Chapter 594: Prelude to Black and White…
~Third POV~
[Kanto Region, 2 Months Later, Pallet Town – Oak's Lab]
The sun, a fiery orb climbing higher in the Kanto sky, cast long, dancing shadows across Professor Oak's sprawling ranch. 2 months had flown by like a speeding Dragonite, and Azure Sky, at seventeen, felt the familiar hum of anticipation thrumming beneath his skin.
His journey to Unova was imminent, but first, his new team, a vibrant mosaic of potential, needed to be ready. He stood near the edge of a designated training field, a vast expanse of packed earth bordered by lush grass and a few strategically placed boulders.
Pikachu, a contented weight, chirped softly from his shoulder, his tail occasionally twitching in thought. On his head, Eevee snoozed peacefully, a fluffy, warm crown, while tucked securely in his jacket, a transformed Pichu (Mew) occasionally vibrated with silent amusement.
In his shadow, a deeper, more profound darkness shifted – Darkrai, Marshadow, and his gleefully mischievous Shiny Gengar, who, even unseen, radiated a playful energy. His Arc Phone, a sleek device humming with the presence of Rotom and Porygon-Z, rested in his pocket.
Azure watched, a small smile playing on his lips, as the latest members of his Unova-bound team pushed their limits. Training wasn't just about raw power; it was about understanding, connection, and evolving not just in form, but in spirit.
Azure called out, his voice clear and resonant, "Alright, Golett, focus your energy! Mega Punch, now! Drilbur, counter with Metal Claw!"
*Whoosh*
The ground trembled as Golett, a sturdy, automaton Pokémon with glowing blue eyes, slammed its powerful, rock-hard fist forward. Its movements were precise, almost mechanical, yet imbued with a surprising intensity.
*CLASH*
Drilbur, a small yet incredibly agile mole Pokémon, darted beneath the punch, its claws turned metal, tearing at the earth. Bits of stone and soil flew upwards, coalescing into a barrage of sharp projectiles that rained down around Golett.
The automaton intoned, planting its feet firmly, "Gollett!"
It took the hits with impressive stoicism, its body designed for durability. Azure commended, his mind racing, "Excellent power, Drilbur! Golett, remember our lessons – anticipate the ground vibrations!"
Drilbur had hatched from an egg just two months ago, a tiny, eager spark of life. It had taken a couple of weeks for the little guy to fully acclimate and begin its training, but once it did, its progress had been explosive. Its natural burrowing abilities, combined with Azure's guidance, had made it a formidable ground-type in a surprisingly short time.
Golett, on the other hand, required a different approach. Being an Automaton Pokémon, it processed information differently, relying on direct combat instructions. It wasn't about instinct as much as finely tuned execution.
Azure had spent countless hours detailing attack patterns, evasive maneuvers, and strategic positioning. The sparring sessions with Drilbur were proving invaluable, forcing Golett to react to an unpredictable, fast-paced opponent.
It learned at an astonishing rate, its blue eyes seeming to absorb every command, every nuance. Gengar's voice, a low, playful growl, echoed from Azure's shadow, "Golett is really getting the hang of it, Boss! That little mole is a good sparring partner, always keeps it on its toes!"
Azure agreed, a mental nod towards his shadowy companion, "It certainly is, Gengar. Their contrasting styles make for perfect practice."
*Hisss*
Nearby, the air shimmered with heat, not from the sun, but from a bustling fire training arena. Tepig, his youngest fire-type, squealed with delight, a burst of ember escaping its snout. It was a bouncy, energetic Pokémon, eager to please and even more eager to learn. And it had the best teachers in the Kanto region.
Azure's Arcanine, a magnificent beast of fire and loyalty, barked encouragement, his powerful tail wagging. Infernape, a whirlwind of martial arts skill, demonstrated a precise Flame Wheel, leaving a fiery trail in its wake.
Charizard, Magmortar, Blaziken, and Houndoom, a formidable lineup of firepower, stood as silent, guiding presences, their very aura radiating mastery. Azure directed Tepig in a casual tone, "Tepig! Focus your Ember, like Arcanine! Feel the heat build in your belly, then release with purpose!"
Tepig squealed, "Woo-pig!"
*HISSSS*
Its belly glowed faintly before a small yet determined Ember shot forth, singeing a patch of grass. It wasn't spectacular, but it was an honest effort, and the proud gleam in its eyes was unmistakable.
