Maxwell's POV
I'd been standing in Alex's office for more than ten minutes, and in that time I'd catalogued everything wrong with it: the cheap art on the walls, the outdated monitor setup, the framed diplomas that meant nothing next to his actual talent. Harry & Associates didn't deserve Alex Gregory. It never had.
"I still can't believe you're actually here," Alex said, leaning back in his chair with that easy grin that had gotten him out of trouble since our college days. "Took you what, three years of begging on my part?"
"I wouldn't call it begging," I said, running a finger along the edge of a bookshelf and inspecting it for dust. "I'd call it waiting for you to come to your senses and quit this place."
"Here we go again. Did you actually come to see me, or did you come to recruit me again?"
"Can't it be both?"
"No."
