Chapter 63 - Hide and Seek

When the trio passed the yellow gate, they slid down a hill before reaching a room with a large red button at the center, with four cables connected to it, a large gray shutter on their right side with a dark red keycard machine next to it, a red shutter in front of them, and an opening on their left side.

Michelle looked at the button. "We'll need to power that button up first," she said.

Doey nodded before approaching the opening on the left. After Doey went down the stairs and turned to the right, he saw a lever near a computer and one of the wires connected to the button, which made him stretch his arm toward it.

Doey grabbed the lever and pulled it down, which powered the computer up, before retracting his arm and walking away. After Doey left the room, he looked at the duo. "It's done," he said.

Michelle nodded and aimed both GrabPack arms at the button before pulling both triggers, launching them and pressing it.

Soon after, the red shutter opened, which made them approach it; as they entered the room, Michelle spotted a dark red keycard next to a mini Hoppy Hopscotch corpse, which made her approach it.

When Michelle was close to the corpse, she picked up the keycard and examined it. The trio heard roaring, which made them turn their heads to the back. "We have to hide," Katelynn said.

Michelle turned her head to the right and spotted a large wall cavity before turning her head to the duo and pointing at it. "In here," she said before stepping over the corpse and squeezing into it.

After the duo entered the wall cavity, they saw Cat-Bee standing near the button before sniffing around the room. Cat-Bee growled a bit before walking away; Doey stretched his head out of the wall cavity's opening and toward the button before looking around.

Doey turned his head to the right and saw Cat-Bee looking around the far room before retracting his head. After Doey's head was back in the wall cavity, he looked at the duo. "She's still out there, and I don't think she's gonna leave for a while..." he said.

Katelynn was worried. "But we can't stay here like this," she said. "What are we supposed to do?"

Michelle approached the wall cavity's opening and looked at the keycard machine before looking at the keycard in her hand. Michelle took a deep breath and exhaled. "It sounds like we don't have a choice," she said before getting out of the wall cavity.

Doey looked at Michelle. "Wait, are you gonna—" he was interrupted when she sprinted toward the shutter, which shocked the duo.

When Michelle was close to the machine, she put the dark red keycard into the keycard slot. Cat-Bee sniffed the air before turning to Michelle and roaring, which made her flinch and look at her as she charged toward her.

Before Michelle could do anything, a dough arm wrapped around her waist before being quickly pulled away; when she was inside the wall cavity, Doey held her close.

Cat-Bee entered the room and looked around while sniffing the air; she growled before leaving the room. When Cat-Bee was out of sight, Doey held Michelle out before sternly looking at her. "You really need to stop doing stuff like that," he said.

Michelle chuckled a bit. "Sorry..." she said. "But on the plus side, I managed to put the keycard into the machine; we're one step closer to getting out of this area."

Doey looked at the shutter before sighing. "As much as I hate to admit it, that's true..." he said.

After Doey placed Michelle on the ground, he looked at the opening. "There's probably a mechanism on the other side that's powered up by that button on the ground, but we'll need confirmation," he said.

Katelynn lit up before smiling. "Leave it to me," she said before forming into a puddle-like form.

The duo looked at Katelynn as she slid out of the wall cavity before slithering toward the wall. As Katelynn got on the wall, Cat-Bee entered the room and sniffed around a bit.

After Cat-Bee left the room, Katelynn leaped toward the ground before slithering toward the gray shutter and squeezing under it. When Katelynn was on the other side, she reformed herself and stretched a bit. "Now to see what we're working with," she said.

Katelynn looked forward and saw a conveyor belt with a closed gate and large rocks inside, a hiding spot, and a large wall cavity on the left side. Katelynn hummed and nodded before kneeling and putting her arm through the shutter gap.

When Katelynn's arm was outside, she stretched it toward the button; when the duo saw it, she pointed at it before retracting it and reentering the shutter. Doey nodded. "That confirms that the button is in play again," he said.

