~Aaron's POV
I reached for my phone, almost dropping it before I finally unlocked it and dialed her number. I pressed the phone to my ear, my heart pounding like I already knew what was coming.
The call didn't go through.
I frowned, pulled the phone away, and tried again. And again.
Still nothing.
A broken sound escaped me, something between a laugh and a sob, and before I could stop it, tears blurred my vision. I wiped at them angrily, but they just kept coming, hot and relentless.
"Pick up… please just pick up," I whispered, even though the line was already dead.
I threw the phone onto the passenger seat and pressed harder on the accelerator. The car surged forward, engine roaring as the streetlights streaked past me in a blur.
I didn't care.
I just needed to get to her.
I don't even remember how long I kept driving.
