Chapter 47 - Journey to the West (4): Hail Weaver

Raising his hand, Faraam poured essence into his right arm and punched the Fallen Beast's head.

Using his new armor ability, he increased his weight three-fold. This action generated more force; mixed with his steel-like armor and his echo, the Fallen Beast skull exploded like a melon.

With the spell confirming it's death, he moved to the other Fallen Beast.

In front of his eyes, strings of red and blue connected Faraam and the beast.

If Faraam has to guess what these strings are, they would probably be the intent of the beast and his.

The red strings were where the beast intended to attack, and the blue ones are where he intended to attack.

As the beast moved, one of the red strings rippled. When he saw that, Faraam dodged and summoned a golden spear in his right hand, then stabbed the beast's chest.

In his left hand he summoned a small hammer and struck the beast's jaw, dismantling its face completely.

The spell again whispered of its death.

Faraam melted the spear and hammer back to his armor and sighed.

'That should be enough for the journey.'

Faraam summoned the [Ruined Chest], a memory he bought long ago in the auction in the Bright Castle.

He opened the chest and stored the dead bodies of the two nightmare creatures.

Dismissing the chest, he walked back to their base, his and Sunless.

Well, it belonged to Sunny back then, when he wandered the Dark City alone.

Reaching the Ruined Cathedral, he walked inside, and waiting for him was Sunny.

"You took your time," Sunny said.

"I was hunting some Fallen Beasts—nothing much. You know since I'm an Awakened now."

"Sure, with the help of my shadows."

Faraam shrugged his shoulders as he dismissed his echo. The Mantle of the Underworld became black once again. He then removed the helmet that covered his head.

A flowing wavy black hair was set free, covering his back.

"Are you still going to remain in that form?"

"Why should I go back, though? Thanks to this form, I can use aspect abilities that actually help in combat."

Sunny clicked his teeth.

Faraam walked past him and sat on a destroyed pillar.

"Anyway, we have gathered enough supplies to keep us not hungry the whole journey. We will leave tomorrow. If you have something to do here, today is the last chance. I doubt you will come back here."

With that said, he stood up and left Sunny alone going down to the basement of the cathedral.

In the past week, they had been hunting the remaining nightmare creatures that hid from the deathly sun light.

Though many died, there was enough to hunt for their journey.

While hunting them, Faraam has experimented on his armor and aspect abilities.

He had judged his aspect far too harshly.

When he killed Caela in the academy, she was a mere sleeper. She has two abilities; one was her innate ability that gave her strong protection against mind attacks. As for her dormant aspect ability, it had allowed her to see the intent of a person. Which is why Faraam attacked her from behind back then.

But Faraam was able to use a third ability... her awakened ability, which allowed her to cut those strings of intent—red or blue—and make her opponent lose interest in attacking her or her attacking her opponent.

It was right in front of him all the time; his aspect description said it to his face.

[Those who you devour will become part of you.]

Caela was part of him, so when he awakened, she awakened too. Which allowed him to use her awakened ability.

Which means if he devoured a divine aspect user, like Changing Star, he would be able to use all their abilities.

This discovery opened many paths to him.

'If a supreme aspect is this strong, then how will a divine aspect be?'

Remembering Chaning Star again, and her destructive flames... Faraam sighed, because he remembered her flaw.

Because his aspect ability included those he devoured flaws, like Caela's flaw, that made her not feel any sexual desire at all.

As for how Faraam figured it out... well, he tried to masturbate many times but didn't feel anything at all.

Reaching the end of the secret passage Faraam opened the black door.

Behind the door, a small room was carved into the rock.

And in it, a corpse in a dark mantle was chained to the floor inside a circle.

The corpse was kneeling on the floor of the small cell, its hands chained to the floor. There was a circle carved into the stone around it, with countless symbols that Faraam recognized.

However, the circle was broken. In the thousands of years since the fall of the Dark City, the floor of the dungeon cell had cracked, with several fractures running straight through the intricate engraving.

Whatever it was the circle was meant to contain had either perished or escaped a long time ago.

Now, the only thing that remained was a withered corpse.

Looking at the runes, Faraam felt a splitting headache and a sickening, terrible sensation spreading through his mind. Even though Faraam endured this kind of pain, it was nothing compared to the feeling of losing oneself.

Even though the spell refused to translate what was written, with his—Caela's—knowledge of the Runic language, he was able to understand them. So Faraam read, and he read until he couldn't.

[Thus spoke Weaver

"They will open the Gates"

And they did

Calling forth doom and destruction upon us

Now, in the ruins

Gods lay dead

And the daemons have fallen

T̷̸̵̴h̶̷̸̵e̸̶̴̷ F̷̴̵̸o̸̷̶̴r̵̸̷̶g̶̴̸̷o̷̸̵̶t̸̴̷̵t̶̸̴̷e̵̷̸̴n̷̶̴̸ O̸̵̷̶n̶̷̴̸e̴̸̶̷ comes

Wide awake

To consume them].

The moment he tried to read these words, he felt like his head was splitting into two or someone was beating his head with a hammer a hundred times.

Faraam didn't even try to read it again; his life was far more valuable than a name.

'What gates were opened, and who are "they"?'

What Weaver said did come to happen. The doom war began; the gods and daemons died. That was history.

'But what or who was awakened? Weaver clearly meant that "it" has awakened and consumed the gods and daemons... or has it?'

Faraam didn't know. If that thing that consumed the literal gods awakened, then doesn't that mean the world would be destroyed long ago?

"Agh, this is too much."

His headache only grew worse the more he thought about it.

So he stopped; since, no matter how much he squeezed his brain, he wouldn't figure it out.

Sighing, he looked at the last runes, written in a different language. This time he didn't feel as much pain as the runes before.

Scratched into the stone was a short prayer:

"Hail Weaver

Demon of Fate

Firstborn

of the -unknown-"
