Chapter 135, Episode 135

[Rain of Dungeon, Floor 100]

[WraithLord rose fully from his throne of shadow, the fabric of his robes rippling like something alive, and rolled his shoulders in slow, deliberate preparation]

WraithLord: Fire. Earth. Wind. Time. Water. Ice. My guards fell to you, which means you're stronger than most who reach this floor. I hold all six of what they carried, and more besides. Let's see if that's enough.

Laxcarseel: It won't be.

WraithLord: Confidence. I like that in something I'm about to end.

[He moved first — shadow pooling low and fast across the chamber floor, erupting upward into spears of dark that Infinite barely deflected in time, ice meeting shadow in a hiss of frost and dark vapor]

Infinite: He's fast.

WraithLord: Faster than fast, some days.

[He followed with fire, a wave of it rolling across the chamber's stone floor toward Lilura, and her Sword Lunar drank in the ambient light of the chamber's torches just quickly enough to intercept it, steam hissing where flame met absorbed moonlight.]

Lilura: Warm.

WraithLord: It gets warmer.

WraithLord — Earth Collapse.

[The floor beneath Pandorami buckled and rose, stone spikes driving upward, and she caught herself mid-fall with a burst of her own drain ability, siphoning the kinetic force of the collapse back into her own reserves before it could do real damage]

Pandorami: Efficient!!

WraithLord: I've had a long time to refine it.

[Jairulioyo came at him directly, lightning arcing fast and precise, and WraithLord answered with wind — letting the lightning curl harmlessly past him on a current of his own making]

Jairulioyo: You're reading my angles.

WraithLord: I read everyone's angles. It's the one advantage that scales with intelligence instead of raw output.

[He shifted to time next, a localized slowing field spreading from his feet, trying to buy space to layer a second spell — and Laxcarseel simply erased the field's underlying concept before it finished forming, the same casual, absolute negation he'd used on the guards]

WraithLord: That's the same trick from before.

Laxcarseel: It works. I don't retire tricks that work.

[The fight ground on, WraithLord cycling through element after element, layering incantations faster than any single guard had managed, and for a long stretch it looked, genuinely, close — the five of them working in careful, practiced rotation, covering gaps, absorbing what they couldn't block, dealing damage in careful increments rather than overwhelming force]

WraithLord: You're not trying to overpower me.

Pandorami: Wouldn't work if we did. You'd adapt.

WraithLord: Then what are you doing?

Laxcarseel: Wearing you down. Same as we did to your guards. You've got six elements and every incantation that goes with them. That's a lot to maintain simultaneously against five separate pressure points.

[WraithLord went quiet at that, and something in his stance shifted — not weaker, but more careful, the specific recalibration of someone realizing, mid-fight, that the math wasn't quite in his favor.]

[Infinite's frost finally caught along WraithLord's shadow-cloak, slowing the fabric's fluid movement just enough that Jairulioyo's next lightning strike landed clean across his shoulder]

[Lilura's blade followed a half-second later, cutting deep along his side, and Pandorami's drain latched on in the same instant, pulling steadily at whatever reserves remained]

[WraithLord staggered]

[Laxcarseel closed the distance last, and with a single, final application of Liberal Infinity, erased the last of WraithLord's active spellwork entirely — every element, every incantation, gone in an instant]

[WraithLord dropped to one knee]

WraithLord: That's — a complete loss.

Laxcarseel: Complete.

[He was quiet a moment, catching his breath, the mask still giving nothing away.]

WraithLord: What happens now. Death, I assume. That's usually how this ends for dungeon guardians who fall.

Laxcarseel: Not necessarily.... this time

[He extended a hand — not to help him up exactly, just an offer, held out and waiting.]

Laxcarseel: You're strong. Genuinely. Stronger than most things we've faced. We're offering you a place instead of an ending. Serve our lord. Leo.

WraithLord: Your lord.