Arcanine let out a deep, rumbling bark, nuzzling Tepig gently with its snout, a gesture of approval that made the little Fire Pig beam, "Bark! Arf! (Good work, kiddo! Keep practicing that control!)"
Azure watched the scene, a warmth spreading through him. Tepig was a sponge, soaking up every lesson, every piece of advice from its powerful mentors. Its passion for battle, its sheer joy in wielding fire, was a delight to witness.
Azure thought, adjusting his hat slightly, '2 months, and they've come so far. Drilbur and Golett, a duo of brawn and speed. Tepig, a little monster in the making.'
He shifted his gaze to another section of the ranch, a more secluded area where illusions danced in the sunlight and a shimmering, red-orange cocoon pulsed with life. This was where Zoura and Shiny Alpha Larvesta trained.
Zoura, a master in training of deception even at its young age, was currently mimicking a flock of Pidgey, flitting through the air with astonishing accuracy. Blue and yellow feathers seemed to ripple in the breeze, indistinguishable from the real thing until they vanished with a mischievous poof!
*POOF*
Azure subtly communicated, a mental link shared between them, 'Zoura, try to hold that form longer!'
This Zoura, captured from the Anime Timeline, possessed a rare second ability that he developed: Telepathy. It was an invaluable asset, allowing for silent, instant communication. He'd captured it during the events of the Zoroark movie, a testament to his knack for finding extraordinary Pokémon.
Zoura, a male, responded with a playful huff; its true form, a small, fox-like Pokémon with a striking red mane, reappeared. It then shifted, this time taking on the appearance of Yellow's Zoroark – its own mother. The illusion was flawless, right down to the subtle sway of the 'Zoroark's' hips.
Azure thought, a ripple of pride, 'Clever boy.'
He had mainly focused Zoura's training on its Illusion ability, encouraging it to master the art of disguise and misdirection. And with its mother, Yellow's Zoroark, now one of Yellow's invaluable partners, Zoura had learned incredible methods, observing and imitating with a keen eye for detail.
The depth of its illusions, the way it could perfectly mimic vocalizations and even subtle movements, was already nearing professional levels. Azure smirked as he thought, 'That little guy is gonna be such a troublemaker; I know it.'
Next to a patch of sun-warmed earth, the Shiny Alpha Larvesta, an unusually large and shimmering Bug-Fire type, slowly wiggled. She's female, her golden-orange segments gleaming. Azure had captured her from the same Anime Timeline, persuading her to join his team on the promise of abundant food and a safe, peaceful home.
Oak's Ranch, with its endless supply of berries and secluded groves, had proven to be the perfect sanctuary. Azure instructed gently, "Larvesta, another Ember, remember the power you feel when you warm your inner threads."
*HISSS*
Larvesta let out a soft cry, and a small, controlled burst of flame erupted from its mouth, "Chirp! (On it!)"
Its progress was gradual, not as explosive as Tepig's, but steady and consistent. It was building its strength, learning to harness its fiery essence from the same impressive lineup of Fire-type mentors.
The 'Alpha' designation meant it naturally possessed more power and resilience than a typical Larvesta, and Azure was patiently nurturing that potential, knowing the incredible Volcarona it would eventually become.
Rotom's digitized voice buzzed from the Arc Phone in Azure's pocket, "All of them are coming along beautifully. Data indicates impressive growth curves across the board. The collective skill set of your Unovan team is rapidly diversifying."
Azure replied, a quiet appreciation for the Pokedex-like insights, "Thanks, Rotom. They're a good group. Eager to learn, eager to grow."
Finally, Azure's gaze settled on the center of the main training field, where a more intense battle was unfolding. This was the culmination of two months of indirect learning, of observation, and of finally, direct focus for two of his oldest Unova team members: Deino and Alpha Rufflet.
Deino, a small, dark bipedal dragon Pokémon, roared with surprising ferocity. Its three-pronged tail thrashed, and it charged with a raw, untamed power. It had hatched here in Kanto, a rescue from a criminal-controlled Sunnyshore City, where poachers and hunters had threatened its existence. Despite its tumultuous beginning, it had found a haven at the ranch.
*Whoosh*
Deino unleashed a powerful Dragon Pulse, a shimmering orb of draconic energy, straight at its opponent!
Azure commanded, his eyes sharp, "Rufflet, dodge and use Aerial Ace!"
