Chapter 18 - Rumor

The next 3 periods are magic class.

The teacher for that subject is a rather petite girl with long, shiny blonde hair tied into two braids.

"Hello everyone, I'm Lucy, the magic teacher. Nice to meet you all!"

Seeing Lucy, everyone looked at each other and whispered.

"A kid?"

"She looks the same age as us, probably from some other class."

"She must have come to the wrong classroom, poor thing."

"She looks even younger than my little sister."

"HEY! YOU GUYS KNOW I CAN HEAR YOU RIGHT?!" Lucy shouted, looking angry.

'Ah, the easy-to-anger, tsundere loli type,' everyone immediately thought upon seeing Lucy's actions and words.

"You should know that I am already 46 years old. In fact, I could even be considered older than some of your parents!"

46 years old?

Seeing the students' stunned looks after hearing her age, she smirked, lifted her chin, and smiled.

That's right, learn to respect your elders!

"46 years old? Isn't she basically an old lady?"

"She's really 10 years older than my mom."

"Uh, and I thought she came to the wrong class. Turns out she's an old lady in a child's body."

"She could easily be my little sister's grandma."

...it got even worse after she revealed her age. Poor thing.

Lucy, who was originally smug, now had a twisted face after hearing the students no longer show her any respect.

Joking, 46 years old and you call that old? This age is still young! Young enough that I could be your mother's daughter!!! (You should think about what you should say...)

"46 years old... So... You're no different from an old lady!" Tryo counted on his fingers and said loudly across the class.

...doesn't this guy know how to speak quietly? Do you really want to die? Even Lucas wouldn't be this reckless.

"AGHHHHHHHH!!!!" Lucy screamed, rushing toward Tryo like a tiger.

"Wait- don't, teacher, I'm sorry- AGHHHHHH!!"

Tryo was bitten on the head by Lucy and screamed in pain.

Whoa, the teacher is hitting a student right on the first meeting? Average Asian teacher?

"UOHH!!! 18 POWERFUL PUNCHES!!"

Lucy punched Tryo repeatedly, causing him to fall to the floor with a thud.

"Stop! He already dead!!"

"GOO! BEAT HIM TO DEATH!"

Who just said that last line?

"Hmph, I'll let you off this time. I'm currently at the prime of my life, not an old lady or a child. Do you hear me clearly?"

"..."

"EVERYONE!!"

"YES, CLEARLY!!!"

She really is a strong woman. I should avoid saying anything about her to ensure my survival.

"Ahem, let me repeat. I am Lucy, the magic teacher. I was also a former student in the Solomon class, so I am your senior."

"I am not too strict about rules or anything. As long as you don't go beyond my tolerance level, I'm fine with everything."

"Except when you talk about my height," her eyes scanned us sharply.

That scary?

"Alright, shall we start the lesson now?"

"Yes," everyone said together, except for Tryo who was lying flat on the floor.

And so Lucy began teaching.

As mentioned, magic is the origin and the reason humans have developed to this point.

Even if alchemy rises to prominence, it cannot be denied that magic is indispensable in life due to its versatility.

Even as time passes, magic still holds a position that is hard to replace.

Lucy mostly taught theory first. After all, to use magic effectively, you need to understand its true nature.

Of course, using magic is also very closely related to the element one possesses.

For example, I obviously use ice, so when using magic of a different element like fire, it will definitely be very weak or even impossible to use.

As for magic related to one's own element, it is clearly very strong.

Therefore, a person who can use many different elemental magics is usually because they have trained to mastery level, or they are a Great Sage.

Yeah, Principal Mirlen is a Great Sage who has mastered all 18 elements.

"Do you understand? Mastering magic is not something you can do in a day or two like monster cards. Sometimes you will be forced to use magic to defend yourself if something goes wrong with your monster cards."

Lucy lightly tapped the wooden ruler on the board to get the class's attention.

"Hm hm," Lucas nodded, his eyes very serious.

"Do you understand something that you're nodding for, Lucas?" Lucy smiled at Lucas.

