The erased street pulled away beneath Kendra's boots. The black line had removed it from the district's map, yet the pavement still existed long enough to slide toward the canal as if a current had caught it.
Nox reached for her, but the apartment block shifted first. Its weight dragged the remaining curb toward the new boundary, and a whole lower section began tilting over the water.
Vasa watched the change from the canal bridge with her recorder open. The black line was not destroying ground. It was redirecting the mana transfer that made the ground count as a stable place.
"The boundary is feeding the block into the district," she said through the channel. "If I stop the transfer, the street can remain physical long enough for the residents to clear."
"Can you stop it?" Nox asked.
"For a short interval," she replied. "Not without damaging the channels I used at the medical anchor."
