Chapter 828 - Chapter 6: Preparations and Wedding

"What are you OK with?" Dave asked as he walked back into their hotel room.

Hermione smiled at him. She was really glad to be with her parents, but she also hoped to slightly distract him, if only for a short while. "I'm glad to have finally found you, restored your memories and regained your love first. Then, we were talking about where we could live after graduating from Hogwarts. We have several options, as I'm sure Harry told you, but we have some time to decide. Then, I mentioned the possibility of adding another wife since Harry has to keep two lines going, if not more."

Dave almost fell on the nearest chair. "Another wife? Is that even legal?"

Hermione smiled, understanding his confusion just too well. "The law is different in Magical Britain due to some customs that may be outdated but are still held to. Harry is Lord Potter, of course, and as his wife, I'm going to bring him the Potter heir. But Harry is also Lord Black. If we want to keep that title going, he needs another wife to become Lady Black and bring him the Black heir or the lines will merge, or, even worse, the title may pass to somebody else, not as trustworthy, along with all the assets."

Dave took a deep breath. "Then, you agree, so it seems. May I understand you already have a candidate?"

Hermione smiled. Her Dad was just as smart as her Mum. "Yes, we have. She's the one who told us about our marriage and the need to consummate it. She told us that her parents and Harry's had signed a betrothal contract when both were only a few weeks old. We later got to know her better, and I now think it will turn out just fine."

Dave turned to Harry. "How do you feel about this?"

Harry felt very uncomfortable. "Until a few weeks back, even marrying one seemed like an impossible dream, since I never knew if I'd live to see another day. Then, when we were told we were married, it was like a dream come true. I loved Hermione for quite some time, although I wasn't sure if that was love or something else. Still, she was the only girl I could see as a constant in my life. The fact that I'm betrothed to Daphne… I wasn't sure how I felt about it, certainly not how to act. Hermione made me see that Daphne is a very nice girl and that they could both share my life, making us all happy."

He shrugged. "I still feel like all I need is Hermione, but if I must have one more, then Daphne should do just fine."

Jean thought she heard enough for the moment. "So, what are your plans now?"

Hermione answered. "We'd like a non-magical wedding for Harry and me, preferably before my pregnancy shows. Then, according to the contract, Harry needs to magically wed Daphne."

"How soon?" Jean asked.

Hermione shrugged. "Soon enough, on the 20th of August, a few days before returning to Hogwarts."

"Then, when are you going to have your wedding?"

Hermione smiled. "We couldn't set a date before finding you, could we?"

"Then, what if it took you much longer?" Dave asked.

"I would have waited a year. We could always say we had a small wedding while we lived in Australia, and the more elaborate wedding is mainly for family and friends and as a reconfirmation of our bond. It sounds quite romantic that way, doesn't it?"

Her parents chuckled, as did Harry. He hadn't really thought of all this, but now…

It suddenly occurred to him that he'd need to have two weddings even before resuming his studies. That made him sober up.

"With such a tight schedule, I think we should return home as soon as we can. When can you return?"

Dave checked some papers. "We need to return the rented car in Darwin in three days, and it takes about two days to go there. I could probably return it here, at some additional cost, but we need it to go to Darwin since we don't quite know how to use other means of transportation."

"We came here by train, but it also took quite long," Hermione said.

"Well, we can join you if you like," Harry said, "and then we can fly back together."

Dave frowned. "I'm not sure they have any room on the outgoing flights. They're usually fully booked months ahead."

Harry smiled. "Not the first-class seats. These are usually available on a moment's notice since quite few fly first class."

Dave looked stunned for a moment. "Well, in that case…"

..

By the time their flight landed, Daphne was waiting for them at Heathrow, looking very excited. "I missed you two so much! I'm glad it didn't take longer. Now, I need your advice about the wedding, you know…"

Hermione couldn't stop herself from saying, "And I need yours. My wedding will be in about two weeks in a muggle church, so we need to hurry. I also want you as my maid of honour."

Daphne stopped, letting her words penetrate, and then hugged her even tighter. "Oh! I'm so glad for you! And you will serve as my matron of honour, of course."

It took a bit longer for Daphne to notice the older couple. She blushed at her outburst, which was so unlike her normal behaviour. "Sorry. It looks like I've been carried away by my feelings."

Jean smiled. She could already see that the two girls were not rivals. They seemed to be good friends. After finishing the introductions, Jean wasn't surprised to see Harry walking between the two girls, hugging each with one arm, as unusual as it seemed.

"Can you all come and stay with my family for a few days? It can help with the preparations for the wedding… Well, two weddings. And my parents would also like to get to know you."

Dave was curious. "How did you know to wait for us now?"

Daphne seemed surprised. "Hermione told me. We all bought cellular phones before they left, and we kept in touch each day."

Dave frowned. "I thought that such devices couldn't work in magical places."

Daphne shook her head. "Diagon Alley is in the middle of London, surrounded by many businesses that use electricity and electronics. It couldn't stay hidden had this been true."

"Then why were we told otherwise?" he insisted.

"That's what Hogwarts teaches. Some previous headmaster thought that allowing electricity into Hogwarts would make the students appreciate the muggles too much, so he set a ward to discharge or damage any battery brought to the castle. That ward was destroyed after the war, as far as I know. It all works perfectly in other places, you should know."

"Just another example of the bigotry in the magical world," Hermione said sadly.

