Zoe's POV
The next morning didn't feel like a morning at all.
It felt like waking up after surviving a storm only to realize the storm hadn't ended at all.
For a while I just lay there beneath the covers, staring blankly at the ceiling above me.
The room was quiet.
Almost too quiet.
It felt depressing.
Even the sound of my movement echoed through the room.
Sunlight slipped through the curtains in thin golden lines, stretching across the floorboards and climbing slowly up the wall. Dust floated lazily inside the light like tiny particles suspended in time.
Everything looked normal. The same.
But me. I was feeling completely out of place.
My eyes burned. Hurting from all the tears I cried that night.
My head felt heavy.
My body felt like someone had filled my bones with wet sand overnight.
Getting out of bed felt like a job that I wasn't even close to taking on.
But then my phone buzzed again beside me.