Michelle nodded. "Then let's go," she said, which made Doey nod before they got out of the wall cavity and approached the button.

When the duo was close to the button, Michelle aimed and pulled the right trigger, launching the red hand and pressing it.

As the shutter and the conveyor belt gate opened, Cat-Bee turned to the duo and roared; Katelynn looked at them. "On the left, there's a hiding spot!" she shouted before entering the wall cavity.

Doey picked Michelle up and quickly entered the wall cavity before Cat-Bee entered the small room. As Doey placed Michelle on the ground, Cat-Bee sniffed around the room before growling and walking away.

Doey stretched his head out and looked at Cat-Bee as she entered the far room before he stepped out of the wall cavity and looked at the duo. "Move," he said.

The duo got out of the wall cavity before approaching the conveyor belt's stairs, which made Doey follow behind. When the trio got on the conveyor belt, it started moving, which made them crouch.

The trio heard a vent door open from the back, which made them turn their heads to the back. "Sounds like Cat-Bee is moving to a different area," Michelle said.

When Katelynn looked forward, she was terrified. "Guys..." she said.

When the duo looked forward, they saw a large crusher with spikes inside crushing some rocks. "What now?!" Katelynn shouted.

Michelle looked up and spotted a handle above the crusher before pointing at it. "Up there!" she shouted.

Doey looked up before stretching his arm and grabbing the handle. "Katie, climb on my back," he said as he carried Michelle in his other arm.

Katelynn nodded as she quickly got on Doey's back before he stood up and stepped back while the conveyor belt moved forward. When the remaining rocks fell into the crusher, Doey looked forward. "Hold on," he continued before sprinting forward.

Soon after, Doey jumped and swung over the crusher before letting go of the handle and landing on the ground.

Katelynn got off Doey's back and stood up as he placed Michelle on the ground. "Cat-Bee may not be here right now, but we shouldn't let our guard down," he said. "We need to leave this area."

Michelle looked forward and saw a computer with three deactivated cables and two red-lit cables near a red shutter before pointing at it. "There's a computer up ahead; let's check it out," she said, which made the duo nod before they approached it.

When the trio was close to the computer, they saw a red button in a case. "Looks like we'll need to power this thing up," Katelynn said.

Doey turned his head to the back and saw a button on the ground. "We got another button as well," he said. "However, it doesn't look like we'll be using it for a while..."

Michelle looked at the red-lit cables. "Let's start with wherever these red cables lead," she said, which made the duo nod before they followed them.

As the trio turned to the right, they saw a partially opened gray shutter, which made them crouch before entering. When the trio stood properly, they saw a button on the wall. "There's our other button," Katelynn said.

Michelle turned her head to the right and saw a lever before approaching it. "And this thing will power it up," she said.

Michelle stood before the machine and grabbed the lever before pulling it down, which activated the button, opened two shutters, and lit up the two lower cables; the trio heard roaring, which shocked them. "Damn, she's persistent..." she said, lowly.

Katelynn quickly approached the button and pressed it, which lit up the upper right cable before pressing the button again, which lit up the upper left cable and opened the red shutter in the room. "In there!" she shouted.

The trio quickly entered the room and saw a large wall cavity next to a blue hand scanner on the wall and a closed shutter.

Michelle aimed at the scanner and pulled the left trigger, launching the blue hand and touching it; as it was scanning, she heard steps in the back, which made her grit her teeth. "Come on, come on..." she said, lowly.

After the scanner finished, Michelle quickly retracted the blue hand as the shutter opened. "Hide," she said.

The trio quickly entered the wall cavity before Cat-Bee entered the small room, roaring. Katelynn looked at Cat-Bee as she sniffed the ground. "Is there any way that we can get her to our side?" she asked.

Michelle stared at Cat-Bee with a slight frown. "As much as I hate to say it, I think she's beyond saving..." she said, lowly. "While she may act like Yarnaby, she seems more feral than he is and doesn't follow reasoning... just instincts..."

