Axel walked down the narrow, dimly lit corridor toward Jayvaughn.
Jayvaughn could clearly feel Axel's presence closing in behind him, but he deliberately ignored him at first.
He kept his attention locked on the core of the Earthshaker, frantically meddling with its complex mechanical housing despite having no real technical knowledge of how to shut it down.
After several agonizing seconds of silent tension, Jayvaughn finally turned around.
He stared at the younger man, his voice flat and harsh as he asked, "What are you doing here?"
Axel met his gaze without flinching, answering quietly, "I am here to get you out."
Jayvaughn did not hesitate, his tone dropping into a cold, uncompromising bite.
"Just leave."
Axel felt a sharp pang of hurt at Jayvaughn's frosty reception, but deep down inside, he knew he completely deserved it.
