Alexander and the others started questioning the parents about whether they had recently met someone whom they had invited to their homes.
They all answered the same thing: they had, but the memory was hazy. Some remembered offering the visitor a drink.
Others remembered showing him into the sitting room. Yet whenever Alexander asked what the person looked like, they struggled to answer.
Hektor listened to each account with a deepening frown. "Did any of you know this person before inviting him inside?"
Lily's mother pressed her hands together. "I thought I did."
"You thought you knew him?"
"Yes, we met him outside and spoke to him a few times, I think. After some time, he wanted to talk in our house, so we invited him in."
"Where did you meet him?" Alexander asked.
"At the market, I think. Lily was with me." Her mother frowned as she tried to remember. "He spoke to us while we were waiting outside a shop."
"What did he want?"
