Chapter 2 - chapter two: unexpected encounter

The sun peeked gently over the horizon, casting golden streaks across the countryside as the train raced forward on its silver rails. Inside, the soft hum of chatter filled the passenger car. Arabella sat quietly by the window, her long lashes casting shadows on her cheeks. Her hands clutched the strap of her sling bag, her eyes fixed outside, but her thoughts were elsewhere.

She had chosen this route for a reason, far from the chaos she knew, far from the world that constantly tried to define her. This journey was supposed to be a fresh beginning, quiet and uneventful. But fate had something else in mind.

Just two seats ahead of her sat a teenager boy of her age in a navy blue designer coat, his present subtle yet impossible to ignore. He had an air of confidence, a golden wristwatch catching the morning light, and a sleek suitcase tucked neatly beside him. Everything about him screamed wealth. But arabella didn't spare him a second glance.

As the train rolled into a quiet, almost deserted station, the atmosphere changed. A few suspicious looking men climbed aboard, their eyes scanning the car like wolves hunting prey. Arabella noticed immediately. Her instinct sharpened. She had learned to read people fast, and something about something about the way they moved made her grip the edge of her seat.

The teenagerboy, clearly not used to danger, looked up from his phone, puzzled but unalarmed. Arabella muscles tensed.

Within minutes, the train moved again. The suspicious man had spilt up, one pretending to read newspaper, another pacing the aisle. Then it happened.

Everyone, don't move! One of them shouted, drawing out a switch blade. Another raised a metal pipe, threatening a middle-aged couple sitting by the back. Screams echoed in the car as passengers froze in terror.

Arabella heart pounded. She could feel the adrenaline rushing through her veins. The robbers began snatching wallets and phones, barking at everyone to stay down.

When one of them approached the rich looking boy, he hesitated. Give me your wallets and watch.

The boy stared, clearly off guard. Wait....

He barely finished before the robber raised the knife to his neck.

Arabella stood up.

Leave him alone, she said, her voice calm but firm.

The men turned to her, confused.

And who are you? One of them laughed. Another rich brat?

The one near the boy stepped closer to arabella. Sit down before you get hurt.

Wrong move

In one swift motion, arabella grabbed the arm with the knife, twisted it, and slammed her elbow into the robber jaw. He dropped instantly, groaning in pain.

The car gasped

The second man charged at her with a pipe swinging. She ducked, kicked his legs from under him, and delivered a punch to his gut that knocked the air out of him. A third tried to grab her from behind, but arabella slammed him into a pole and finished with a high kick that sent him sprawling.

It all happened fast, like a blur of energy and precision. The rest of the robber, shocked and injured, scrambled off the train when it stopped at the next emergency halt. Passengers broke into applause, some still catching their breath.

Arabella brushed her hair behind her ear, panting softly, her calm returning.

She turned to leave

Wait ! The boy called, breathless.

Arabella paused but didn't turn.

What's your name?

She looked at him over her shoulder, her eyes steady but unreadable.

I don't share my name with strangers, she said, and walked off the train before it fully stopped.

The boy watched her disappear into the crowd. For a moment ,he was frozen. His heart raced, not just from the robbery but from her. Her confidence, her grace, the way she fought like she'd done it a hundred times. She was unlike anyone he'd ever met.

He rushed after her, suitcase in one hand, his mind spinning with curiosity.

But by the time he got outside the station, she was gone.

No trace.

Just the lingering echo of a girl who saved him..... and vanished.

She's gone, he muttered, frustrated. Who is she?

Back inside the train, murmurs continued about the mysterious girl with fierce fists and a quiet presence. But to him, she was more than a story.

To him, she was unforgettable.

And he had a strange feeling.....

That they'd meet again.