*Wooosh*
Alpha Rufflet, a robust, eagle-like Pokémon with striking red and white plumage, answered with a sharp cry. This Rufflet, a male, was an anomaly. Azure had acquired its egg during his time-traveling escapades in the Hisuian Era, making it, chronologically, the oldest member of this Unova team by two or even three years.
Yet, for much of its young life, it had simply played, observed, and learned from Azure's other mighty Pokémon, rather than undergoing focused training. That was about to change when he decided to train them.
Rufflet, larger and more powerful than typical for its species, executed a swift barrel roll, narrowly avoiding the Dragon Pulse. Screeched, "Screee!"
*SMACK*
With a powerful beat of its wings, it zipped forward, its body glowing with fighting energy, and struck Deino with a precise, quick blow.
*Thud*
Deino stumbled back, grunting. Azure instructed, "Deino, Dragon Tail! Rufflet, counter with Brave Bird!"
Deino's tail glowed with a fierce, green energy, attempting to smack down at Rufflet. But the Alpha Rufflet was already spiraling, gathering speed, its body enveloped in a fiery-blue aura. Azure murmured, a sense of satisfaction swelling in his chest, "They've truly absorbed so much from their seniors."
Deino, despite its small size, fought with the tenacity of a true dragon. It had learned from the best: Dragonite, Salamence, his mighty Alpha Garchomp, the serene Kingdra, and even the celestial Rayquaza, through gentle advice and light sparring sessions that pushed it to understand the flow of draconic energy. Its Dragon Pulse and Dragon Tail were already potent, showing the influence of its powerful mentors.
Alpha Rufflet was no less impressive. Its Aerial Ace was swift, and its Brave Bird, though risky, was executed with confidence. Its flying skills had been honed by observing the majestic flights of Dragonite and Salamence, the elegant maneuvers of Togekiss, the sheer power of its Shiny Gyarados, and the defensive prowess of Skarmory. Rayquaza, too, had imparted lessons on aerodynamics and control in the higher atmosphere, making Rufflet a truly formidable avian combatant.
Azure's voice urged them on, a mix of encouragement and strategic guidance, "Good! Keep the pressure, Deino! Rufflet, watch its movements!"
The battle raged, a blur of dark scales and rushing feathers. Deino, surprisingly quick for its build, tried to land a bite, while Rufflet used its aerial superiority to keep just out of reach, swooping in for quick attacks.
Deino unleashed an Outrage, its eyes glowing red with uncontrolled dragonic power, charging wildly, "ROAR!"
Azure saw the opportunity and barked, "Now, Rufflet! Use that momentum!"
Rufflet screeched, "Screee!"
*CRRRASH*
Rufflet met the charge head-on, its body vibrating with raw power, a full-force Brave Bird launched with unwavering determination. The two Pokémon collided in a burst of energy, a powerful crash that echoed across the ranch.
For a moment, dust and energy obscured them. Then, slowly, two distinct glows began to emanate from the cloud…
*FLASH*
Gengar's voice, a little louder now, full of delighted anticipation, drifted from Azure's shadow, "Oh, lookie here! Looks like someone's getting an upgrade!"
Azure's eyes widened, a wide, genuine grin spreading across his face. He knew this feeling, this energy. It was the thrill of evolution. The dust began to settle, revealing two distinctly larger, more powerful silhouettes.
"ROOOOAAAARRRR!"
Deino had grown, its body elongating, a second head sprouting from its neck. Its dark scales gleamed, and its two heads, each with a single red eye, looked around with a newfound confidence.
It roared, a dual cry that vibrated with power, "Zwei! Zweilous!"
Azure immediately checked Zweilous' status info.
[Zweilous the Hostile Pokémon. The fur stops at the chest and opens up to fuchsia striped bands on the side of its legs. Though it appears to lack eyes, it is unknown if Zweilous is blind. Zweilous has the vigor and energy to eat and bite constantly without stopping. Its heads dislike each other and are very hostile. If neither head is given equal attention by someone, they will fight out of envy.
Each head has its own likes and dislikes. As a result, the heads often turn eating into a competition, each head trying to claim leadership by eating more than the other. Because of this, Zweilous always ends up overeating and is covered in scars, even without opponents to fight. This allows Zweilous to become stronger without any allies helping it. It is a nomadic Pokémon; it migrates once it has eaten all the prey in an area, its two heads arguing over directions. However, Zweilous generally makes its habitat in caves.]
|Name: Zweilous (Hostile Pokémon)

Simultaneously, the glow surrounding Rufflet intensified, its form stretching, its wings expanding. The red and white plumage became more defined, more regal. Its beak hardened, and its talons sharpened.
