Chapter 548 - Chapter 548: Battle Castle

Chapter 548: Battle Castle

~Third POV~

[Sinnoh Region, Later, Battle Zone – Battle Castle]

The interior of the Battle Castle was nothing short of regal. Polished marble floors reflected the flickering glow of ornate chandeliers, and the walls were adorned with precious gems that caught the light, casting a shimmering aura over the arena. A long, plush golden carpet stretched from the grand entrance to the center of the battlefield, where the air felt heavy with the weight of prestige.

High above, sitting upon a throne that overlooked the entire arena, was Lady Caitlin. Her presence was cold, composed, and undeniably powerful. Below her, acting as her right hand and the manager of the facility, was Darach.

*CLANG*

His current battle was reaching its climax. Gallade, a paragon of psychic and fighting prowess, faced down the opponent's final Pokémon – a formidable Porygon-Z, its digital form shimmering with data.

*PEW*

The Porygon-Z launched a torrent of Tri Attack, but Gallade, anticipating the move with his heightened senses, deftly spun, deflecting the beams with a finely honed blade crafted from psychic energy, a 'Psychic Spoon' he had manifested from a focused Psywave. It gleamed, momentarily, like an ethereal broadsword.

Azure commanded, his voice ringing with confidence, "Gallade, finish it with Strong Style Leaf Blade!"

With a powerful surge, Gallade lunged, his arm blades flaring with verdant energy. The 'Psychic Spoon' glowed emerald as the true power of Leaf Blade manifested…

*SHING*

The attack struck true, a clean, decisive cut that sent the Porygon-Z crashing to the ground, its programs momentarily scrambled. The digital Pokémon flickered, then reverted to its Poké Ball in a burst of red light.

The battle attendant announced, his voice booming through the stadium, "Porygon-Z is unable to battle! The victory goes to Azure Sky!"

A collective gasp rippled through the onlookers, followed by polite applause. This was Azure's 13th consecutive victory, a flawless streak that commanded respect. From her ornate throne, Lady Caitlin, the enigmatic princess of the Battle Castle, observed with serene interest.

Her pale eyes, usually half-lidded, were fixed on Azure, a hint of curiosity stirring within them. With a subtle nod, she signaled her dignified butler, Darach.

Darach declared, his voice smooth and refined as he approached Azure, "Excellent work, young trainer."

He held a small, antique-looking device. He pressed a button, and the device chimed softly as it informed him, "Lady Caitlin bids me award you your Castle Points for this impressive streak. You have earned 26 Battle Points. Your current total stands at 85."

From the stands, Gengar, shimmering with her unique pallor, floated next to Azure's unhatched partners. She remarked, her voice a low, raspy purr that only Azure and his Pokémon could understand, "Hmmph, 85 points already, Boss? Quite the haul, if I do say so myself."

Pikachu, Eevee, and Pichu (Mew) watched with wide eyes, impressed by their trainer's prowess. Rotom, nestled within Azure's Arc Phone, whirred to life, its screen displaying an infographic, said happily, "Affirmative! Azure has initiated its Battle Castle challenge! Initial participants commence with 10 Castle Points. Points are accrued through victories and can be strategically deployed for various in-battle advantages, including Pokémon healing or temporary item acquisition. At 85 points, the mathematical probability of optimized resource allocation becomes a critical factor in sustained success."

Gengar floated closer to Rotom's screen, her spectral fingers tapping lightly, adding, "Indeed, little data-bot. I wonder just how our Boss plans to manage those precious points. Will he hoard them like a Snorlax with berries, or spend them with the abandon of a wealthy tourist?"

Darach, with a polite smile, turned to Azure and asked politely, "A significant sum of points, wouldn't you agree? Will you be utilizing them now, trainer, or do you intend to save them for later challenges?"

Azure stroked Pikachu's head thoughtfully. While the immediate urge was to save, the earlier battles had been tough, and the challenges would only grow more formidable. He gave it some thought…

He replied casually, a hint of his strategic mind at play, "I'll save them for now, Darach. I want to see how far my team can go on their own power before I start leaning on external aid."

Darach's smile broadened, a subtle shift in his usually composed expression. He made a note on his clipboard as he uttered, "A bold strategy. Very well."

As Azure prepared for his next encounter, Darach glanced back at the retreating trainer, a faint sparkle in his eyes. Darach mused internally, 'He relies on the raw power of his Gallade, Froslass, and Magmortar. Undeniably strong, a formidable lineup. But the Battle Castle isn't merely about brute strength or clever tactics in battle. It's about endurance. It's about foresight. One needs to manage their resources, their Castle Points, just as meticulously as they manage their Pokémon.'

