Dai Chengfeng nodded in understanding. Qian Renxue was undergoing the Angel God's trials—a matter of continental significance that couldn't afford even a single misstep. Keeping their relationship hidden was protection for her.
"Second," Qian Daoliu continued, "you've sworn to prove your worthiness to stand beside Xue'er. I'll give you five years. Within that time, if you break through to Soul Douluo and lead your team to a continent-shaking victory in the Continental Advanced Soul Master Academy Elite Tournament, I'll formally approve your marriage—and even personally officiate it."
Five years… to Soul Douluo? And dominate the tournament?!
The demand was brutal. Most soul masters spent decades struggling from Soul King to Soul Douluo. Even with Dai Chengfeng's genius, leaping past Soul Emperor and Soul Saint to Soul Douluo in five years seemed impossible. And the tournament? The pinnacle of youth competition—crowded with prodigies. To achieve "continent-shaking glory" meant nothing less than crushing the field for the championship.
Yet Dai Chengfeng didn't hesitate. "I accept. In five years, I'll fulfill this vow and marry Xue'er in grand style!"
His eyes held no fear—only unwavering resolve. As a reincarnator, he possessed dual martial spirits (his second still hidden), immortal herb-forged talent, and fragmented memories of future opportunities. Five years to Soul Douluo? Daunting—but possible. And the tournament championship? It was already his goal!
Seeing Dai Chengfeng so readily accept the near-impossible, Qian Daoliu's eyes flickered with faint approval. Cowards were unworthy of Xue'er; blind arrogance was foolishness. But Dai Chengfeng's gaze showed clear-eyed courage—that rare spirit impressed him.
"Third," Qian Daoliu added, "until you gain sufficient strength—and until Xue'er completes her divine trial—you must exercise restraint. Don't let passion distract from your duties… or create… complications. Understand?"
The euphemism hung heavy. Dai Chengfeng's cheeks flushed—he knew exactly what "complications" meant. Unwed pregnancy would devastate Qian Renxue's reputation and divine trial. He bowed solemnly. "I understand. Her future comes first."
"Good." Qian Daoliu sipped his cooled tea, sealing the discussion. "Remember your oath. Go—Xue'er's waiting."
"Yes, I'll take my leave." Dai Chengfeng bowed and exited.
No sooner had he stepped from the pavilion than a fragrant figure crashed into his arms.
"You fool… who told you to make such a vow…" Qian Renxue's muffled sobs soaked his robe.
Dai Chengfeng cradled her, stroking her hair. "Had to go big to melt your grandfather's stone heart. See? We passed."
"Don't call him stone-hearted!" She glared through tears, heartache and relief warring in her eyes. "Five years to Soul Douluo? Do you know how hard that is? And the tournament crown… Why agree to such harsh terms? We could've waited—Grandfather would've—"
"How long is 'someday'? I won't wait." He wiped her tears, voice tender yet firm. "Five years will fly by. Trust me—I'll make the continent see the man you chose is worthy. That I deserve to stand beside you, sharing your glory."
Qian Renxue gazed into his blazing eyes, warmth and faith flooding her chest. She nodded fiercely. "I believe you."
They held each other until calm returned.
"By the way—what did Grandfather say at the end?" she asked, having caught only fragments like "restraint" and "complications."
Dai Chengfeng coughed awkwardly. "Nothing much. Just… uh… reminded us to mind our health and not neglect training."
Qian Renxue's sharp mind connected the dots—her face flamed crimson. She punched his arm, flustered. "It's all your fault!"
"Yes, yes—all me." He laughed, taking her hand. "Walk me out? And show me Spirit City? After all this time, I haven't properly seen this holy city of soul masters."
"Mm." She linked arms with him, sunshine brightening her smile. Days of anxiety melted away, leaving only sweetness and hope.
Side by side, they strolled toward the palace gates. Sunlight stretched their shadows long—a path of promise unfolding before them.
Behind them, at the pavilion window, Qian Daoliu stood watching their retreating figures. His eyes held worry, pride, hope—finally softening into a sigh.
"Xue'er, you've chosen your path. May it be right. Dai Chengfeng… don't fail me. And never… betray Xue'er."
