Chapter 13 - Only Choice

The static flow of the river was not disturbed by anyone. Expect now, by Elira. As she threw a pebble right into the waterbody. The calm slow water began flowing just slightly differently, but after just a few second, it reverted back to its initial state.

She sat near the riverbank, still tightly holding on to her broken sword. The same sword that was broken when Kairon made her destroy the granary. Was it worth it? Maybe for Kairon. Even though he kept his promise and gave her a new sword from his own pocket, it possibly couldn't replace the old one.

The one they gave to her.

She hugged the metal tightly, as if releasing it would mean letting go of something she never wanted to have gone.

She didn't hate Kairon for it. Afterall, he was their son.

They were the ones who took her in, they were the ones who loved her. When she had no one to call family.

And now they were gone.

"Whenever you said to be comfortable around you, all the time you said to call you informally. I never did any one that.

I would always think I wasn't a part. I regret thinking like that.

Even though you loved me so much, I did nothing but hid behind walls, hoping that one day you would be gone…

And… now.. now that you are…"

Her body shivered, now fully covering her sword. There were tears that others couldn't see, and regrets only she could feel.

"I… miss you…."

--

"blubblubblub…" Kairon muttered some utter nonsense as he stared at his dairy with a very serious expression.

As much of a genius Kairon is, he doesn't have photographic memory. So, he has no choice but to note down every future event he can remember on paper. Because paper remembers more than people. Something like that.

"The day I transmigrated was just a day after Magnus came to this world. It's been 4 weeks by now. It's annoying that I don't have accurate dates of the events, but I am pretty sure nothing special happened as for now."

He turned the pages of his dairy mindlessly. "Another shame that I didn't the read the first novel…", he let out a heavy sigh, flopping his head back and staring at the orange ceiling.

Suddenly, he started to scratch his head with extreme force. "GAHH!! I don't like this at all!"

Kairon in fact hated it, back home he never had to do anything except go to his part time job, stare at the cute employee at the convenience store and read novels like a bum. But here? Here he had to think like some kingdom building player with no tutorial.

[Hey! I exist!]

You don't do shit.

[Fair.]

Now with vague memory, vague information and a vague mindset. Kairon had to make choices. Choices that would affect the future of this set-stage world he was thrown into.

He stopped the idiotic action and fixed his hair, thinking about his plan in the process. "From the timeline I noted down, Aldryn should not be here. He should already be in the Veriel Kingdom to the east."

For a moment, Kairon remained silenced. Then, he clicked his tongue. "Tch! Is there no other way?"

"Using a blood contract comes with extremely bad conditions. The obedience is just a side part, the main point of a blood contract is that the person is able to control the blood of the other party. And to use that, you have to compensate with your own blood, so that they don't die."

"It's pure bullshit!!"

Knock! knock!

The door of the study room was shaken by the pestering of a familiar fellow. Varn.

He entered the room without waiting for permission.

"This guy needs to know his place" Kairon generously thought.

"Master. I have come to inform you about my conversation with the proclaimed brother of the undead."

Kairon closed the diary and glanced at Varn with interest. "Oh? How did the conversation go?"

Varn's voice dropped low, almost as if he did not want to talk. But unfortunately, he had to.

"Umm… well. I did say that but Aldryn refused it and said nobles are a bunch of dogshit, heinous, disgusting, piece of shit kind of people who should be burned alive."

"That's a strong opinion." Kairon remarked. Although he had expected Aldryn to be distrustful. This was of another level. That was pure hate.

Varn silently stared at the diary. Then, spoke again. "So? What now? Shouldn't we just leave them be?"

"Yeah, I could do that, but…"

"Then I would be losing a precious bodyguard…"

"Then I would be losing a precious citizen…"

Varn was impressed by Kairon's selfless kindness, yet he didn't quite get a noble going to such lengths for an unknown peasant.

"Do you think you can distract Aldryn while I heal his sister?" Kairon got up from his seat, and headed straight towards the window.

Varn did not answer immediately, "… I don't think it will be that easy.", while at the same time, he thought. "He must really like that window."

Then, Kairon turned to Varn and smiled softly. "So, you know about his strength huh..."

Varn was a bit taken aback by the smile, it wasn't that Kairon never smiled but most of the time his smiles were not very *happy* smiles. Moreover, the fact that Kairon knew about Aldryn's strength meant that he could sense mana. Another surprise to the fact that Karion had never learned anything about magic.

He stared at Karion, almost glaring at him. "Who the hell are y-"

"Varn." Karion's voice cut right in, his amber eyes staring back with unknown intensity.

"I will take your questions later. How about listening to me first."

This was the first time Karion had ever spoken so boldly. It was well-known that Kairon was a rude guy who would speak his mind, but not one who could offer such pressure to the point Varn started to get goosebumps.

Varn broke the contact and looked down, and with a hesitant voice, he answered. "Y…Yes."

--

As Varn and Kairon were taking a stroll in the town, the people occasionally greeted them with respect. Except the fact that Varn could not hear them much better.

Kairon took a glance at Varn, then at the system screen.

[>Authority Recognition (Passive): The ability will be always activated and the user will bring forth a sense of authority and helps the user to aurafarm.]

"What a fucking liar." Kairon thought, even though the ability clearly stated *passive*, it wasn't always active. It would only be activated when Kairon wanted to do so. Of course, that wasn't the issue here.

"The main issue is that if it gives wrong information, how can I possibly trust it's other skills."

Kairon wasn't the type to trust thing

Kairon wasn't the type to trust things very easily, more so if they had shown to be wrong. Unfortunately for Kairon, he had no choice but to be grateful for what he got and use it to his advantage.

Soon, with no adversary in their path, Varn and Kairon had reached their destination.

(House number 47. Aldryn Everhart.)

Kairon knocked on the door. No one answered.

He glanced at Varn, then knocked again.

No answer.

"Guess he's not present."

"I can tell, genius."

"Oh! Thanks."

Kairon shook his head in disappointment before opening the door.

They both slowly entered the house. The house looked no different that before, but the dreadful aura that Kairon could feel seeping through his entire body was the answer to his concern.

"Hey, you know.. we are tres-"

Before Varn could finish, Kairon rushed straight towards the room. The room was filled with an even stronger aura, almost transforming into thick fog.

"Shit!" Without wasting a single breath, he bolted towards the bed. Aurelia's face had gone paler than ever, her purple dry lips looked like they would crack with a simple touch and the black circles below her eyes told Kairon everything he needed to know.

"This is bad.." He put his hand on her head, checking her temperature. He reflexively removed it immediately, "Cold!"

He took out the scroll from his coat, then pulled back his sleeve. "Guess, I will start right away."