Jairulioyo: The one who built the world above this dungeon. The one strong enough that all five of us combined still fall short of him by a wide margin.

[WraithLord considered that for a long moment, weighing it.]

WraithLord: You're saying even if I recovered fully and challenged him directly—

Laxcarseel: You'd lose. Badly. He's roughly a hundred times stronger than the five of us put together, and we're not weak.

[A pause, and WraithLord let out something that might have been a laugh, low and rough behind the mask.]

WraithLord: That's either the most honest recruitment pitch I've ever heard, or the most insulting.

Laxcarseel: Bit of both, probably.

WraithLord: And if I refuse.

Lilura: Then you stay down here another few centuries until someone else eventually beats you. Your choice.

[He was quiet for a while, considering it, the chamber's cold stone holding the silence.]

WraithLord: Alright...

Laxcarseel: Alright?

WraithLord: Alright. I'll serve him. Been down here long enough that the idea of actually seeing daylight again is worth more than my pride at this point.

[He took Laxcarseel's offered hand and let himself be pulled up.]

WraithLord: Lead the way, then.

Infinite: Welcome to the Astronomical Guardians

WraithLord:"We'll see if I still feel welcome once I meet the man you're all this afraid of underselling.

Pandorami: You won't be disappointed.

[Meanwhile Issac and Quinn in search of Queen Chloe]

[A week had passed since Voriath's defeat, and the two of them had spent most of it simply walking — no urgency, no war, just open road and quiet conversation]

Quinn: You've been staring at that same patch of sky for like ten minutes.

Isaac: Thinking.

Quinn: About?

Isaac: My parents.

[He said it simply, and Quinn softened, settling beside him without pressing further right away.]

Quinn: You still don't remember much.

Isaac: Fragments. My mom's voice. I got separated from both of them a long time ago, before I ever ended up in the Chaos Universe, and I've never actually gone looking. Never had the time, or the strength, or honestly the courage.

Quinn: And now?

Isaac: Now I've got all three.

[He looked over at her, and something in his expression shifted, warmer, quieter.]

Isaac: I want you to come with me. If you want to

Quinn: Obviously I want to.

[A pause settled between them, comfortable but charged, and Isaac reached over, hesitant, and gently took her hand.]

[Quinn blushed, immediate and unguarded.]

Quinn: You're being romantic. That's new.

Isaac: I contain multitudes.

Quinn: You really don't.

Isaac: Rude.

[She laughed, and the laugh softened into something quieter, and before either of them fully decided to, they were leaning in, and the kiss that followed was slow and a little clumsy and entirely, mutually wanted.]

[When they broke apart, both of them were a little pink.]

Quinn: So.. Issac..

Isaac: Yea wsp!

Quinn: I want to be your girlfriend. Officially.

Isaac: Ohh Yeah. Okay. Yes.

[He grinned, and she grinned back, and for a moment neither of them said anything else at all.]

[They talked for hours after that, walking the long road toward wherever the trail led, trading pieces of themselves they hadn't gotten around to sharing amid the chaos of the war]

Quinn: I'm the Queen of Dragons, by the way. In case that never came up properly.

Isaac: That definitely never came up.

Quinn: It's a whole thing. Bloodline responsibilities, a throne I mostly ignore, a council that gets very frustrated with how often I'm not there.

Isaac: You're royalty.

Quinn: Technically.

Isaac: And you never mentioned it.

Quinn: Didn't seem relevant during a war against the Hyper God

Isaac: Fair point.

[He was quiet a moment, turning something over.]

Isaac: I don't even know what I am. Not really. Human, dragon, some fire bloodline nobody's ever named for me — I've got no idea. Just the fire, and Twilight, and Cinder, and no answers about where any of it actually came from.

Quinn: Maybe your mother has them.

Isaac: Maybe??

[He squeezed her hand a little tighter, and they kept walking.]

