Chapter 205 - Chapter 205: Getting a Mentor

[Third Person Pov]

"The Savior?" Danny asked, tilting his head in confusion. 'I didn't beat the Ghost King yet, so he has no reason to treat me like—'

Danny's thoughts were interrupted by Frostbite as he laughed and said, "Haha, that's right. The Ghost Zone was on the verge of destruction when it was being merged with the living world, but it was you who prevented that and restored the balance between the two realms."

"Ahhh, I understand now," Danny said with an awkward grin, scratching the back of his neck as he looked off to the side. He didn't feel like he had done anything that impressive. "Was the Ghost Zone really being destroyed? I thought it was simply merging into the physical world."

Despite being a being of ice, Frostbite let out a warm chuckle. He turned toward the others with him and raised a hand slightly. "Everyone, make our guest feel welcomed." A few of the yeti-like ghosts nodded and stepped aside respectfully. Frostbite then looked back at Danny and motioned with his head. "Follow me."

Danny was about to move when he felt Ember's hand reach for his arm, stopping him. She was staring at Frostbite's back with clear suspicion, her eyes narrowing slightly. Trust didn't come easy to her.

Danny gently lowered her hand and gave her a small, reassuring smile. "It's alright. I don't think he's dangerous or means any harm."

"And how could you possibly know that?" Ember scoffed, folding her arms.

"The same way I knew about you," Danny replied with a casual wink before lifting off and following after Frostbite.

Ember stood still for a moment, her expression shifting as a faint tint spread across her face. She quickly looked away and pursed her lips. "That brat… just who does he think he is," she muttered, looking away to hide her flush state.

Danny landed beside Frostbite as they moved deeper into the frozen landscape, the ground crunching lightly underfoot while faint wisps of ghostly energy drifted through the air.

"The Ghost Zone and the world of the living are separated for a reason, you know," Frostbite began, glancing down at Danny with a calm smile.

Danny nodded slightly, listening.

Frostbite continued, his tone steady and thoughtful. "The Ghost Zone is not merely a place where spirits wander. It is something far more complex. You could think of it as a container, a realm shaped and sustained by the emotions left behind by those who have passed on."

Danny raised an eyebrow. "A container?"

"Yes," Frostbite said, clasping his hands behind his back as they walked. "Every strong emotion—grief, anger, regret, fear—leaves an imprint. When mortals die, those emotions do not simply vanish. They gather here, take form, and over time, they become what you know as ghosts."

Danny looked around more carefully now, noticing how the environment itself seemed to shift slightly, as if reacting to something unseen. "So… all of this," he gestured outward, "is built from that?"

"In a sense," Frostbite replied. "The Ghost Zone reflects what it contains. Areas like this, calm and still, are shaped by acceptance and quiet. But there are other regions…" He paused briefly. "Places where anger and hatred dominate. Those areas are far less stable."

Danny frowned a bit. "And when it started merging with the human world…"

"The barrier between the living and the dead began to collapse," Frostbite finished. "If that process had continued, those emotions would not have remained contained. They would have poured into your world unchecked."

Danny's expression grew more serious as he thought about it. "So it wasn't just ghosts crossing over… it was everything behind them too."

Frostbite nodded once. "Exactly. The living world is not meant to bear that weight all at once. Chaos would have followed. Your actions prevented that outcome."

Danny rubbed the back of his neck again, clearly unsure how to take that. "I was mostly just trying to stop things from getting worse…"

"And that is often enough," Frostbite said simply. "Intent does not lessen the impact of what you accomplished."

"Not to mention," Frostbite continued, his tone becoming slightly more serious, "when two things are merged, they rarely remain as they were. They combine into something else entirely. The Ghost Zone would have ceased being the Ghost Zone and instead become an entirely new reality."

"I see… I suppose that makes sense," Danny sighed, rubbing the back of his head as he tried to picture what that would have looked like.

"Now then," Frostbite went on, shifting the topic as he looked toward Danny curiously, "may I inquire what has brought you all the way to the land of the Far Frozen? I have my suspicions that the journey wasn't made by accident."

Danny held out his hands, and cold energy began to stream out from his palms, swirling faintly in the air. "I recently awakened my ice ability, and I figured it would be better for me if I had a mentor to teach me instead of trying to figure everything out on my own."

"A wise decision," Frostbite nodded in approval. "There is only so much one can learn alone. I would be more than happy to assist you in your journey of discovery and improvement. If you let me, of course."

He then gave Danny a small wink. "Think of it as a way of expressing our gratitude for your efforts."

"Now that's kind of embarrassing…" Danny muttered bashfully, looking off to the side, which caused Frostbite to laugh again.

After discussing the arrangements in greater detail and settling on a plan they were all comfortable with, Danny regrouped with the others. Everyone was bundled up in thick fur coats, each holding a cup of hot cocoa. The only one missing from their group was Wally.

"You get everything sorted?" Robin asked, tossing Danny a coat.

Danny caught it and immediately stared at them in surprised horror, his eyes widening as he looked between the coats and the drinks.

"What?" Robin asked, confused as he slowly took a sip of his cocoa.

"W-What are you doing?" Danny asked, clearly alarmed.

"Drinking cocoa?" Robin replied, now more confused than ever.

"Damn it! I forgot to warn you! You can't eat food from the Ghost Zone or you'll be forced to permanently live here!" Danny exclaimed passionately, putting on the performance of a lifetime as he pointed dramatically at the cup.

Robin didn't react the way Danny hoped. He just stared at him, expression flat, then casually lifted the cup and took a long, audible sip.

"You don't believe me, do you?" Danny asked, his voice dropping flat.

"You think I would've drunk this without checking first?" Robin scoffed. "Give me more credit, do you even know me at this point. You're going to need more than that to get me."

Danny snapped his fingers in frustration. "Darn it…" he muttered, which only made Robin chuckle.

Ember walked over, holding two cups. She handed one to Danny, who accepted it with a quick "thanks" before taking a small sip. He glanced around. "Where's KF?"

Robin simply pointed off into the distance.

Danny turned and narrowed his eyes. High up on a distant mountain, Wally stood at the top with a pair of skis, already moving.

"Woooooah!!!" Wally's voice echoed as he shot down the slope, his arms moving at super speed while a wild grin stretched across his face.

Danny's mouth twitched. "He really knows how to have fun everywhere, huh."

Robin chuckled, watching the blur of motion in the distance. "He wouldn't be KF if he didn't."

In the distance, Wally hit a small rise and launched into the air, spinning awkwardly before landing and continuing down without losing momentum. Snow sprayed behind him as he zigzagged across the slope far faster than anyone reasonably should.

Ember crossed her arms, raising an eyebrow. "He's going to crash."

"He's definitely going to crash," Danny agreed.

A second later, Wally wiped out spectacularly, disappearing into a burst of snow.

There was a brief pause.

"…Okay, yeah," Danny said.

A streak of red suddenly shot back up the mountain, and Wally reappeared at the top almost instantly, laughing like nothing had happened.