Daphne led them to a very elegant limousine. Once they were all comfortably sitting, she explained, "This is a magical limousine. It needs to drive like any normal car while in the dense traffic near the airport, but once we find an empty stretch of road, it can reach its destination in seconds."

Indeed, it took them about half an hour to get free of the traffic, but then – in less than a minute, they were already at the entrance road to the Greengrass Manor.

It took the two couples of parents surprisingly little time to bond as if they were old friends. Harry thought that the fact that both were getting ready to wed their daughters also played a part in it, especially since they both had a common groom – him.

"Astoria is currently visiting with some distant family in Sweden. She'll be back for my wedding," Daphne told them.

"Don't you think she might like to be present at my wedding too?" Hermione asked.

Daphne gave it some consideration. "I'm not sure. She'd not shown much interest in anything muggle, but she might be interested since we're going to be one family. I'll inform her and let her decide."

Hermione smiled. "Make sure to let her know we'd be glad if she comes but won't be offended if she doesn't."

..

The Grangers returned to their own home a week later. Although it wasn't as large and luxurious as the Manor, it was their home, and they enjoyed living there. Besides, it allowed easier access to the church, where the wedding would be held, and to the various shopping areas.

Daphne still came to visit each day, helping as needed, but mainly so she could feel involved. Well, she also had a dress made for her role in the wedding, and she helped Hermione with hers. When nude, a tiny baby bump could already be seen, but the wedding gown hid it very well. None of her gossiping neighbours and family would notice anything, they were sure.

Harry also visited Grimmauld Place a few times. Daphne joined him there, enjoying staying with him as much as she could without taking the final step. Harry found their Hogwarts letters there, as expected, along with some other letters.

"Ron said they won't attend the weddings. His parents feel it's too soon to take part in any celebration. Fred's death hit them very hard," he told Daphne.

"I suggest you tell them that you understand their feelings and you won't feel offended by their absence. Have Hermione sign it too. In a way, it's for the best. The way most Weasleys treat Slytherins, I feared they may upset quite a few of our guests," she said.

Harry nodded. "And Neville is glad for us, as expected. He also accepts the role of best man for both weddings, knowing that Ron can't."

She smiled. "I suggest you thank him and invite him to join you when shopping for your muggle wedding clothes. I'm not sure he has anything appropriate. Whom else did you invite to the church?"

Harry sighed. "Hermione insisted on inviting my relatives. I hope they will cause no trouble. I have no other muggle guests. I expect most of the DA to come: Dean, Seamus, Susan, Hannah, Luna, Parvati and Padma. Hermione made sure they knew the right clothing to wear if they came."

Daphne chuckled. "No need to state that for our wedding. Should we invite your relatives too?"

Harry shuddered at the thought. "Let's see how they behave. We can always call them by phone if we want, not that I expect to do that any time soon."

..

It was a nice sunny morning, although the forecast was for some heavy rains in the afternoon. The small local church was only half-full since Harry had almost nobody to invite, and Hermione's extended family wasn't large either. The young magical guests were all dressed appropriately, none looking out of place, not even Luna.

The Dursleys sat in the front row, where the groom's parents would normally sit. Petunia looked very excited. If one looked closely, she even had some moisture in her eyes. Vernon looked grumpy, as usual, and kept silent. Harry was sure that Vernon suspected that at least some of the guests were "freaks", as he called them, and dared not attract their attention. Dudley sat at his side, looking slimmer than ever, although not really slim, wearing a nice suit and looking happy and excited.

Behind them, as if to confirm Vernon's suspicions, sat Minerva McGonagall, looking like an elegant grandmother, if slightly out of fashion. Professor Slughorn was sitting at her side, rivalling Vernon in girth and looking quite happy. Neither Hagrid nor Flitwick were invited, to not attract the attention of muggles. They fully agreed with that.

The Greengrass family sat behind them. Astoria returned in time to attend the wedding, looking almost as excited as if she was the bride. All three were wearing high-quality clothes, suitable for the event.

The ceremony was as normal as any Anglican wedding ceremony, yet it was the most special event for Harry and Hermione. Both felt as if they could only see each other, and Harry thought she was so beautiful that he could barely breathe.

"…you may now kiss the bride," the vicar concluded. Harry barely heard anything else, but kissing his bond mate was something he would never decline. He kissed her tenderly and passionately, putting all his feelings into the kiss, and she kissed him back with just as much emotion. They had to part, eventually. The well-wishers lined up to shake a hand, kiss and congratulate.

The Dursleys were among the first. Aunt Petunia hugged Harry tightly as if to compensate for all the times she didn't. "I'm so glad for you! Your wife looks magnificent, and I already know how good a friend she's been since you first met. I wish you two long and happy life. I only wish Lily would have been here too."

Harry had no time to respond. Vernon was next. He no longer looked so big and intimidating. Harry was already about the same height. "Congratulations, Boy. I wish you happiness. You earned it."

He was followed by Dudley. "You look extremely happy, and I wish you to stay that happy, or more, for the rest of your life. Your wife is really beautiful. I wish to also become the close family we should have been from the start."

"Thank you, Dudley," Harry said, feeling touched.

"I left my mobile number along with my present. You may call me after you return from your honeymoon," Dudley managed to say before he was forced to make room for the next person.

The Dursleys were not as emotional with Hermione but she didn't feel any animosity from them, which was just as well.
