Chapter 26 - The First Public Board

Noon sunlight filtered through the cracked hallway skylights of the East Wing as every surviving electronic screen flickered to life simultaneously.

"Every hallway monitor and battery-powered tablet in the corridor just rebooted," the frost mage reported, stepping into the main command office.

"The screens are projecting shimmering text lines."

"The System is deploying its first global public interface," the First Player replied, turning his gaze toward the flickering wall display.

"It is indexing every surviving faction and awakened combatant in this sector."

"Look at the commotion in the main corridor," the dark-haired striker said, glancing out through the open doorway.

"Dozens of students are crowding around the bulletin boards to read the numbers."

[ Faction Territory Registry: East Wing Sanctuary (First Citadel) — Controlled Area: 25% | Population: 60 Verified Residents ]

"Look at that leaderboard," she continued with a fierce grin, leaning her hip against the side table.

"You are sitting at the absolute top of the individual combat ranking by more than two hundred kills."

"The board separates personal solo victories from party contributions," the youth observed, analyzing the detailed sub-menus with his interface.

"That prevents faction leaders from inflating their individual combat ratings using squad kills."

"Who is that name holding the second rank under the gym faction?" the frost mage asked, pointing her finger toward a radiant banner.

"The sponsee candidate from the athletic building."

[ Personal Combat Dominance Board: Regional Rank #2 — Jax (Divine Sponsee) | Sponsor Entity: Astral Sovereign Astra | Verified Kills: 94 ]

"A sponsored candidate backed by an off-world entity," the youth murmured, his eyes narrowing as he read the patron details.

"The patron is offering divine bounties to any awakened who binds their soul to her celestial court."

"I remember the runner from the track team before the rifts opened," the striker remarked, twirling a spare throwing dagger between her fingers.

"He was always quiet, focused on his sprinting drills, and never caused trouble with anyone."

"His patron must have exploited his desperation when the first wave hit the gymnasium," the frost mage suggested, resting her staff against the desk.

"These cosmic entities look for vulnerable mortals and offer overwhelming power in exchange for absolute obedience."

"That means the gym faction is no longer just a collection of terrified athletes hiding behind their captain," the dark-haired girl noted, crossing her arms.

"They have an authentic divine champion armed with off-world relics."

"Let's look at the territorial breakdown across the school grounds," the First Player instructed, expanding the schematic map.

The glowing display split into four distinct quadrants, highlighting the contested zones across the campus.

The East Wing was marked in sovereign blue under the First Citadel, while the southern gymnasium and football field were claimed by the sports faction.

To the west, the central library was marked in amber as an unaligned magical hazard, while the northern administrative tower remained cloaked in crimson dungeon corruption under Warden Rexar.

"Four major territories across the campus," the frost mage observed, tracing the perimeter boundaries with a stylus.

"We hold twenty-five percent of the physical campus, but the remaining three sectors are completely isolated from our supply lines."

"The sports faction controls the gym food storage, the library has mutated into an active spell trap, and the dungeon boss holds the central core," the striker summarized with a sharp scowl.

"And now every survivor in the building is watching that public leaderboard to decide which faction to join."

"We will secure all four sectors before the week is over," the youth stated calmly, closing the map display.

"First, we need to establish our public exchange charter for the independent survivors gathering at our gates."

"What terms are we posting on the outer bulletin board?" she asked, glancing toward the courtyard entrance.

"Every civilian survivor receives free emergency rations, clean drinking water, secure shelter, and basic medical care," the First Player answered without hesitation.

"Nobody works under duress to earn the right to survive."

"And what about outside awakened who want private quarters or commercial trading rights?" Vasa inquired, preparing the distribution slate.

"Those who want private sleeping bunks or access to our fortified armory can trade three monster cores or provide five hours of public labor," he outlined.

"The trade ledger will be posted openly on the courtyard gate so every resident can see where our materials go."

"That is fair and transparent," the frost mage agreed, inscribing the charter rules onto the distribution board.

"It prevents corrupt hoarders from extorting the weaker students while ensuring our defenses receive steady material contributions."

"We should make sure our medical clinic has enough clean bandages to treat incoming refugees," Emilia suggested, walking into the room with her herbal ledger.

"Many of the students who escaped from the vocational classrooms are suffering from lacerations and exhaustion."

"Take ten bundles of swift-growth roots from the greenhouse inventory and set up an intake triage station near the main doors," the youth directed.

"Kendra is already stationing defensive sentries along the outer perimeter to manage the intake lines."

"We screen everyone for hidden parasites before letting them enter the residential wards."

