Chapter 5 - The armor

Two hours later, at his family home, he was sleeping when he heard a noise from downstairs, waking him up.

"It's been a while, kid," said Kuruk.

"Yeah, you had us worried for a minute when he passed out," said Wan.

"What happened, and how did I get home?" he asked.

"Well, after we closed the rift, it took a lot of energy out of you, causing you to pass out. Your girlfriends had to take you back home," said Kiyoshi.

"First of all, not my girlfriends, and second, we're just friends," he replied, all the past avatars and the spirit of light, gave a dead pen.

"And thirdly, are you guys back to normal?" he inquired.

"Oh, you mean if people can see us? No, we used up all the energy that Scroll gave you when you closed the portal. How did it even open?" said Wan.

"Maybe the spiritual energies that allow us to reincarnate here, instead of in our original worlds, are connected to the portal," suggested Rava.

"Alright, enough of that. You said they bought me home," he asked.

"Yep, but lucky for you, your mom and sister weren't home," said Kiyoshi.

"That's good," he said, relaxing. His phone buzzed, and he saw it was a group text from Felicia and Gwen.

"Are you feeling better?" she sent.

"Yeah, I am. How long was I out?" he replied.

"If I had to guess, about two hours," responded Gwen.

"Yeah, I guess using that power drained me a lot. By the way, where did you get all that technology yesterday, Gwen?" he asked.

"I am planning to start a foundation with the tech I built it a Underground lad in the building you used for training, thanks to my Stark internship. I'm constantly upgrading it with at least $5,000 from my earnings."

There was a pause in the chat.

"Geez, that's a lot of money," Felicia commented.

"It most certainly is. And after you got bit by the spider, what powers did you get? Are they all spider-related? Do you fart webs now?" he joked.

"For your information, no. I have enhanced strength and speed, and I can sense danger with a sort of pain in my mind. I can also shoot organic webs from my wrists," Felicia replied.

"Though he did have a good point—webs coming from your posterior?" Gwen teased.

"Also, you built an entire lab/base of operations beneath the warehouse," he added.

"Yes, construction is ongoing with workers there at night. I'm surprised you didn't notice any new materials whenever you came in," Gwen said.

"I thought you were giving me more materials to use my Air Bending," he replied.

"That was part of it," Gwen confirmed.

Before they could continue, a massive explosion sounded off in the distance.

"What was that?" Felicia asked.

"It seems there's a fight between two metal men on the streets of New York," Gwen reported.

"I'm good; go ahead and handle it. You two should stay away," he instructed.

"No way, I'm coming with you," Felicia insisted.

"Felicia, you just gained your powers a few days ago. You're not sure how strong or fast you are, so no," he replied.

"Fine, but at least take something to help even the odds. I left you a suitcase with some gear I think you'll like," Gwen offered.

He got up, saw the suitcase, and transformed it. Inside, he found black fingerless gloves and a sleek black and red outfit with a hood, no sleeves. Fitting it on, he cheered as he stored some utility tools on his waist and read a note:

"I hope you enjoy this. We made it in our spare time to help. Inside the utility belt are healing pellets and energy bars in case you run low. The suit is flame-resistant and durable.

Hope you enjoy it.

Sincerely, Gwen and Felicia".

Smiling, he put the last piece—a small mask covering his eyes—on. The mask didn't restrict his vision; instead, it enhanced it, allowing infrared and x-ray vision.

He slipped on the matching black and red shoes, similar to Deku's hero suit.

He opened the window and jumped out, activating his flight to fly toward the scene.

In the scene, Ironmonger was about to hit Iron Man with a motorcycle. He sped past but was suddenly blasted backward by a powerful gust wind.

"Who did that?" Ironmonger asked as he got up, while Iron Man turned to see a teenager-like figure, muscular, wearing a black hood and a domino mask.

"It's a little late for being emo. You might want to get out of here," Iron Man said, ignoring the kid.

The boy aimed his hand, shooting fire at Ironmonger, forcing him to retreat.

"Interesting," said Ironmonger.

"Jarvis, what technology is he using?" Iron Man asked as Jarvis's AI started scanning.

"Sir, there's no detectable technology explaining his abilities. The only noteworthy item is his earring, made of high-caliber, flame-retardant, air-resistant material," Jarvis analyzed.

"That's not enough to defeat me," Iron Man said, raising his hand as bullets began firing from his shoulder-mounted cannons.

Unfazed, the team activated a spinning barrier around him, deflecting the bullets back at Ironmonger, denting his armor.

"That's it. Let's even the odds," Iron Man declared, activating his boosters. He sped toward Ironmonger, trying to blitz him, but the team easily dodged his attack.

"Enough," the kid used his air-bending to send a forceful sound wave, knocking Ironmonger back. His jets were damaged, and he landed on Stark Industries' roof.

He floated nearby with Iron Man as they landed in front of the fallen villain.

"I must say, kid, you're quite the interesting fellow," Iron Man remarked.

"Don't call me kid. I'm the avatar," he shot back.

"Avatar of what? A downer," Iron Man chuckled.

Suddenly, a loud shout came from the top of the building.

"I'm not done yet!" Ironmonger, heavily damaged, appeared again.

"Do you want to finish him?" Iron Man asked.

"Why don't we do it together?" the kid replied. They both lunged forward, punching Ironmonger in the face and sending him flying into the glass of the building, which crumbled and fell into the reactor below.

"Oh no, we should probably start running," Iron Man said as they moved away.

They stood outside as the building erupted in flames, a threat erased.

I turned to leave.

"Who are you?" a voice called.

Turning, I saw Agent Coulson pointing his gun at me.

"I recommend putting that down. It won't do much against me," Tony advised.

"I'm the avatar, that's all you need to know," I replied, conjuring a tornado around me as I vanished from sight.
