Chapter 12 - Chapter 12: Signals in the Dark

Chapter 12: Signals in the Dark

Good—you're being precise, that's how we get this right.

Right now the issue is:

Still a bit wordy

Slightly dramatic in narration

Not flowing like a natural street-level novel

Needs to feel more real, grounded, and easy to read

Let me fix it properly.

Blood & Neon: The Curse of Orisha City

Chapter 12: Signals in the Dark

By the time Ayo and Yagazie left the shrine, the city already felt off.

Not quiet. Not empty. Just… wrong.

People were outside, but nobody moved normally. Some stood still, staring at their phones. Others argued in low voices. A few just kept looking up at the sky.

The crack was still there.

It stretched across the skyline, faintly glowing, like something had torn the sky open and forgotten to close it.

Yagazie exhaled slowly.

"You see this, right?"

Ayo nodded. "Yeah."

They walked past a small electronics shop. All the TVs inside were on, but nothing clear was showing. Just static.

Then the sound came.

Not loud. Not sharp.

Just… there.

Like whispers mixed inside noise.

Yagazie frowned. "This thing again."

Ayo slowed down. He tilted his head slightly, listening.

For him, it wasn't just noise.

It was clearer.

"...signal active…"

"...target confirmed…"

"...Seventh Flame…"

He looked away from the shop.

"They're looking for me."

Yagazie turned. "Who?"

"I don't know yet."

Before she could ask more, the screens inside the shop flickered.

For a second, everything went clear.

A symbol flashed across all the TVs at once.

A spiral, crossed with straight lines.

Then everything went off.

---

They kept walking.

Ayo didn't rush, but he wasn't relaxed either. His eyes moved more now—watching people, buildings, corners.

Like he was expecting something.

"You've seen that symbol before?" he asked.

Yagazie nodded slowly. "Yeah… not here. Somewhere else. Old files. Stuff that didn't make sense."

"What kind of files?"

She hesitated. "Government level. Hidden ones."

Ayo didn't look surprised.

"That makes sense."

---

Somewhere else in the city, far below ground, a room lit up with alarms.

Monitors came on one after another.

Maps. Signals. Camera feeds.

One screen locked onto Ayo.

An analyst leaned forward. "We have movement."

A man behind him asked, "Source?"

The analyst swallowed. "Same pattern as before."

"Say it clearly."

"…Project Seventh Flame."

Silence filled the room.

The man nodded once. "Track him."

---

Back on the street, Ayo stopped walking.

Yagazie noticed. "What is it?"

He looked around slowly.

"They're close."

"Who?"

This time, he answered without thinking.

"The ones who knew this would happen."

Before she could react, a black van turned into the street.

It didn't rush.

It didn't honk.

It just moved slowly… and stopped.

Not far from them.

Engine still running.

Yagazie lowered her voice. "Ayo…"

"I see it."

They didn't move.

For a few seconds, nobody stepped out of the van.

Nobody spoke.

But the feeling was clear.

They were being watched.

---

Ayo took a small step forward.

"Don't run," he said quietly.

"I'm not running," Yagazie replied, though her voice wasn't steady.

The streetlight above them flickered once.

Then again.

Then everything went quiet.

No whispers.

No noise.

Nothing.

Ayo looked up at the sky again.

The crack pulsed once.

Something shifted behind it.

Not fully visible.

But enough.

---

He exhaled slowly.

"This is bigger than I thought."

Yagazie shook her head. "You think?"

He looked at her.

"No… I mean bigger than all of us."

---

Behind them, a security camera adjusted its angle.

Zooming in.

Locking onto Ayo's face

And inside the van

A screen lit up bright and clean it can blind
