Chapter 81 - The Miracle of Love

When Love Meets Reality

Somewhere in the desert, towering sand dunes rose toward the sky, while elsewhere, deep slopes descended into the vast sea of sand. The vehicles racing across them created a breathtaking spectacle. Sometimes, a vehicle would reach the summit of a towering dune; at other times, it would slide down a soft slope at high speed. Sand thrown up by the tires rose into the air before scattering in every direction like golden grains, as though a restless wave of sand were engulfing the vehicle.

Ramish and Richer were enjoying this thrilling adventure as well. Their vehicle would race up a towering dune, only to descend with a series of jolts. Each time, a cloud of sand rose around them, obscuring the view outside for a few moments.

Then, suddenly, the vehicle began descending rapidly from a massive dune.

The violent jolt caused Richer to lose his balance, and he fell straight toward Ramish. Ramish already had one hand gripping the sturdy safety bar and the other braced against the seat in front of him, while also trying to keep Richer steady. But the sudden impact wrenched his hand away from the bar.

The next moment, Ramish's head struck the vehicle's door.

When the vehicle descended the slope and reached relatively level ground, Richer immediately steadied himself and helped Ramish sit upright.

"Ramish! Are you alright? Did you hurt yourself?"

The anxiety in his voice was unmistakable.

Running a hand over the back of his head, Ramish tried to reassure him.

"I'm absolutely fine, Richer. Don't worry."

But that answer was not enough for Richer. He immediately turned toward the driver.

"Is this how you drive? Can't you be a little more careful?"

The driver responded apologetically.

"I'm sorry, sir. This is the desert. Driving over the sand dunes requires this kind of maneuvering."

Richer replied angrily,

"I understand that, but that doesn't mean you should drive so fast that someone gets hurt. Please slow down and be more careful."

Ramish took his hand.

"Richer, I really am fine. Look, nothing has happened to me."

Richer looked at him. There was more concern than anger in his eyes, but instead of saying anything, he silently continued holding Ramish's hand.

A little while later, the driver brought the vehicle to a stop.

Richer immediately asked,

"What happened now?"

The driver pointed toward the desert stretching out before them.

"Sir, the main Desert Safari camp is about ten minutes away from here. If you wish, we can stop here for a while and enjoy the sunset. The view of the setting sun over the desert is especially beautiful at this time."

Richer replied indifferently,

"There's no need. Just take us straight to the main camp."

"Richer!"

Ramish gently squeezed his hand.

"We should stop for a while. I want us to watch the sunset together."

Richer looked at him. For a moment, irritation flickered in his eyes.

"Is that really necessary, Ramish?"

Ramish smiled.

"It is to me. Please, Richer."

Richer looked at him for a few moments before taking a deep breath.

"Alright."

The two stepped out of the vehicle.

The desert stretched endlessly before them. On the horizon, the sun was casting its final light across the land. Its golden rays rested upon the dunes as though the evening had adorned the entire desert with gentle hands. The colors of the sky were gradually changing. Golden light lingered in some places, a muted shade of orange glimmered in others, while a deeper blue spread slowly across the heavens.

Ramish took Richer's hand and led him a little farther away from the vehicle.

Then he released his hand and moved to stand behind him.

"Look, Richer," he said softly.

"Even a setting sun looks so beautiful in the desert, doesn't it?"

Richer's gaze remained fixed on the horizon. He watched the sun slowly descend behind the sand dunes.

At that very moment, Ramish stepped forward and wrapped his arms around him.

Richer startled.

"Ramish…!"

That was the only word that escaped his lips before his voice seemed to disappear altogether.

Ramish rested his face against Richer's shoulder. With both arms wrapped around him, he stood there, holding him close as he watched the setting sun.

For a few moments, they remained silent.

Then Ramish spoke in a low voice.

"Richer, whenever I watch the sunset, every moment I've spent with you comes rushing back before my eyes. It feels as though, despite the passage of time, those moments have remained somewhere inside me, untouched."

Richer asked quietly,

"Do you really remember moments we shared so long ago?"

Ramish tightened his arms around him slightly.

"I remember everything. Every scene, every word, every moment when you were with me. I might forget many things, Richer, but the memories connected to you will never grow old for me."

Richer took a deep breath.

He remained silent for a while, but then a serious note entered his voice.

"Ramish, I think it's time you left all these things behind and moved on."

Ramish's smile slowly faded.

Keeping his eyes on the sun, Richer continued,

"Your wife and children… they deserve your love and attention too. You're working here, far away from them, and sending money home to provide for their needs. But don't you think they need your presence as well?"

Ramish's arms loosened around him.

Without looking at him, Richer continued,

"Chasing a love that might not even have a destination… isn't that unfair to the other people who are part of your life?"

Every trace of happiness disappeared from Ramish's face.

He slowly released Richer from his embrace and moved to stand beside him.

"Richer, I've never run away from my responsibilities. I send money home to my family. I've never allowed them to go without anything they need."

There was pain in his voice, but he tried to keep himself composed.

Richer looked toward the sky, where the sunlight was fading even further.

"I'm not denying your efforts, Ramish. But sometimes, people need more than money. They need the presence of someone they love. Don't you think your wife and children deserve your time and attention too? And is it right to make so many people unhappy for the sake of one love?"

Ramish fell silent.

He had so much he could have said about his responsibilities, but Richer's question had touched a place in his heart where no easy answer existed.

After a few moments of silence, he asked, his lips trembling slightly,

"Does a married person have no right to fall in love, Richer?"

Richer looked at him.

His expression was serious.

"Before falling in love with someone else, a person should also think about their marriage, Ramish. If your wife loves you and expects you to remain faithful to her, then loving another person could break her trust."

His words struck Ramish's heart like a bolt of lightning.

He stared at Richer for a few moments before taking a step back.

"Marriage and love… are they always the same thing, Richer?"

For the first time, a bitter helplessness crept into his voice.

"It isn't necessary that a person will fall in love with the one they marry. Some relationships are bound by responsibilities, while some feelings emerge beyond a person's control."

Richer remained silent.

Ramish looked up at the sky. Most of the sun had disappeared beyond the horizon. Then he turned toward Richer once more.

In his eyes lay a question he had perhaps been suppressing within himself for a very long time.

"Then is the only reason you can't love me that I'm a married man?"

Richer looked at him.

For a moment, their eyes met.

Ramish's gaze held hope, fear, and an almost unbearable eagerness to hear an answer that might change the course of his entire life.

Richer's lips parted slightly, as though he wanted to say something.

But no words came out.

He quietly turned his gaze away and looked toward the setting sun.

Ramish fell silent too.

At that moment, the desert wind seemed colder than before.

The sun's final glow was fading from the horizon. In place of the golden light, deeper evening shadows began settling over the dunes.

Ramish felt as though the sun of love burning inside his heart was slowly sinking as well.

But what did Richer's silence mean?

Was he unable to love Ramish, or was he afraid of the consequences of accepting that love?

Perhaps, for the first time, Richer was beginning to reveal the fears within him before Ramish. Perhaps he wanted Ramish to understand a truth that even he could no longer bring himself to ignore.

But that evening, in the desert, one question remained unanswered.

Would Ramish's hope for love set along with the setting sun, or was there a feeling hidden behind Richer's silence that was still too afraid to find its way into words?