Cat-Bee growled before walking away; Doey poked his head out and stretched it toward the opening before looking around. "The coast is clear," he said before leaving the wall cavity.

After the duo got out of the wall cavity, they entered a large room with a cement mixer. Michelle looked at the stairs. "Let's see where this leads us," she said before they went down them.

When the trio turned to the right, they saw a machine with a lever on it before approaching it. Michelle grabbed the lever before pulling it down, which turned a few of the cables blue. "With that pulled down, what did it do?" she asked.

Doey looked down the steps and saw a machine with a blue hand scanner next to a large wall cavity. "There's a blue hand scanner down the steps," he said before looking at three red-lit cables around the area. "Possibly two more around the area."

Michelle turned to the stairs. "Then let's get them powered up," she said before going down them, which made the duo follow behind her.

When Michelle was close to the hand scanner, she aimed and pulled the left trigger, launching the blue hand and touching it. Halfway through the scan, the trio heard a vent open and roaring, which made them look up. "That's not good..." Katelynn said, lowly.

When the steps grew closer, Michelle gritted her teeth and pulled the left trigger, retracting the blue hand and stopping the scanner. "Hide," she said.

The trio quickly entered the wall cavity before Cat-Bee entered the area, growling and sniffing the ground. Cat-Bee roared in the air before she walked away. Doey poked his head out before leaving the wall cavity. "The coast is clear," he said.

After the duo left the wall cavity, Michelle aimed at the hand scanner and pulled the left trigger, launching the blue hand and continuing the scan.

When the scanner finished, the trio heard roaring; Michelle turned to the back and saw a gap. "Through there," she said before sprinting forward and going through the gap.

After the duo went through the gap, they hid in the shadows as Cat-Bee entered the area and sniffed around; soon after, she growled and walked away. The trio turned their heads to the back and saw the stairs. "Time to go up," Michelle said before climbing them.

When the trio reached the top of the stairs, they saw another machine with a blue hand scanner. "Here's the second one," Doey said.

Michelle aimed and pulled the left trigger, launching the blue hand and touching the scanner. Halfway through the scan, the trio heard steps and caught a glance at Cat-Bee. Michelle gritted her teeth. "C'mon, c'mon..." she said, lowly.

When the hand scanner finished, Michelle retracted the blue hand and jumped to the lower steps, which activated the air jets on her GrabPack before landing on the ground. "Let's move," she said.

After the duo dropped to the lower steps, they quickly went through the gap before entering the wall cavity. Cat-Bee landed on the lower steps before sniffing at them; she growled before climbing them.

When Cat-Bee was out of sight, Doey poked his head out and looked around before leaving the wall cavity. "You're good to come out," he said.

After the duo got out of the wall cavity, they went through the gap and approached the steps. Katelynn turned her head to the left and spotted a machine with a blue hand scanner. "There's the last one," she said.

The trio approached the scanner before Michelle aimed and pulled the left trigger, launching the blue hand and touching it. As the scanner was halfway done, the trio heard roaring and footsteps getting closer. "Damn it," Michelle said.

When Doey turned his head to the back, he saw Cat-Bee approaching them. "Katie, grab Misha and get on the roof," he said.

Katelynn nodded as she wrapped her left arm around Michelle before stretching her right arm to the top and grabbing a pipe while Doey grabbed the roof with both hands.

As the duo pulled themselves up, Cat-Bee reached the area and sniffed around. When the scanner finished, Michelle retracted the blue hand before Cat-Bee looked at the machine. "That was the last one..." she whispered.

The trio heard an alarm before the cables turned green, which made them look at the opening. Cat-Bee looked around, growling, before walking away and entering the vent, which made the trio sigh in relief. "Time to leave this place," Doey said.

When the duo got on the upper floor, Katelynn placed Michelle on the ground before they followed the green cable.