[They asked everyone they passed — travelers, merchants, farmers tending roadside stalls — showing a worn, faded picture Isaac had carried since before he could remember carrying it, a woman with his same sharp eyes and warm, tired smile]

[Most people shook their heads]

[Then, outside a small waystation town, a woman named Ilsabet paused at the picture longer than anyone had]

Ilsabet: I know this face.

Isaac: You do?

Ilsabet: That's Queen Chloe. Rules a kingdom about three days east of here — Netherworld Kingdom. Word is she's been searching for a lost son for something like seven years now. Whole kingdom knows the story. Breaks your heart a little, honestly.

[Isaac went very still.]

Isaac: I'm her son.

[Ilsabet's eyes widened.]

Ilsabet: You're— truly?

Isaac: I think so. I need to find out.

Ilsabet: Then you'd better come with me. I can lead you most of the way there myself.

[Scene switched to the Netherworld Kingdom]

[The Netherworld Kingdom rose out of the horizon like something built to be looked at from a great distance — tall, elegant spires wrapped in soft, ambient light, defensive barriers shimmering faintly along the outer walls, layered enchantment after layered enchantment stacked for pure protection rather than show]

Ilsabet: This place has been through a lot. It was rebuilt more than once. Queen Chloe's put everything into keeping it standing and keeping her people safe — the barrier work alone is some of the most advanced defensive magic in this whole region.

Isaac: It's beautiful.

Ilsabet: It is. This is as far as I go, though. I hope you find what you're looking for.

[She left them at the outer gates, and Isaac stood there a long moment, just looking up at the spires, before Quinn's hand found his again.]

[She blushed at her own boldness, though neither of them commented on it.]

Quinn: Ready?

Isaac: Not even a little.

Quinn: Good. Let's go anyway.

[They found an inn near the market district and, without much discussion, booked a single room — both of them going a little pink over it, neither one objecting]

Quinn: One room.. please

Isaac: One room??

Quinn: Both of us.

Isaac: We're dating now. I feel like this is allowed.

Quinn: It is... you have a point I'm just teasing.

[They settled in for the evening, and the conversation drifted easily between them — quiet, warm, entirely unaware of what had happened inside the palace only hours before they'd arrived.]

[At the Throne Room — What They Didn't Know]

[Queen Chloe stood at the center of her own throne room, spine straight despite the weight pressing down on her, facing Queen Ferna and Ferna's four children arranged in a loose, confident line behind her]

Ferna: Seven years, Chloe. Seven years of searching for a son who is very likely dead, while your kingdom's resources bleed dry funding the search. It's time to step aside.

Chloe: My son is not dead.

Ferna: You don't know that.

Chloe: I know it the way a mother knows it. Which is more certainty than you've ever needed for anything you've taken.

[Ferna's eldest, Zev, stepped forward, arms crossed, smug.]

Zev: She's right, though. You've let this kingdom stagnate chasing a ghost. My mother has the army, the alliances, the resources to actually protect these people.

[Roxana, the second-born, added coolly]

Roxana: And you have... what. An empty search and an empty throne room.

[Cedric, third-born, smirking]

Cedric: Step down gracefully, Chloe. It'll go easier.

[Emily, the youngest, said nothing, but her expression carried the same easy contempt as her siblings]

Chloe: I built the barriers protecting this kingdom myself. I have not stagnated. I have grieved, and searched, and ruled, all at once, for seven years, and I will not hand this throne to someone who thinks strength is measured in army size alone.

Ferna: That's precisely why you're going to lose it.

[She raised a hand, and the guards flanking the throne room's outer doors — Ferna's guards, positioned there under the pretense of a diplomatic escort — moved forward.]

Chloe: You wouldn't dare.

Ferna: I already have.

[Chloe fought — genuinely, fiercely, magic flaring in defense of her own throne — but the guards were many, and coordinated, and she was one woman defending a room against a force that had clearly planned this for longer than she'd realized.]

