Darren McDonagh is nineteen years old, first year at Trinity, works weekends in a bookshop off Nassau Street.

Two years ago he survived a bike crash that should have killed him. It didn't. Something else happened instead.

He didn't ask for it. Doesn't fully understand it. And he's doing a terrible job of keeping it secret.

This isn't a story about a hero. It's a story about what happens after the fight, when the adrenaline's gone and your ribs are healing wrong and you've got a nine AM lecture and you still haven't eaten since yesterday. It's about Dublin at midnight and a city that doesn't know your name and the cost of caring too much when you can barely keep yourself together.