Darach knew that the true test of a Pokémon Trainer. It wasn't just winning but winning smart. The battles continued, a relentless gauntlet designed to push trainers to their limits. Azure's team, well-honed from his past adventures, met each challenge with unwavering resolve. The rhythm of the Battle Castle was becoming familiar: opponent, battle, victory, repeat.

Magmortar, his orange cannons glowing intensely, unleashed a scorching Strong Style Flamethrower!

*WHOOSH*

A torrent of super-heated flames roared across the arena, aimed squarely at a swift Zangoose. But the White Weasel Pokémon, eyes narrowed, executed a precise Detect, vanishing in a blur of motion just as the fire washed over its previous position.

Azure muttered, his brow furrowing slightly, "A clever move."

The Zangoose reappeared, claws blazing with menacing energy, and lunged forward. It screamed, connecting with a powerful Crush Claw directly onto Magmortar's sturdy arm, "ZAN! GOOOSE!"

*SLASH*

Magmortar grunted, heat shimmering around him, but the attack clearly annoyed him. Azure called, making a swift decision, reading the course of the battle, "Magmortar, switch out! Gallade, you're up!"

*POP*

With a flash of red light, Magmortar returned, and Gallade materialized in its place, blades already extended. The Zangoose, momentarily surprised by the sudden change, hesitated. That was all Gallade needed as Azure commanded, "Gallade, Slash!"

*SWISH—SHING*

Gallade moved with blinding speed, a silver blur across the battlefield. His arm blade cut through the air, carving a clean arc. Zangoose, still reeling from the unexpected switch, couldn't react in time.

*THUD*

The powerful Slash connected, sending the Pokémon tumbling to the ground, unconscious. Darach announced, his voice carrying clearly through the stadium, "Zangoose is unable to battle! Azure Sky records his seventh victory of this set!"

Azure let out a soft sigh of relief, though his expression remained focused. Each battle was a test, requiring quick thinking and adaptability. Just as he was about to recall Gallade, a familiar, ghostly form materialized beside him.

Gengar cajoled, her spectral hand taking his arm with a surprising firmness, gently pulling him a few steps away from the main battleground, "Boss! A word, if you please, for your best Ghost Type ever."

Pikachu and Eevee exchanged a look before trotting after them, while Pichu (Mew) just clung tighter to Azure's jacket. She continued, her voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper, "Boss, you know the key to victory here isn't just about smashing your opponents, Boss. It's about the points. Using them wisely, I mean. Look at that Zangoose with its Detect. Could have been a nasty surprise if you hadn't reacted so fast."

Azure nodded slowly, his eyes thoughtful. He agreed calmly, "You're right. I noticed that. It used Detect to avoid Magmortar's Flamethrower. I could have pushed the attack, but I didn't want to risk a super-effective counter."

Rotom, ever the data anorak, buzzed in agreement, projecting a holographic display of Zangoose's stats, chimed in, "Precisely! Boss, you could have circumvented this tactical surprise by spending Castle Points to view detailed information regarding his opponent's move set before engagement. Such foresight significantly increases battle efficiency and reduces unforeseen variables."

Azure nodded again, the lesson sinking in. He knew the rules, of course, but in the heat of battle, the temptation to rely purely on his team's strength was strong. He said shamelessly, ticking off the rules on his fingers, "I know, I know. One point for identifying the opponent's Pokémon. Two points for identifying their full stats or obtaining a berry. Eight points to recover Power Points, for stamina. And ten points to fully recover a Pokémon's health."

Gengar said happily, her spectral grin widening. She floated back, seemingly appeased by her trainer's knowledge, "Good, Boss, you remember. Now, let's get back in there and show them what we're made of! But first… maybe a quick look around? I always enjoy the scenery between battles."

Azure chuckled, obliging his shiny Gengar's whimsical request. They took a brief stroll, observing the lavish interior of the Battle Castle.

The Battle Castle truly lived up to its name. It wasn't just an arena; it was a monument to opulence and tradition. The very floor beneath their feet was adorned with elegant, deep-pile carpets patterned with intricate golden embroidery, leading a grand, winding path from the entrance to the central battleground.

Overhead, majestic chandeliers crafted from glittering crystal hung like frozen waterfalls, casting a warm, inviting glow that danced off the polished marble pillars. Along the walls, sparkling jewels – rubies, emeralds, and sapphires of immense size – were set into niches, catching the light and refracting it into a thousand dazzling fragments. It was a place designed to inspire awe, a testament to the power and prestige of its owners.

In the stadium itself, high above the battlefield, Lady Caitlin, the true princess of this magnificent domain, sat upon her ornate, golden throne. She was an image of serene authority, her presence commanding attention without needing a single word.

From her vantage point, she quietly oversaw the unfolding battles, a silent judge of skill and strategy. Below her, ever-present and impeccably dressed, her butler, Darach, moved with practiced grace, directing trainers to their appointed battlegrounds and, with a courteous bow, handing out the hard-earned prizes to the victors. He was the quiet engine of the castle, ensuring its smooth operation.

