They rushed him to the hospital where the doctors immediately checked on him.
Surprisingly, he only had small scratch injuries, nothing serious at all. Since most of it was only an illusion, the treatment was finished quickly, and he was soon sent to a private room to rest.
"Finally, I can wear real clothes!"
Unbeknownst to everyone else, he had actually been walking around naked the entire time, with the illusion still active. He had been manipulating the minds of everyone around him, making them perceive him as a normal office worker who looked like he had struggled desperately just to survive without doing anything unimaginable.
The dirty clothes, the bruises, even the exhaustion on his body were not real. They only existed inside the minds of the people who saw him.
And the scariest part was that none of them even questioned it.
It was just like the strange effect happening to his appearance...
Seeker of Fortune:
That is one hell of a good effect. I wonder where the GM even got that from. As far as I know, his power isn't specialized in illusions.
Sovereign of Wind:
Probably from beepbeepbeep, the Ruler of Illusionary Waves. I heard she was actually a good friend of the GM.
Not long after that, he was finally assigned to a room.
He had barely settled down when several people wearing formal suits came to visit him. Their expressions were calm, but the atmosphere around them felt heavy and official.
"Good afternoon, sir. We are from the official Federation of Hunters under the government. We handle all cases related to gates, dungeons, and monsters, and we would like to ask you a few questions regarding the recent event that happened at the company where you work."
They spoke as they showed their ID badges.
Xavier slowly lifted his head, still pretending to look weak and exhausted, as if even listening to them was already difficult for him.
"Ah... what do you want to know?"
"We know this is difficult, but we need to ask what happened inside that dungeon. Can you tell us everything?"
They pulled a chair closer and sat down, their eyes fixed on him while waiting for his answer.
"I was working at my desk when suddenly the ground shook, and a few seconds later we were already inside a dungeon... and... and everyone started panicking. Some people tried to find an exit while others just stood there, including me. But then—"
He stopped speaking, lowering his head as if it was hard for him to continue.
"Monsters..."
They attacked us almost immediately.
"I... we ran, but people were getting slaughtered one by one. I was just trying to survive. I managed to lose a few of them, but—"
"We heard you survived because of a certain person. Can you tell us more about him?"
"Yes... yes."
"I thought I had already lost them, but not long after that I got surrounded again. Then a figure appeared and saved me. I didn't see his face because he was wearing a mask, but he killed those monsters and cleared the dungeon."
"So he took all the valuables and treasures inside?"
"I... I don't know..."
"Well, sir, after you got out of the dungeon, our team entered before it closed. We found nothing except monster corpses and... ehem... pieces of the civilians."
"We believe that this mysterious individual took all the rewards from the dungeon. If that is true, then he violated Article 10027 regarding the illegal collection of dungeon resources without a proper license or entry pass."
"So, sir, we would really like to hear more about this man who saved you. He might actually be a criminal hunter."
"Yes, sir... but I really don't know anything else about him except the fact that he saved me..."
After he said that, one of the men suddenly approached the officer and whispered something to him.
"Well then, sir, thank you for your time. We will approach you again if we need your help."
I nodded politely as they left the room, showing complete cooperation. But the moment the door finally closed, I leaned back on the bed lazily again.
Observer of Malice:
Wow. Nice performance.
Defier of Fate:
How funny that the criminal they are looking for is right in front of them.
Tyrant of Blazing Flame:
That law is so stupid. Why is entering a dungeon the moment it opens considered illegal? Seriously, this just ruins all the epic scenes we should have seen.
I nodded after reading that.
Indeed, it doesn't make any sense at all. They only implemented that rule so they could claim ownership of the dungeon and the resources inside beforehand while hiding behind the excuse of it being "legal."
And because of that, the rescue of the people trapped inside always takes too long, and more civilians end up dying.
Another filthy reason why I hate this hunter society and the greedy people inside the government.
I don't want to get involved with them at all.
