Chapter 159 - CHAPTER 162

Uchiha Gen had already confirmed earlier chapters that the Flying Thunder God marks placed on Zhu Rong and Wu Sheng were stable, so when he reached into his pouch and pulled out a real Flying Thunder God kunai, it gleamed with the same three-pronged shape Minato used in the Third Ninja War. The earlier kunai he threw were identical in shape but lacked the engraved hiraishin formula, so they could never trigger teleportation. He flicked his wrist and sent the real marked kunai downward.

Thunder from Zhu Rong's bombardment and Wu Sheng's sword-sparked lightning drowned out the sound of the kunai hitting the surface. Once underwater, the kunai activated the small soul fragment Gen had injected earlier, causing the arms and legs made of spiritual energy to sprout just as Kato Dan's Spirit Transformation Technique had done in the Second Ninja War. The kunai dragged itself forward slowly, hidden within the misty waters that constantly gathered in the Whirlpool Country air.

Fortunately, Kaguya Gang had stopped three meters from the bank to regulate chakra. His physical-type clan relied heavily on stamina and the Shikotsumyaku bloodline, which Konoha historically encountered during the Kaguya clan's final rampage against Kirigakure. Those records were in the Uchiha archive, and Gen had studied them carefully.

The kunai crawled toward him. At one and a half meters away, Gen activated Flying Thunder God. His body blurred away from the sky, and the golden flash appeared on the ground beside the kunai. With a flick of his sleeve, four serpents made of condensed Yin chakra shot forward. The serpents were modeled after what Orochimaru once used, but created through Gen's spiritual-style ninjutsu.

Kaguya Gang reacted instantly, just as the Kaguya clan had been described in Kirigakure's older battle reports: ferocious, instinctive, and frighteningly fast. His forearms ruptured open into twin bone blades like Kimimaro's Dance of the Camellia. He swung, but the serpents tangled mid-air, redirected their arcs using their own momentum, and sank fangs into his neck and waist.

Pain hit. He crushed one serpent's skull, and bone spurs erupted from his hips to stab the others, copying a lesser version of the Dance of the Larch. His killing intent flared.

"I'll drag you down with"

He made one fatal mistake: lifting his head.

The instant his eyes met Gen's Mangekyo Sharingan, a powerful genjutsu struck. His bone eruption technique froze mid-trigger. Gen pulled his soul free using the perfected Spirit Transformation method he had already used earlier in this arc.

He vanished back to Zhu Rong with Flying Thunder God. Because the thick clam-generated mist blocked normal vision and confused chakra perception similar to the Second Mizukage's mirage clam, the remaining four Mist shinobi didn't detect the kill.

Minutes of fire-and-thunder bombardment passed. When Gen sensed the brewing lightning inside the clouds, he activated his Mangekyo again and stared into the storm.

Thunder Release: Kirin required natural lightning. In canon, Sasuke used Amaterasu to generate heat that formed thunderclouds. Gen used Zhu Rong's firestorms and Wu Sheng's lightning surges to trigger the same atmospheric effect. The Mangekyo's superior perception allowed him to track the millisecond movements of lightning, something even elite jonin couldn't do.

He raised Wu Sheng. Lightning burst upward as Chidori-style control guided the natural thunder. The dark clouds churned. Lightning snaked across the heavens, twisting into living currents. The pressure was overwhelming, reminiscent of Sasuke's Kirin against Itachi.

The Mist jonin instantly felt danger. Terumi Yang's unease echoed how Mei Terumi once reacted to overwhelming chakra during the Fourth Ninja War. Shui Wuyuetang's cold-release technique reacted instinctively to the atmospheric shift.

They dispelled the giant clam's psychedelic mist, just as the Second Mizukage had once done when he dismissed his own mirage to avoid friendly casualties.

They now saw Gen, sword raised, Mangekyo blazing.

He warned them honestly. They didn't believe him. They assumed he was bluffing, trying to coax their trump cards.

So Gen stopped holding back.

Thunder surged. The sky turned white. A massive Kirin-shaped thunder-beast roared, its design matching the one Sasuke summoned against Itachi: dragon-like, divine-beast features, lightning horns, dark red eyes, and a body woven from the storm. Even the jonin veterans of the Bloody Mist era were shaken.

He yelled for them to defend. They finally took him seriously.

Each unleashed their strongest technique based on their clans and earlier chapters' lore: Ghost Lantern Bengyue used a hydration-amplified Water Iron Cannon on a massive scale; Terumi Yang used Melt Release unique to the Terumi patriarchal line before Mei; Shui Wuyuetang used Ice Release consistent with the Yuki clan techniques Haku displayed; Masayuki Hagoromo fused with his contract crocodile through a partial beast-human merging technique reminiscent of Kiba's Man-Beast Combination Transformation.

Their four ultimate attacks shot upward.

Gen exhaled. He finally triggered Kirin.

The sky fell.

Thunder slammed downward. A white dome of annihilation engulfed the battlefield. The shockwave tore pine trees apart. The water exploded into steam. Soil vitrified from heat. The blast pattern mimicked the destructive radius shown in Sasuke's fight.

When it was over, the four Mist jonin were alive but broken. Gen thanked every lucky star that their souls were intact so he could harvest them.

He descended with Zhu Rong. Rain began falling, the kind of cold drizzle typical of the Land of Water's climate.

He put Zhu Rong away, walked through the rain with Kusanagi in hand, and inspected the bodies. Two unconscious, two conscious. He honored their courage. He finished the conscious pair quickly through Sharingan hypnosis, the same painless method Itachi used on Izumi.

When his earth clone checked Shui Wuyuetang, she still had the instincts of the Yuki clan. She used her final chakra to form an ice spike, shattering the clone. Her last words were proud, like a shinobi of the Bloody Mist would be.

Gen caught her body and extracted soul and lifespan in the final heartbeat before true death, barely beating the world's natural pull toward the Pure Land.

He exhaled deeply.

Too close.