[She was overwhelmed within minutes, restrained, and led from the throne room toward the palace's lower levels, toward a cell that had, apparently, been prepared well in advance]

[Ferna settled onto the throne without ceremony, her four children arranging themselves around her with easy, practiced confidence, as if this had always been the natural order of things]

Ferna: Netherworld Kingdom has a new queen.

Zev: Finally.

Roxana: About time.

[Outside, in the market district, Isaac and Quinn sat together in their small inn room, entirely unaware that the mother he'd crossed the world to find had, within the very hour, lost everything she had left to search with.]

[The scene switched to the Cell]

[The cell was cold, bare stone with a single high window letting in a thin strip of moonlight, and Queen Chloe sat against the far wall with her knees drawn up, eyes closed, not sleeping]

[She was remembering]

[A small boy, barely old enough to walk properly, reaching up with both hands for the spoon she held, insisting he could feed himself even as half of it ended up on his own face instead of his mouth. His laugh — bright, unguarded, entirely without the weight of anything the world would eventually put on him]

[Chloe, quietly, to the empty cell]

Chloe: You're alive.

[She said it the way she'd said it every day for seven years — not as a question, not as a hope, but as something she simply knew, the way a mother knows the sound of her own child's heartbeat even from a great distance.]

Chloe: I don't care what anyone says. I don't care how long it's been. You're alive, Isaac, and I am going to find you.

[She closed her eyes again, and let the memory of that small, laughing boy carry her, gently, toward sleep.]

[The Next Day]

[Isaac and Quinn approached the palace gates at midmorning, and the two guards posted there gave them exactly the look Isaac had expected — the specific, dismissive once-over reserved for travelers who looked like they were about to ask for spare coin or day labor]

Guard One: Palace's not hiring today.

Isaac: Not here for work.

Guard Two: Then move along. This isn't a place for beggars.

Isaac: I'm the queen's son.

[Both guards stared at him for a moment, and then burst out laughing.]

Guard One: The queen's son? Chloe's son's been dead for years, kid. Whoever told you that story was having a laugh at your expense

Guard Two: Move along before we make you.

[Isaac, without a word, reached into his coat and pulled out the same worn photograph he'd shown a dozen strangers on the road — his mother's face, younger, smiling, arms wrapped around a small boy who was, unmistakably, him.]

[The laughter died instantly.]

Guard One: That's—

Guard Two: That's the queen. That's the picture from the search posters. Word for word, that's the exact photo.

[They looked at each other, then back at Isaac, genuine shock replacing the mockery.]

Guard One: You're really—

[Quinn, stepping up beside him, arms crossed, steady]

Quinn: He really is. And I'd suggest you let us through before you become the reason the queen's son had to wait outside his own home

[The guards exchanged one more uncertain look, then stepped aside.]

Guard Two: Go— go on through.

[Isaac pushed the palace doors open himself, and the two of them walked in together, footsteps echoing across the wide, ornate hall]

[Ferna, seated on the throne with her four children arranged around her, rose immediately, expression sharpening into open hostility]

Ferna: Who dares walk into my palace uninvited—

[Guards moved to flank them from both sides, and Isaac simply raised a hand, entirely unbothered.]

Isaac: I'm Chloe's son.

[The throne room went dead silent.]

Zev: That's impossible. He's been dead for years.

Roxana: This has to be some kind of trick.

Quinn: It's not a trick.

[Isaac pulled the photograph out again, holding it up plainly, and Ferna's composure cracked visibly at the sight of it.]

Ferna: That's— that's genuinely the same child from the search records.

Cedric: That can't be real.

[Emily said nothing, but her expression had gone carefully, visibly uneasy]

Ferna: Guards. Arrest them both. Intruders, regardless of whatever claim they're making.

[The guards moved forward — and Isaac, without lifting a hand, without so much as raising his voice, let a fraction of his presence spread across the room.]