When the light faded, a magnificent, imposing, gigantic eagle Pokémon stood where Rufflet once was. Its piercing yellow eyes scanned its surroundings, emanating an aura of majestic strength.
"BRAAAAVIAAAARRRYY!"
This wasn't just any Braviary. This was an Alpha Braviary, its sheer size and presence undeniable, a powerful symbol of the Unova region. Azure immediately checked its info as well in the process.
[Braviary the Valiant Pokémon. Braviary is extremely aggressive, but for noble reasons. It is known for its bravery and pride, and will fight fiercely to help and protect its friends. Even if it is injured or has its life threatened, it will still fight. The more scars it has on its front, the more respect it gets from its peers.
Scars on its back will bring it ridicule, however. It has earned the nickname "the hero of the skies" due to its extreme dedication to its friends. Aiding its valiance, Braviary is extremely strong, capable of lifting a car and flying with it. However, due to its hotheaded and belligerent nature, it was rejected from being the Flying Taxi carrier in Galar in favor of Corviknight. Braviary is usually seen as a motif for different emblems.]
Azure felt a surge of elation, a profound sense of pride. He had seen countless evolutions, but each one was a unique miracle, a testament to the bond between trainer and Pokémon, and the resilience of life itself.
Azure strode forward, his pace quickening, "Yes! Excellent, both of you! Zweilous! Braviary! You both did amazingly!"
Pikachu, Eevee, and Pichu (Mew) all stirred, chattering excitedly, sharing in Azure's joy. Zweilous, still getting used to its new heads, nudged Azure's leg, a low growl of happiness emanating from both mouths.
Alpha Braviary landed gracefully beside them, its wingspan impressive, its powerful talons gently tapping the earth. It chirped, a deep, resonant sound, puffing out its chest proudly, "Braaav! (I feel the power!!)"
Azure praised, reaching out to gently pat Zweilous's heads, then running a hand over Braviary's sleek, powerful feathers, "You've both grown so much. Your hard work, your determination, it's all paid off."
He then pulled out a small, translucent capsule. He held up the Ability Capsule as Azure explained, "And Braviary, just one more thing to maximize your potential. This will change your ability from Defiant to Sheer Force. With your Alpha power, it will be far more useful in battle, boosting the power of moves with secondary effects, like your Brave Bird, at the cost of those effects. More raw power."
Braviary chirped, understanding the tactical advantage, nodding its proud head, "BRAAV! (More power, huh? Gimme!)"
*Shiii*
Azure gently pressed the capsule against Braviary's chest. A soft light enveloped the Pokémon for a moment, then faded. Braviary ruffled its feathers, a newfound surge of power seeming to ripple through its musculature.
He then checked Braviary's status screen and smirked.
|Name: Braviary [Alpha] (Valiant Pokémon)

Azure declared, his smile radiant, "There we go! Now you're truly ready. Zweilous, Braviary, the entire team – you've all powered up beautifully."
Gengar remarked sassily, its shadowy form briefly seeming to solidify for a moment before melting back into Azure's shadow, "Mission accomplished, Boss! Now we just need to pack the bags!"
Rotom buzzed, equally excited by the news occurring spoke, "He's right! All primary training objectives for the Unova team have been met. Optimal time to depart is calculated for tomorrow morning."
Azure looked out across the ranch, a serene calm settling over him. 2 months of patient guidance, intense training, and unwavering belief had transformed a collection of promising Pokémon into a cohesive, powerful unit ready for the challenges of the Unova Region together. He thought of the gym leaders, the distinct culture, and the new adventures awaiting him. He looked at his team, then back towards the rising sun. He mused aloud, a new resolve firming in his voice, "Unova… Tomorrow morning we leave. And we'll be riding in style."
He looked at Alpha Braviary, who chirped happily in response, already sensing its role. Azure smirked, stating, "Get some rest, everyone. We have a big day tomorrow."
The magnificent Alpha Braviary let out another powerful, eager cry, its wings already wanting to taste the winds that would carry them across regions. Azure smiled. The Kanto mornings were beautiful, but the promise of a new adventure in Unova was even more captivating.