"Hm hm, I don't understand anything, teacher. Just ignore me- UHAH!" The wooden ruler flew straight into Lucas's forehead, knocking him down.

"You guys really know how to annoy me! It's only the first day teaching you and you're already this good. I don't know what the Beowulf class is like!"

Hey hey, I don't allow you to insult the Beowulf class. They're all gym bros.

"Teacher!" Alice raised her hand.

"What is it?" Lucy said impatiently.

"Is there magic like... creating a candy kingdom that you can eat forever without running out?"

...

The whole class slowly turned to look at Alice, making her feel a bit embarrassed.

What? I just wanted to ask a question? Why is everyone looking at me like I came from another planet?

"...Alice," Lucy covered her face.

"Y-Yes?!"

"Just... just keep being innocent like that. No one will judge you..." Lucy's tears kept falling even though her hand was covering her eyes.

Everyone also shook their heads, as if they were sharing in the sympathy for Alice.

"What???" Alice was extremely confused by how everyone was treating her.

Poor thing. She is so naive that she believes magic can create food.

Magic cannot create things that are edible to swallow. So even if there is magic to create a candy kingdom, humans probably couldn't eat it.

Perhaps the only thing used for food is water magic. Unfortunately, it's pure water without minerals, so it's not good for long-term use.

But using that water for cooking is quite good.

Ding dong ding dong.

"Oh, it's already been 3 periods. So fast," Lucy scratched her head.

"Alright then, I'll assign homework. You all have to finish it and submit it to me!"

"Did you hear?!" She stood by the door to remind them.

"Did you hear clearly?!" She stood in the middle of the door to remind them.

"Did you hear clearly clearly clearly?!" She stood behind the door, poking her face out to point at us one last time before leaving.

'...this lady is exactly like a child,' everyone secretly thought.

Everyone then started leaving the classroom. After that, I pulled Felia out from me.

"Wu?"

"How do you feel?"

"Wu??"

What do you mean? Feel how?

"Like before and after evolution."

"Wu! Wuuu... Wuwu~"

I don't quite understand Felia's meaning, but it seems she feels there's a bit of a difference.

Good. If Felia already has this level of awareness, then having her help will definitely make things not difficult.

She can even do complicated things!

"Alright, I should create some more evolution cards. If the card I hold has (I), it means there will be (II). That way the evolution potential will be infinite.

Even according to the logic of this world, I can create other more special evolution cards.

That means if I want, it could be like Digimon with many different evolution branches!"

"Hey, have you heard the news?" A student my age was walking with someone else.

"What news?"

"At the old dormitory building, they say strange ghostly sounds keep coming out."

"Hmph, if you think I'm scared just because of some silly rumors, you're very wrong!"

"Then why is the back of your pants brown?"

"I held it in earlier."

I looked at the two people who just passed by and started thinking.

Yesterday I also heard some seniors talking about it. When did that become famous?

So I went over to talk to them.

"The old dormitory? Yeah, anyone who walks by that place hears strange sounds. Everyone hears different sounds, so it's quite confusing whether it's a person or something else. Anyway, Halloween isn't until October 31st, and today is only September 9th."

"Stop talking, I'm about to shit out something worse than a snake."

"GO TO THE TOILET RIGHT NOW, WHY ARE YOU STILL STANDING HERE?!"

Hearing that, I realized what it was.

Damn, isn't this the typical Mystery event common in school genres?

I've watched quite a lot of slice-of-life anime with school elements to know about this.

Well, if lucky, it's like the funny ones. If unlucky, it turns into a psychological horror genre.

The common motif is that the main character group sneaks in at night, and then a bunch of situations appear from nowhere.

And I'm not the main character like Aelith, so I'll go right now.

Going in at night, what if it turns into Corpse Party?

...No, Corpse Party would be too bad. If it's real, I'd definitely die.

"Wuuuu!!!"

Seeing Felia scared out of her wits like that, I immediately had an idea.

