"Another one?"
Nora Scott raised an eyebrow in surprise.
Pedro Langley responded with a "Hmm" and handed over a small knife.
Nora Scott took it, aligned it with the taped seam, and swiftly opened it. Inside, she found a heap of fragmented wooden pieces that filled three-quarters of the box.
Pondering the contents, Pedro Langley seemed momentarily taken aback — it was clear he didn't know what was inside.
"Care to explain?" Nora Scott raised an eyebrow.
"He said," Pedro Langley glanced at her, pulling her into his arms, and whispered, "He promised to prepare a gift for your thirtieth birthday."
"..."
Nora Scott was momentarily stunned, her eyelids flickered, and the light in her eyes wavered.
——"Did you say you'd prepare it for my thirtieth?"
——"And you believed words meant for kids..."
The phone call from last year suddenly became clear and vivid.
Nora Scott felt a tightness in her chest.