Before returning to the fray, Azure made a detour. He approached a small, ornate pedestal where a Castle staff member stood, ready to assist with point transactions. Azure's mind raced through his options.

His team was strong, but held items could make a significant difference, especially as opponents grew tougher. The rules of the Battle Castle prevented trainers from using their personal items. Azure stated, "I'd like to withdraw some held items, please."

The attendant nodded, gesturing to a glowing holographic menu, and asked, "Certainly, trainer. Which items do you require?"

Azure thought for a moment, recalling the strengths and weaknesses of his current active team. Gallade needed to land critical hits, Froslass needed a safeguard, and Magmortar's special attacks could always use a boost.

Azure began viewing the held items on the menu, "A [Scope Lens] for Gallade, please, and a [Focus Sash] for Froslass. Lastly, [Wise Glasses] for Magmortar."

*Tap-Tap*

The attendant tapped a few commands. Then the attendant asked, "[Scope Lens], 20 Castle Points. [Focus Sash], 10 Castle Points. [Wise Glasses], 20 Castle Points. Total expenditure: 50 Castle Points. Your remaining balance will be 35 Castle Points. Is that correct?"

Azure confirmed, "That's correct."

He mused to himself internally as he purchased the held items, 'A significant chunk, but the tactical advantage will be invaluable.'

*CHING*

With a soft chime, three items materialized on a velvet cushion. He swiftly attached the [Scope Lens] to Gallade's belt, the [Focus Sash] discreetly around Froslass's waist, and the [Wise Glasses] perfectly on Magmortar's fiery face.

With his adjusted team, their new gear glinting subtly, Azure returned to the battlefield. The energy around him was palpable. The held items gave his Pokémon an edge, a further layer of strategy. And it paid off.

Victory after victory followed, a testament to his skill and his revised tactical approach. The initial string of wins had been impressive, but with the added support of the Castle Items, the battles truly became a breeze.

The cheers of the crowd grew louder, more frequent, as Azure's name began to circulate through the castle halls. He was on a roll, an unstoppable force, racking up an astounding twenty consecutive victories!

This marked his seventh battle of what was now his third set, and the anticipation in the stands was thick. Gengar hovered excitedly, her spectral tail swaying. Pikachu bounced on Azure's shoulder, Eevee chirped with delight, and even little Pichu (Mew) wriggled in his jacket, sensing the heightened atmosphere. Rotom, meanwhile, projected a small "WIN STREAK: 20!" banner above Azure's head on its screen.

Azure murmured to his partners, "Alright, our next opponent should be a real challenge. Let's see what the Battle Castle throws at us this time."

All eyes, including Azure's, turned towards Caitlin's throne, expecting the elegant princess to finally rise and accept his challenge. But much to their surprise, and a palpable shock that rippled through the spectators, Lady Caitlin remained serenely seated, her expression unchanged. Instead, a figure stepped forward from the shadows, not towards her throne, but onto the battlefield itself.

*TMP*

It was Darach, the refined Castle Valet. He moved with an almost unnerving grace, his usually calm demeanor now imbued with a subtle, undeniable power. He was the picture of composure, yet his presence commanded the arena. A collective gasp swept through the castle. Someone in the stands whispered, the revelation echoing the unspoken thoughts of many, "Darach…?! That guy?! But he's… he's the heir!"

Darach stopped at the center of the stadium, directly opposite Azure. He offered a slight, respectful bow, his eyes meeting Azure's with an intensity that held both deference and challenge.

He confirmed, his voice resonating with a newfound authority that belied his usual subservient role, "Indeed. While Lady Caitlin owns this castle, it is I, her loyal butler and the appointed heir, who will challenge you, Azure Sky."

The air crackled with a sudden, electric tension. The buzz of the crowd died down, replaced by a profound silence, expectant and reverent. This wasn't just another battle; this was a clash with a true master, a Frontier Brain.

Azure's eyes widened, then a wide, exhilarating grin spread across his face. Pikachu let out a joyous "Pika-Pika!" as Eevee bounced off Azure's head, twirling in anticipation. Even Pichu (Mew) let out a tiny, delighted "Pichu!"

Gengar clapped her ghostly hands together with a delighted cackle. She exclaimed, her voice echoing with mischievous excitement, "Ooh-hoo-hoo! Now this is going to be good, Boss! A real challenge!"

Azure took a deep breath, the thrill of the moment coursing through him. This was it. This was what he came for.

He looked at Darach, then at his team, a silent promise in his gaze.

Azure declared, his voice firm, brimming with anticipation, "Alright, Frontier Brain Darach. Let's do this!"

With that, the battle with the Frontier Brain began!