[The guards simply weren't there anymore simply erased, cleanly, in the space between one step and the next, and the throne room's remaining occupants stared at the empty space where a dozen armed men had been standing seconds earlier]

[Quinn, smirking, hand on her hip]

Quinn: That's my boyfriend.

[The four children's heads snapped toward her in unison.]

Zev: Boyfriend?!

Roxana: You're both insane—

[Zev, Roxana, and Cedric all moved at once, magic flaring, clearly intending to make an example of the intruders — and Quinn simply stepped forward to meet them.]

[Quinn's Answer]

[She didn't bother with fire]

[She hit Zev with a single open-palm strike that sent him through the throne room's outer wall before he'd finished casting whatever he'd been reaching for, caught Roxana's incoming spell mid-formation and crushed it between two fingers, and swept Cedric's legs out from under him with a motion so fast it barely registered as movement at all]

[Cedric, from the floor, genuinely stunned]

Cedric: That was just— that was just physical strength—

Quinn: Yep.

[Roxana, backing away, staring at her own shattered spell]

Roxana: You didn't even use magic.

Quinn: Didn't need to.

[Emily, wisely, didn't move at all.]

[Isaac and Ferna]

[Isaac turned his full attention to Ferna, who had gone rigid on the throne, her earlier confidence replaced by something far more careful]

Isaac: Where's my mother.

Ferna: I don't answer to you.

Isaac: Where.

Ferna: You have no authority here—

[Something in Isaac's expression shifted, and the temperature in the throne room began, subtly at first, to climb.]

Isaac: I'm going to ask one more time.

Ferna: I won't—

[The temperature spike stopped being subtle.]

Isaac — Rising Heat.

[Fire didn't erupt so much as simply exist, suddenly, everywhere at once]

[His heat, radiating outward from him in waves that made the throne room's tapestries begin to smoke, the stone walls themselves starting to glow faint orange at the edges]

[Zev, dragging himself back through the broken wall, staggered]

Zev: What— what is this—

Roxana: I can't— I can't breathe properly—

[Cedric's clothing had begun to smolder at the seams, fabric curling and blackening from heat alone, and Emily had dropped to her knees, gasping, hands pressed against her own throat.]

[Cedric, choking]

Cedric: This isn't— this isn't possible, no fire does this—

[Quinn, standing unaffected in the middle of it all, watched the rest of the room struggling to breathe and shook her head, almost fond.]

Quinn: This is barely anything. This is maybe a sliver of what he's actually got. His full fire power sits somewhere past ninety sextillion degrees. What you're feeling right now isn't even close to that.

[The throne room's stonework had started, audibly, to crack.]

Isaac: Where. Is. She.

[Ferna, finally breaking, voice cracking with genuine panic]

Ferna: The lower cell block! Third level down, past the old archive— it's sealed, it's meant to be impossible to break, I swear that's the truth, please—

[Quinn crossed to Isaac's side, resting a hand gently on his arm.]

Quinn: Hey. She told you. You can stop now.

[The heat receded almost instantly — not fading gradually, just gone, the room's temperature dropping back to normal in the space of a breath, the scorched tapestries and cracked stone the only evidence anything had happened at all.]

[Isaac exhaled, some of the tension leaving his shoulders.]

Isaac: Thank you.

[He said it plainly, to Ferna, without malice, and turned to go, Quinn falling into step beside him without needing to be asked.]

[Meanwhile in the Cell]

[They found the sealed block exactly where Ferna had described, a heavy door layered with enchantment after enchantment, thick enough that even a dedicated siege crew would have struggled against it for weeks]

Quinn: Allow me.

Quinn — Dragon Maint.

[The technique gathered at her feet, taking shape — a dragon's outline formed of pure, condensed power, ancient and overwhelming — and a single strike from it tore the sealed door apart entirely, enchantments and stone both giving way like they were nothing at all]

[Isaac, staring at the wreckage]

Issac: That's — that's a little excessive.

