter to them whether its prosperous or not. Their lives are far better, they're not the ones out there. Their world is far brighter, cleaner and far more enjoyable. What reason is there to be thrown into such a despicable place?

The people had pale skin, with the faintest greenish tint to it. No one really paid mind to Mira and Galadriel strolling right in, perhaps cause they could tell they were not from there. The air felt cleaner as they walked through the streets. Some even greeted them, urging them to enjoy their stay.

"Don't pay it mind, Mira." Galadriel softly whispered.

"I'm not."

Stepping before a building which stretched slightly higher than most, double doors which only hoped to invite the travellers from afar. "This is the place." Galadriel spoke as her eyes wandered across the building many windows, and the sign saying that it was a hotel of sorts. Mira nodded, taking a deep breath. They headed inside, slipping into the building. They walked up the reception table, handing a card to the person behind the desk. They responded with a room, and both of them headed off. Yet as they made their way down the hallway, Mira felt a sudden hand on her shoulder and almost jumped from the touch. "That's not funny Galadrie.." Yet she saw Galadriel looking back, confused Mira turned to look herself, noticing two people before them. One of them was a girl with ultra violet hair which cascades downwards, stopping a bit after her shoulders, neatly taken care of. Pale skin with a slightly greenish tint to it. One eye is a light pink, yet the other is a pale greyish pink. A set of two scars stretched across the skin surrounding the eye itself. Gloves with metal parts on the fingers. While the other was a guy, with short green hair, streaks of white within them, messy. The skin is just as pale, housing the very same greenish tint, webbing between fingers, resembling a fin like material. Eyes a mix of yellow and orange. Pupils almost resembling stars. Forearms covered in worn bandages, two daggers holstered on each side of his belt.

"Yaho! Pleased to meet you dear travellers.. Or shall I say, Mira and Galadriel." The guy spoke, a smile on his lips, though it felt far too playful, far too casual. "I'm Koroibos, you can call me Koro for short! And this right here-"

"I can speak for myself." The woman spoke up cutting Koro off, voice seemingly slightly tired yet soft. "I am Tonto. What this dumbass here forgot to mention is that we've been informed by Euthy. We know why you're here and we're to assist you."

"Euthy?" Galadriel asked while Mira just sort of giggled at the nickname.

"You mean Euthykirtos, right?" Galadriel asked, while nudging Mira with her shoulder.

"Yeah, but we call him Euthy, shorter and easier." Koro said with a sort of excitement to his voice. "We'll inform you on the intel we've gathered so far a bit later. Make sure to drop down by room 103 in the evening."

"Just take a break for now." Tanto seemingly sighed out, maybe thinking of a chance to rest herself. She then grabbed Koro and dragged him past Mira and Galadriel.

Mira and Galadriel quietly watched their retreating form before moving onto their own thing. Arriving at the room assigned to them, Galadriel unlocked the door and both of them made their way inside. It wasn't too large of a room, it had the necessities. A wardrobe, a bathroom, drawers and what not, shelves stacked with books. Two beds separated by a relatively small gap. Mira quietly settled down on the bed on the right, eyes travelling across the room. Though she noticed that at some point Galadriel had started looking at her.

"What is it?" Mira's voice was rather meek.

"Nothing, just found it a bit silly that you got scared by a touch to your shoulder."

"And you wouldn't?"

"Maybe I would, but it wasn't me." Galadriel shrugged, plopping down onto the other bed. "What do you want to do to kill time?" Galadriel continued.

"... Let's have a nice long chat."