"Commander, we have a crowd of forty students from the vocational wing waiting at the gate!" the shield guardian called out, jogging into the office with her gear ready.

"They saw your number one ranking on the public screens and fled from the athletic building."

"Bring them through the intake corridor and provide hot soup and clean water," the youth ordered, nodding to the shield guardian.

"Assign them sleeping quarters in the second-floor classrooms."

"They will be overjoyed to hear that," Kendra smiled warmly, adjusting the straps on her vambraces.

"The gym leaders were forcing everyone to hand over half their rations just for floor space."

"That kind of extortion ends the moment people step into our sanctuary," the striker said, her eyes flashing with dangerous resolve.

"If any gym bullies try to send enforcers to harass our newcomers, I will personally trim their fingers."

"Save your blades for the real threats," the youth advised with a faint smirk.

"The cosmic patrons are not going to sit quietly while we build an independent fortress."

"Look at the spectator channels flickering on the side panels," the frost mage pointed out, scrolling through the celestial feed.

"Several off-world entities are already discussing the school's territorial balance."

"They view our world as an entertainment spectacle for their celestial audiences," the First Player said, his voice cold and steady.

"They want gladiator matches, drama, and desperate mortals begging for divine favor."

"They are going to be severely disappointed when they realize we do not take orders from the stars," the striker laughed, checking her daggers.

"We answer only to our own steel."

"Look at the betting pools opening on the side stream..." Vasa murmured, tracking the rapid influx of cosmic coin icons.

"Over fifty thousand astral credits are already wagered on our upcoming clash."

"Let them bet whatever fortunes they want," the youth said, resting his hand on the pommel of his blade.

"Every coin wagered against the First Citadel is a coin they will lose."

"Our archers are finishing their perimeter sweep of the courtyard," the shield guardian reported, looking through the exterior window.

"The arena grounds are clear of debris and ready for combat."

"We positioned our barricades around the perimeter benches to protect the spectator crowd," the botanical specialist added, adjusting her supplies.

"If stray mana bolts fly off the court during the duel, our protective barriers will absorb the explosive impact."

"We also placed emergency frost wards around the lower bleachers," the frost mage reported, pointing toward the courtyard perimeter.

"If any spectator panics or attempts to cross the boundary line, the cold mist will restrain their movement instantly."

"Everyone knows their defensive responsibilities," the youth noted, confirming the squad formation.

"No matter what divine tricks the challenger brings, we maintain full control of the courtyard."

"Our fighters are eager to show the other wings where true power resides," Kendra remarked, adjusting the grip on her weapon.

"This duel will unite the remaining independent students behind our banner once and for all."

Suddenly, a blinding pillar of celestial radiance descended from the clouds, striking the center of the school courtyard with a deafening roar.

The radiant light pooled across the pavement, forming glowing glyphs that burned into the stone.

"The patron just broadcasted a public challenge across every screen in the school!" the striker whispered, her hand dropping to the hilt of her cutter.

"She wants her champion to execute you in front of all one hundred and fifty survivors!"

"Look at the spectator channel opening above the courtyard," the frost mage warned, pointing toward a shimmering rift in the sky.

"Thousands of off-world entities are placing bets on the outcome of this duel."

"The gods are eager to put on an entertaining show for their cosmic audience," the First Player said, a cold, predatory smile touching his lips.

"They believe a frightened teenager wrapped in celestial armor can intimidate the First Player."

"The sponsee is fast, but his movements on the leaderboard show he relies on borrowed stat enhancements," the striker observed, studying the combat logs.

"He does not have genuine combat instincts... he is moving on puppet strings."

"Tell our defenders to clear the center of the basketball court and set up spectator perimeters," the youth instructed his squad.

"We give them the duel they asked for."

"I will make sure our archers keep the surrounding rooftops completely secure," Kendra declared, slamming her shield against the floor.

"If any sports faction thugs try to interfere, we will pin them to the masonry!"

"Let the whole school watch this battle," the First Player said, stepping toward the hallway with his void blade at his side.

"We are about to show these off-world patrons what happens when a real player takes the field!" the striker shouted, matching his pace with a fierce, eager grin.

"Every survivor in this building is about to see who truly commands this fortress," the frost mage added, following them into the bright corridor.

"Our sanctuary will stand unbroken against any divine challenger," Emilia stated with quiet pride, checking the fresh herb pouches strapped to her belt.

"Let the stars watch our victory."

High above the school, the radiant glyphs burned against the noon sky, inviting every survivor across the campus to witness the coming arena trial.