...that place is pretty great for testing the Ice Evolution card.

Although there's a high chance the principal will know about it, I believe he's good enough not to tell anyone... If that old man isn't the talkative type.

Ugh... Thinking about it again makes me not want to use evolution. That principal is also the sly old fox type... Well, if the situation forces it, there's no choice.

After that, I left the teaching building and headed straight to the old dormitory location.

On the way, I also asked people around, especially some older ones, to understand more about the old dormitory.

Hey, it's true that I have knowledge about this game, but that doesn't mean the game tells me everything. The old dormitory is indeed mentioned, but I was never able to enter it while controlling the main character.

After asking persistently, I learned that it was the first dormitory built after the academy was founded 200 years ago when monster cards appeared.

Of course, because the alliance's economy was very bad at that time due to the war with the Demon King's army from 700 years ago, creating a flying island that could continuously avoid all dangers was already very good. So it was unavoidable that the academy's buildings back then were very poor.

The old dormitory is a typical example, built from wood, no soundproofing, lacking necessary furniture, lacking food, lacking everything.

Even bathing had to be done together to save resources (of course boys with boys, girls with girls).

Well, in return, everyone became close very easily because there was almost no privacy. Students from other classes could sleep in the same room, and even in summer, they would all take off their shirts and go out to the balcony with straw pillows to sleep together. When it rained heavily, they would go out to shower in the rain, not caring about academy rules at all.

Romance back then was even funnier. Once in love, they stuck together extremely tightly, super cheesy, always going together, thinking about each other, or even secretly sleeping together (not doing adult things, don't worry). Of course, if teachers caught them, both would have to stand by the flagpole for a whole day as punishment.

It must be said that back then they had strong willpower and were hardworking to graduate, and after graduating they went out to fight the Demon King's army.

Therefore, when peace came and the academy had better finances, it was no surprise they built a new dormitory with more amenities and benefits. But contact between people decreased significantly when privacy was prioritized.

'Okay, back then it sounded exactly like my university days. Bathing together to compare sizes, at night the whole group would go to the balcony hugging each other doing gay stuff as a joke until the girls looked and got grossed out... Thinking about it now, that's why I'm still single.'

Anyway, back to the main issue.

After building the new dormitory and abandoning the old one, some people wanted to demolish it, but the principal refused because it contained many beautiful memories from the early days of establishment, even though the war was terrible at the time.

And so the old wooden dormitory, old and covered in moss, has remained there.

As for the sounds coming from inside, several theories have been proposed, but they all generally point to one thing.

'There was once a male student who died there for unknown reasons. On his desk were many very hard-to-read writings. It is known that before he died, he had some very strange behaviors like talking to himself, suddenly getting angry, or even sleeping while standing.'

A typical horror rumor story.

As for me, I don't believe in these horror things, because this world has the ghost types and monsters related to death like zombies, spirits, etc.

And as a matter of course, if things like ghosts and monsters exist and happen frequently, then horror mysteries won't be scary anymore, because people have seen them enough times.

Unless it's an extremely bad case like Cosmic Horror, in which case just pray that some kind god is willing to protect you.

"Here it is."

Looking at the heavily dilapidated, abandoned old dormitory that gave off an eerie, ominous atmosphere.

And yeah, I already heard sounds from inside before I even got close.

Creak... Clack clack clack... Creak.

...what the hell is that sound? It sounds like an old engine running?

"Wu!!!!" Felia looked like she was about to cry as she heard the sound, continuously pulling me to get out of there immediately.

"You're a monster, what are you scared of?"

"Wuuuu!!"

The sound came again, this time completely different from before.

RIIIIIITTTTT

"KYAAAAA!!!"

I jumped in surprise while Felia was so scared she wanted to crawl into my card.

I then looked toward the bushes and saw someone sitting nearby, shaking violently.

Shiny golden hair, wearing academy uniform, petite figure.

No mistaking it, it's Alice.

She was also curious about the rumor and came here? And alone too. So brave.
