The heavy mahogany doors of her office suddenly slid open.
Arthur Pendelton did not knock. He didn't casually stroll in with a stack of tax documents or a sarcastic remark about his salary. The middle-aged secretary walked into the room moving with a rigid, deeply unsettled stiffness. He wasn't terrified, but his face was pale, and his brow was deeply furrowed in absolute confusion.
Kaya's victorious smirk vanished instantly. Her tactical mind snapped to attention.
"Arthur?" Kaya asked, sitting up straight and placing her espresso cup on the desk. "What's wrong? Did the SEC freeze our accounts?"
"No, Boss," Arthur said, his voice unusually tight. He walked over to her desk and placed a highly encrypted Vanguard security tablet flat on the mahogany surface. "I was reviewing the perimeter logs for the automated warehouse district on the edge of the city. One of our high-speed thermal cameras was triggered last night. It was damaged immediately after it took this snapshot."
