Chapter 157 - CHAPTER 157

c157 Snorlax

"Gardevoir, use Rain Dance."

The water source problem still hadn't been resolved, and Chen Xiaoxiao couldn't possibly check every Pokémon suffering from thirst one by one to hand-feed them water.

For now, she could only have Gardevoir create rainfall to temporarily ease the situation of the nearby Pokémon.

Gardevoir gave a graceful nod, lifted an umbrella from the storage bracelet an item she had kept ever since Qin Yun had custom-prepared gear for the team and propped it above her head.

Her eyes glowed faintly as her body pulsed with a wave of psychic energy. Dark clouds began to gather unnaturally fast, the once-bright sky turning heavy and gray. Moments later, a steady rain poured down, soaking into the parched soil.

Seeing rain cascade from the sky, the Oddish hiding under the umbrella rushed out happily, spreading their leaves to absorb the life-giving droplets.

The little Grass-types' bodies glistened as they soaked in the rainfall, their wilted leaves perking up almost instantly.

"(Thanks!)" the Oddish chorused with joy, their voices echoing in Gardevoir's mind through telepathy.

Chen Xiaoxiao smiled softly. "It's nothing. I'll find a proper solution for the water source soon. For now, eat something to restore your strength."

From her bag, she took out several Grass-type energy cubes, infused with the same energy balance Qin Yun had researched earlier. The Oddish devoured them happily, their movements lively once again.

"Alright, Oddish, take care. We'll see each other again."

After teasing them for a short while, Chen Xiaoxiao waved goodbye and continued toward the origin of the water source.

Along the way, she encountered a troop of Mankey and a fiery Primeape. Their aggressive stance made it clear why no villager dared to approach this mountain. The Primeape leader's aura flared, it was already at quasi-Elite strength, no pushover for ordinary trainers.

Chen Xiaoxiao frowned. She didn't have time for distractions. "Ampharos, Thunderbolt!"

Her Ampharos burst from its Poké Ball, electricity surging across its sleek yellow body before it discharged a crackling bolt. The blast scattered the Mankey troop, and even the Primeape collapsed, twitching in defeat.

"(Xiaoxiao, I can sense the water source ahead. But… something is blocking it. A Pokémon, I think.)"

Gardevoir's telepathic voice carried a tinge of hesitation.

"A Pokémon? Blocking the water? Why would it do that?" Chen Xiaoxiao muttered in confusion.

"(It's… sleeping. Deeply. Using Rest.)"

"Rest?!" Chen Xiaoxiao nearly tripped. "You mean all this chaos is because some Pokémon decided to nap in the middle of a river?!"

She slapped her forehead in disbelief. "Of all the places to sleep… it had to choose here? Not worried about drowning?"

"Gardevoir, teleport us there. I need to see this."

Gardevoir nodded, and in an instant, the world blurred. They reappeared upstream, where the river was blocked.

The sound of rushing water filled her ears. When she turned her head, Chen Xiaoxiao almost burst out laughing and crying at the same time.

A colossal navy-blue Pokémon with a massive round body and white belly lay sprawled across the channel, snoring peacefully.

Snorlax.

Species: Snorlax

Gender: Male

Level: 59 (quasi-Elite peak)

Type: Normal

"Of course… it had to be you," Chen Xiaoxiao groaned. She had already guessed it, but seeing Snorlax's bulk sprawled right across the river's Y-shaped split confirmed her suspicion.

Snorlax had chosen the perfect spot lying exactly on the branch leading to the village below. The entire stream was blocked, forcing the water level to rise and overflow into the secondary branch, cutting off the villagers' supply.

"Snorlax, could you not have picked anywhere else?" Chen Xiaoxiao muttered. "If you were lying just a little higher, the water would've overflowed past you and kept flowing. But no you just had to plug the flow perfectly. And of course, when you wake up, you'll probably munch on all these thorn bushes and flop back into the river again."

She sighed. "Gardevoir, move him."

Gardevoir's eyes gleamed. In a flash of psychic power, Snorlax's massive body was lifted and teleported onto the riverbank. Instantly, the water burst forward through the freed channel, surging downstream to the village.

"Finally…" Chen Xiaoxiao exhaled in relief.

But her relief was short-lived. Snorlax continued snoring loudly, completely undisturbed.

Chen Xiaoxiao rubbed her temples. "If I leave him, he'll just come back after waking up hungry. And knowing Snorlax, he'll happily eat those thorn bushes and then plop down again. What a headache…"

She marched up to the giant and slapped its round belly. Thud, thud, thud!

"Snorlax! Wake up!"

But no matter how she shook or shouted, Snorlax remained as immovable as a mountain.

Chen Xiaoxiao paused, then noticed something odd, its belly felt slightly deflated. "Heh… hungry, aren't you?"

Her eyes narrowed thoughtfully. She reached into the system's exchange menu and purchased an Advanced Normal-type energy cube, carefully placing it near Snorlax's nose.

Snorlax's nostrils twitched. With a loud snuffle, it stirred, blinking drowsily.

"Perfect." Chen Xiaoxiao quickly pulled Gardevoir aside, teleporting a safe distance away.

Usually, a suddenly awakened Snorlax would rampage in annoyance. But food was a different matter.

Snorlax rose to its feet, its nose twitching wildly. It sniffed around, then locked eyes on the cube in Chen Xiaoxiao's hand. For once, its usually squinted eyes snapped wide open, shining with hunger. Saliva dripped down its chin as it lumbered toward her with surprising speed.

Chen Xiaoxiao couldn't help laughing. "Pfft! Look at you wide awake the moment food's involved."

Dodging with another Teleport, she reappeared behind Snorlax. "Want it?" she teased, waving the cube.

Snorlax skidded to a halt, turned clumsily, and nodded furiously.

"I'll give it to you, but only if you promise not to sleep in the river again, got it?" Chen Xiaoxiao pointed to the stream.

Snorlax nodded again without hesitation. Right now, for food, it would agree to anything.

"Alright then, here you go!"

She tossed the cube. Snorlax leapt forward with surprising agility, catching it in one bite. It chewed happily before swallowing whole, a blissful grin spreading across its face.

But almost immediately, its belly rumbled again. Snorlax licked its lips, glanced at the thorn bushes, then turned back to Chen Xiaoxiao with pleading eyes.

Chen Xiaoxiao groaned. "Nima, are you really this picky about food?"
