Tony said, "The mutants are adapting well to the new world and there have been no problems until now," to the others seated in the meeting room.
Most of the Avengers were present along with Hank, Storm, and Logan. Everyone listened carefully as Tony gave his update.
"Anyone trying to snoop in?" Steve asked from his seat, always thinking about security.
"There have been some people trying to snoop inside the Avengers tower. Mostly reporters and media personnel looking for some exclusive gossip. And some of them are well, stalkers and die-hard fans of some of the Avengers members, mostly you and well... Natasha," Tony said while pointing at Kakashi and Natasha.
He then made a sad face and added, "Can't believe I am not even in the top two most popular in the Avengers. Me, the genius billionaire playboy philanthropist, coming in third? This is an outrage. I demand a recount or at least better marketing for myself."
"Well, you are in top two of the most crybaby ones," Natasha said with a straight face, though her eyes showed amusement.
"Huh, who is the other one?" Tony asked quickly, looking around the table.
"Does it matter?" Natasha replied calmly.
"No, hey... I am not... a crybaby!" Tony said, pretending to be offended. He threw his hands up and continued, "I am sensitive, okay? There is a difference. I build incredible armor that help me save the world and occasionally complain about the lack of proper appreciation. That is not crying. That is expressing my artistic soul. If anything, you all should be grateful I am so emotionally available."
The whole room chuckled at Tony. Even Logan cracked a small smile while Storm shook her head in amusement.
Kakashi felt that the past couple of months were going quite well with no international threat, no world-ending threat, or even universe-ending threat.
The tower had settled into a peaceful routine. The mutant children were training happily, the adults were slowly finding their places, and the city outside seemed calmer than usual. New heroes like Spider-Man were handling street-level problems effectively.
'Is it the calm before the storm?' Kakashi thought. He had seen enough in his life to know that peaceful periods often came right before big troubles appeared.
'Speaking of storm...' Kakashi looked outside the Avengers building to the sky as the Bifrost opened above the Avengers Tower and out came Thor.
'I think I might have jinxed us a little....' Kakashi thought with a mental sigh. It was as if the universe had heard his thoughts and decided to send an Asgardian prince with a new problem immediately. He shook his head slightly at his own bad timing.
Thor came straight flying towards them. Before he could break through the window to come inside like he had done in the past, Kakashi opened it himself with quick thinking. T
he God of Thunder flew in smoothly and landed in the middle of the meeting room.
"I need the help of the Avengers, please help me!" Thor said with a bow. He looked worried, which was unusual for the normally confident prince.
"Tell us the story first, Thor," Cap said as everyone in the room turned their full attention to the Asgardian.
"Jane Foster, the earthling? You remember her?" He asked while looking around at the group.
"Yes," Clint and Kakashi answered at the same time.
"She was in the human city of London and somehow transported to another dimension. Heimdall could not see her anymore. So I came to check on her. She had then transported back to Earth but something had affected her in the other realm," He said.
Thor explained how he had searched desperately for her when she disappeared from Heimdall's sight. When she returned, she was changed in ways no one could understand yet.
'Another dimension?' Kakashi thought.
"I took her to Asgard. But Father was angry that I brought a human to the realm and thus ordered for me to send her back to Earth," Thor continued with a heavy sigh.
Kakashi said, raising an eyebrow, "Has Odin already forgotten the alliance that we made? What help would be given to Earth if he cannot even let a single human to his Asgard and help her?"
"I think he mostly refused to help not because she was a human but because I was courting her. He refuses to acknowledge our relationship. He says that she would die early compared to me and she cannot become the queen of Asgard. Preposterous I tell you..." Thor said bitterly
He paced a few steps while speaking from the heart. "My father still sees me as a reckless young prince who does not understand the weight of the throne. He believes a mortal like Jane would weaken Asgard's royal line. But I know in my heart that love is stronger than centuries of tradition. Jane is brave, intelligent, and kind. She has taught me so much about this world and about myself. I cannot simply abandon her when she needs help the most. That is not what a true prince or a good man would do."
"Very well, we will help her. Bring her here," Kakashi said without hesitation. He believed in supporting allies and friends during difficult times.
Thor's expression brightened up immediately. He then asked, "Do you have a place where you would be examining her?"
Kakashi looked at Tony who took them to the medical room of the tower. The advanced lab was equipped with the latest scanning machines and comfortable beds. Tony led the way while explaining some of the equipment proudly.
Thor shouted, "Heimdall!"
Jane came from the Bifrost, bypassing the walls of the tower, and was laid straight on the bed. She looked confused as she sat up slowly and looked around at all the unfamiliar faces.
"She looks fine to me," Logan said, stepping closer with curiosity.
"Try to touch her," Thor said with a warning tone in his voice.
Logan did so. As he touched her arm, her skin glowed red and then with a burst of energy Logan was sent flying backwards across the room.
Kakashi bodyflickered instantly, catching him while he was flying through the air. He set the mutant down gently on his feet.
"Fuck that hurt... hey missy, I know feminism but I did not mean anything by that touch. You did not have to be so rough, lady," Logan said while rubbing his shoulder and shaking his head.
"I did not do it! Sorry, it just automatically happened," Jane said, recognising Thor and many of the Avengers. Though some of the people like the one who touched her were new to her. She looked genuinely sorry and scared about what was happening to her body.
"It seems like we would have to put her up on scanners," Bruce said, nodding towards both Hank and Tony, the other two experts to unravel this mystery.
