Chapter 306 - Chapter 306: Not Quite Human

However, at this moment, Phrolova couldn't say words of refusal, after all, this talent ability had influenced her.

Helplessly, Phrolova could only nod slightly.

Anyway, Cristoforo had already left now; you wouldn't be able to verify it even if you wanted to.

She hoped Cristoforo would hide well and not come out again...

Otherwise, she would have to remain trapped by Lucian the whole time.

Phoebe looked toward the distant Whisperwind Haven with some worry: "Since there are no clues nearby, let's go take a look at Whisperwind Haven."

Lucian looked at Phoebe puzzledly: "Did you discover something?"

Phoebe shook her head slightly: "Actually..."

As a priest of the Order of the Deep, according to the doctrine.

Clergy should keep their distance from Echoes and should not have any improper contact with them.

But those Echoes were really too cute; she had some Echo friends right here in Whisperwind Haven.

The reason she came over was also because she was somewhat worried about her friends.

But should she tell Lucian and the others...

Would they think I'm not a competent priest...

As she was fretting, a warm large hand gently rested on her shoulder.

Phoebe looked up in surprise: "...Mr. Lucian?"

Lucian smiled slightly: "If you've discovered something, just say it outright."

"As our intermediary now, we're all in the same boat."

Listening to Lucian's encouraging words, Phoebe's heart gradually firmed up: "Mm!"

"Actually, if I hadn't seen you all at the order's entrance before, I would have come here anyway."

"Because earlier I received a notice that some Echoes in Whisperwind Haven had gone out of control."

"And among those Echoes are my friends..."

"So..."

Zani asked puzzledly: "Echo friends? What's there to be embarrassed about saying?"

"Didn't Lucian and Rover have an Echo friend too?"

The one Zani referred to was naturally Abby.

Abby instantly jumped out from the Tacet Mark: "That's right, that's right!"

"Isn't it normal to have Echo friends? What's there to be afraid of saying?"

Lucian laughed: "Phoebe mentioned before that priests can't get too close to Echoes; I think that's the reason."

Zani crossed her arms and narrowed her eyes into half-moons, her tone indifferent: "That's exactly why I don't like the Order of the Deep."

Lucian pinched Phoebe's soft little face: "Now you're our intermediary, not a priest of the Order of the Deep."

"So you can speak freely without following the church's rules."

Phoebe's heart was somewhat touched: "Mm! Thank you all!"

Actually, Phoebe sometimes also felt uncomfortable with the order's decrees, not free enough.

But thinking of what the former head Fenrico had said, that these were all the Sentinel's instructions.

For the extremely reverent Phoebe toward the Sentinel, she naturally strictly followed these decrees.

Rover rubbed her chin: "Speaking of which, when Gilberto appeared near the family restaurant, the Echoes went out of control."

"And now Gilberto has fled here, and the Echoes here have also gone out of control..."

"It seems we've found the clue on Gilberto; let's go take a look over at Whisperwind Haven."

"I reckon Gilberto should be nearby there."

Lucian pinched Phrolova's cheek: "Speaking of which, causing such a big impact has to be thanks to a certain someone..."

Phrolova turned her head away, her face full of displeasure.

Zani asked curiously: "Could the petals you all mentioned... be something belonging to this Phrolova?"

Rover smiled slightly: "Miss Zani is very perceptive, but fortunately we've caught her now."

"Next, as long as we catch Gilberto, there shouldn't be any problems."

Zani's eyes lit up: "That means I can get off work soon? Then let's hurry and move out."

Lucian chuckled: "It seems only at times like this does Miss Zani become more proactive."

Phoebe cautiously chimed in: "Also, please help look for my Echo friends too..."

Zani was full of vigor: "No problem!"

Arriving at Whisperwind Haven, this was a vast highland on the outskirts of Ragunna City, dotted with uniquely shaped windmills and babbling streams.

Phoebe introduced: "The former Whisperwind Haven was called Whisperwind Rockside, and due to the lack of water sources, it was full of exposed rocks everywhere."

"People built clusters of windmills on the heights adjacent to the sea of clouds, channeling water from lower terrains into this land."

"After years of irrigation, it gradually formed the current landscape."

"But with the change in landscape, those attracted weren't only humans and Echoes, but also some dangerous Tacet Discords."

"Later, people and Echoes were thus forced to evacuate, and they established a new home downstream from Whisperwind Haven, which is Egla Town."

Zani sighed: "So that's how it is... no wonder it looks so desolate here."

Aside from a few towers standing tall and relatively intact, many buildings had already become ruins.

Lucian pointed toward two children ahead: "Are those two kids the ones Cristoforo talked to?"

Zani nodded slightly: "That's right; I just saw him say a few words to them before leaving."

Lucian walked forward and saw the two little girls seemingly rehearsing something...

The little girl in red extended her hand, her tone firm: "Take this! You vile monster, eat my sword!"

The little girl in white seemed to be the narrator: "The saintess defeated the monster attempting to climb the temple steps."

"But the Black Tide has not yet ended; more nightmare-like monsters are surging out from the mist."

"The saintess realizes that her fate will conclude at this very moment."

"As if by divine revelation, she intends to make a sacrifice for the Sentinel and the people of Rinascita."

The little girl in red continued piously: "...Imperator, please guide me!"

She appeared to be playing the saintess.

The little girl in white interrupted her: "Wait, I feel like your tone isn't quite right."

"Her Holiness the Saintess should be more resolute?"

The little girl in red thought for a moment: "Resolute? Then how about this..."

"In the name of Imperator, you vile monsters!"

"I swear I'll kick your butts hard with my boots!"

The little girl in white shook her head: "It's resolute, not ferocious; you got it completely wrong!"

Lucian interjected with a chuckle: "How about this instead?"

The two little girls turned their heads, seeing Lucian's expression turn serious, his tone resolute:

"Fallen shackles, become blades!"

"The cage of destiny, severed by my hand!"

"Imperator, grant me the power to break the dawn!"

"Even if the Threnodian corrodes my bones, this body shall still raise your banner high!"

Everyone fell into a stunned silence.

After a moment, applause suddenly rang out incongruously; Rover clapped and praised: "Looks like you have quite the potential to be a saintess."

Zani scratched her head: "But he's a guy."

Phoebe pondered: "Then what should it be called... a saint?"

Rover pondered for a moment before shaking her head slightly: "Still far from saintly, and not quite human either."

Lucian: "..."