Quinn: You're one to talk.

Isaac: You're funny

[They stepped through into the cell beyond, and there, rising slowly from where she'd been sitting against the far wall, was Chloe.]

[She looked at him for a long moment — really looked]

Chloe: Isaac.

[He didn't answer. He couldn't. His knees just gave out, and he was on the ground, and then she was there too, arms wrapped around him so tightly it might have hurt if either of them had cared, and Isaac cried — completely, unguardedly, the way he hadn't let himself cry through the entire war, through the loss and the fighting and everything that had come after.]

[Isaac, barely getting the words out]

Issac; Mom— Mom, I'm sorry, I'm so sorry it took this long—

Chloe: You're here. That's all that matters. You're here, and you're alive, and I never once stopped believing that.

[She held him, rocking gently, and Quinn stood a short distance away, smiling, letting the moment be entirely theirs.]

[Eventually, Isaac pulled back, wiping at his face with the back of his hand, and Chloe finally looked past him, noticing Quinn properly for the first time]

Chloe: And who is this?

Isaac: This is Quinn. My girlfriend.

[Chloe's face broke into a warm, delighted smile.]

Chloe: Oh, wonderful. I hope my son isn't giving you any trouble.

Quinn: No trouble at all.

Chloe: I mean — no naughty business, young lady. He's still my baby, whatever he's grown into since.

[Isaac, mortified]

Issac: Mom.

[Quinn, equally mortified, going bright red]

Quinn: No! No, nothing like that—

[Chloe, grinning now, clearly enjoying herself]

Chloe: You two are adorable when you panic. What a naughty boy you've become.

Isaac: I have not—

Chloe: I'm teasing, I'm teasing.

[Quinn and Isaac exchanged a helpless glance, both laughing despite themselves, the tension of the last several minutes finally breaking into something lighter.]

[Isaac's expression sobered a moment later.

Isaac]

Issac Mom. What happened to Dad??

[Chloe's smile faded, replaced by something older, quieter.]

Chloe: He left. Before you were even born. I was pregnant, and he decided that wasn't the life he wanted, and he was gone before I could even finish telling him.

Isaac: Screw him.

Chloe: I used to think that too. Doesn't matter much anymore. I've had you to think about instead, even when I didn't know where you were.

[Isaac nodded, and didn't press further — he'd gone seven years without her, without answers, and right now none of that mattered as much as the fact that she was standing in front of him, alive, safe.]

[Chloe, studying him more closely now, something proud creeping into her expression]

Chloe: You've gotten so much stronger since I last saw you.

Isaac: I had good training. And a rival who wouldn't let me stay comfortable.

Chloe: A rival.

Isaac: Leo. My best friend, really. More like a brother, at this point. We push each other.

Chloe: I'd like to meet him someday.

Isaac: You will.

[Quinn, watching the two of them, finally spoke up.]

Quinn: Can we please get out of this cell now? It smells like seven years of nobody cleaning it.

[Chloe, laughing]

Chloe: Fair enough.

[The Throne Room, Again]

[The three of them made their way back up, and Ferna and her four children were exactly where they'd left them — battered, humbled, and clearly unsure what came next]

[Chloe stepped into the room, and the shift in atmosphere was immediate — Ferna rising from the throne without being told, the four children instinctively straightening, the old authority reasserting itself the moment its rightful owner walked back through the doors]

Chloe: Ferna.

Ferna: Chloe, I—

Chloe: Seven years you had this throne, and in seven years you never once considered that a mother searching for her lost son might actually be right to keep searching. You built your claim on the assumption that I'd already lost. You were wrong. I'd suggest you remember what that feels like.

[Ferna said nothing. There was nothing to say.]

[Isaac, standing beside his mother, felt something settle fully into place — the search finally over, the years finally closed, the woman beside him exactly as warm and fierce as the fragments of memory he'd carried his entire life had promised she'd be.]
