Chapter 45 - Journey to the West (2): Life and Death

Sunny was dancing; no, calling it dancing was an insult to all dancers in the world.

He wasn't dancing... Faraam, in all of his intelligence and wickedness, felt like he was standing in front of an unholy creature doing a ritual. No, seriously, when he saw Sunny dancing, he felt himself getting corrupted!

Sunny was moving with either mechanical stiffness or unnatural smoothness, nothing in between!

Faraam wasn't a dancer himself, but what he saw was clearly a crime against the world!

Even though just watching Sunny "dance" made him want to bleach his eyes, he didn't order Sunny to stop.

Oh, right, Faraam was the one who ordered Sunny to dance. Why? Well, Faraam, a few hours ago, was in a near-death state. He felt his body losing all vitality, his vital system stopping working, and his mind going blank.

If he hadn't ordered Sunny to remove the [Weaver's Mask] the moment he started losing consciousness, he would be dead!

[Weaver's Mask] did indeed reverse his flaw, but it did in such a malicious way.

His flaw [Death's Breath] description was like this:

[Every time you become stronger, you draw closer to death.]

So what did [Weaver's Mask] do? Well, it reversed his flaw.

[Every time you become stronger, you draw away from death.]

So does that mean that each time Faraam becomes stronger, he draws close to life?

No. Because when Faraam draws away from death, he draws away from life too.

"Fucking philosophy..." he muttered.

Death is the end of life. Shadow God created death in the first place to take away the life of the void creatures, so if there was no life, death wouldn't exist... the same thing with life.

If death didn't exist, life wouldn't exist either, because life would lose its meaning and wouldn't be life anymore.

It was really complex, but the gist of it is that life and death are two sides of the same coin; they can't exist without the other.

So when Faraam wore [Weaver's Mask], he didn't just draw away from death; he drew away from life too.

So what happened to him exactly... if Faraam had to guess, it would be that he started ceasing to exist, turning into nothing.

Faraam sighed; it was too much for him. He really hated philosophy.

He looked back at Sunny, who was still screaming insults after insults while dancing.

Why was he dancing?

... Faraam was venting his anger on Sunny.

Yeah, there wasn't any great reason; he was just pissed off.

"Okay, stop. You are burning my eyes with... whatever you are doing."

Sunny stopped and glared at Faraam with a gaze that could kill a man millions of times.

"Here, take back your memories." Faraam extended his hand.

Sunny took it, and Faraam transferred it to him while taking a few of them for himself. Two exactly the first was a broken memory called [M… Un…old], and just like its name and state, its runes too were broken. The second was by far the greatest memory in the world. [Endless Spring].

The [Endless Spring] runes that Sunny saw were like this:

Memory Rank: Dormant.

Memory Tier: IV.

Memory Type: Tool.

Memory Description: [A lovesick devil had once imprisoned a mighty river in this fragile glass bottle. It was his gift to a beautiful desert spirit.]

Memory Enchantments: [Gift of Water], [Blessing of Flesh].

Enchantment Description: [This bottle contains enough water to make flowers bloom in the desolate heart of the most lifeless of deserts].

[Blessing of Flesh]

Enchantment Description: [This memory enhances one's ability to endure and recover from physical fatigue.]

Yes, Sunny, thanks to Weaver Lineage—as he said—was able to see more information about memories, echoes, and other things related to the spell.

Faraam wasn't surprised anymore; at this point he just accepted.

If someone told him that this emo slave was a protagonist of a media, he would believe them.

Suddenly a thought came to his mind.

'If Sunny were the protagonist, then... does that mean Changing Star would be the heroine? Gods, those fuckers will take thousands of chapters just to hold hands!'

"Hmm? What are you doing?"

Sunny was still holding his hand.

"Give me back all of my memories."

Faraam smiled. "Buddy, it's our memories. Now go do something else, and stop bothering me."

Sunny cursed Faraam for the thousand time, but he followed what Faraam ordered him to do without a choice and sat away from Faraam on the echo's back, which was heading to the Dark City.

With the speed they were going, it should take around a day to reach there.

Faraam summoned the [M… Un…old], and the moment he did, it fell down on the echo's back, causing the echo to sway a little.

"Gods, the armor is way too heavy."

The suit of ancient plate armor was jet black in color. Its design was intricate and solemn, radiating a feeling of dark resolve and stalwart, adamantine grace. Its glossy surface seemed to absorb and devour any light that fell on it. All parts of the armor were perfectly fitted to one another, creating an almost seamless barrier of impenetrable steel.

Well… not steel, yet. Stone.

"Now to fix this memory..."

Fixing it was rather simple, really; he just has to pour essence in the armor to let it fix itself, but being simple doesn't mean it is easy, since he would need a great level of essence control.

That is what Faraam lacked, unfortunately, but it didn't matter. With Caela's knowledge, it wouldn't take long to fix it.

"Alright, let us do this."

In the other world, the news of what had transpired in the Forgotten Shore and the Crimson Spire has become public information.

The tragedy of the Crimson Spire—as it was named—was nothing but a disaster. A fellow human, not a nightmare creature, has murdered his fellow sleepers in cold blood.

His name and face were broadcasted everywhere; Faraam, Ghost, had become an enemy of humanity!

Changing Star swore in front of millions in a live broadcast to hunt that coward who ran away from her and bring him to justice! She announced that she would join the Valor clan, as the great clan swore to hunt him too and search both worlds for him.

Inside the main headquarters of the Song clan, Seishan watched the news.

"I knew he was crazy, but not this extant... idiot. If you wanted Song's protection, you shouldn't have done that. Now you are all alone, hunted by all humanity."

She then glanced at the file in her hand and chuckled.

"I don't know if you were lucky or not... you did everything to escape the Forgotten Shore to survive, yet even after this show you still failed. But I guess failure was the thing that saved you from the death you fear."
