Afternoon.
Jacob and Nina, who hadn't seen each other in quite some time, strolled through the bustling streets together.
The two tall figures walked side by side through the crowd, looking like models on a street photoshoot, drawing the attention of many passersby.
Perhaps because of Julia, Jacob could clearly sense that Nina wasn't in particularly high spirits today. In fact, she seemed rather preoccupied.
"Jacob," Nina's clear, cool voice suddenly broke the silence. Her gaze fixed on the loving couples walking past them on the street, seemingly lost in thought.
"Hmm?" Jacob responded.
"Nothing... I just wanted to ask you something." Nina's voice was very soft, almost like a whisper. "When are you leaving today?"
"After dinner, I suppose." Originally, Jacob had planned to leave around four or five in the afternoon, but noticing Nina's subdued mood, he decided to spend more time with her. "No matter how busy I am, I'll have dinner with you before I go."
Hearing Jacob's words, a brilliant smile appeared on Nina's face. "Then you're cooking today."
"Alright," Jacob agreed. "Let's go to the supermarket together then. Buy whatever you want to eat, and I'll make it for you."
"Okay!" Hearing Jacob's words, Nina's mood visibly improved, and she happily went to the supermarket with him.
...
After one trip through the aisles, their shopping cart was already packed full, including quite a few men's pajamas and toiletries.
As Jacob explained it, he needed to buy some things for himself.
"Let's go. I'll cook for you when we get back." Jacob smiled at Nina, finding her especially endearing in that moment, which made him want to tease her.
Nina gave Jacob a pointed look and walked ahead.
Ever since Nina had stepped down from her position at the Dragon-type Secret Realm, she'd moved back into the city from within the Realm itself. Her new home was also near League University. Although it wasn't as luxurious as Purple Mountain Villa, it was a very nice high-rise apartment, and purchasing the top floor had also come with a balcony.
This was Jacob's first time visiting Nina's new home. The apartment was spacious and decorated in a cool, minimalist style.
Jacob first placed the purchased drinks into the refrigerator to chill, then carried the ingredients into the kitchen, preparing to cook an elaborate dinner for Nina.
Just as he was about to tie on an apron, Nina stopped him. "Forget it, I'll do it today. Today is your birthday, so naturally I should be the one cooking. You can cook for me another time. Go rest for a bit—you've had dark circles under your eyes lately."
Hearing Nina's words, Jacob's heart tightened, and a cold sweat broke out. A significant portion of those dark circles was thanks to Raya.
"Let's do it together instead. I'll be your assistant. As the saying goes, 'When a man and woman work together, the work isn't tiring.'" Jacob quickly changed the subject.
"Come here, I'll tie your apron." Jacob didn't give Nina a chance to refuse, smiling as he said, "Turn around."
Listening to Jacob's words, Nina silently turned around while also picking up a hair tie to put her hair up.
...
Happy times always pass too quickly.
After dinner, Jacob silently stood up to wash the dishes. Once he finished, he would have to leave the Capital and head to Black Dragon City.
"Let me do it." Nina quickly stopped Jacob, stood up, and took the dishes and utensils from his hands, saying to him with concern, "You should head back early. Make sure you get proper rest tonight—don't overwork yourself."
It had to be said, this was the difference between mature women and younger women: older people were more caring and considerate.
