The auction continued.
As the afternoon passed, the items became increasingly expensive.
Ancient paintings.
Rare porcelain.
Jewelry passed down through noble families.
Historical artifacts with stories almost as valuable as the objects themselves.
Chloe had expected the auction to be formal and perhaps a little boring.
Instead, she was enjoying herself.
Whenever Ruoxi introduced something interesting, Chloe leaned toward Miles and waited for him to translate. Sometimes he added a little history of his own, which made her wonder exactly how many strange things he had learned during his years wandering around the world.
Another porcelain piece was finally sold.
Chloe stared at the winning bid displayed on the screen.
"How much is that in dollars?"
Miles glanced at the number and quickly converted it for her.
Chloe's eyes widened.
"Wait... that much?"
Miles chuckled.
"And you were casually watching people raise their paddles."
