Chapter 79 - Fear

Inside Home Sweet Home, a young Michelle followed a young Kevin and a young Katelynn. Michelle looked at Katelynn. "Now, can you tell me what you wanted to show me?" she asked.

Katelynn slightly pouted at Michelle. "That would ruin the surprise, Big Sister; we don't want that..." she said.

Kevin slightly grinned at Michelle. "Uh oh, you've made her pout..." he said.

Michelle sighed with a slight smile and held her hands up in surrender. "Alright, alright, I'll stop asking," she said.

Katelynn giggled a bit as she looked forward; a young boy with brown hair holding a Boxy Boo toy ran out of the room and sprinted forward before a different boy was chasing him. "You gotta be quicker than that!" the boy holding the toy shouted.

Unbeknownst to the brown-haired boy, he bumped into Michelle, which made them fall toward the ground in different directions, and he lost his grip on his Boxy Boo toy.

The siblings looked at the duo, shocked, as the brown-haired boy hit the ground. "Misha!" Kevin shouted.

After Michelle hit the ground against her back, the Boxy Boo toy landed on her face. When Michelle opened her eyes and saw the Boxy Boo toy on her face, her eyes widened, and she screamed before quickly grabbing it and throwing it at the opposite wall hard.

The brown-haired boy sat up and looked at Michelle as she sat up and leaned her back against the wall before wrapping her arms around herself. "Hey! Why d'you do that?!" he shouted. "Boxy didn't do anything to you!"

Kevin glared at the brown-haired boy, which made him flinch. "Well, next time, watch where you're going or someone else will throw your toy at the wall or destroy it," he said.

The brown-haired boy nervously glanced away and quickly got up. "R-Right..." he said, lowly, as he approached his Boxy Boo toy and picked it up. "Sorry..."

As the brown-haired boy walked toward his friend, Kevin looked at Michelle and noticed she was trembling and trying to control her breathing, which shocked him. "Misha?" he asked.

Katelynn approached Michelle and placed her hand on her knee, concerned. "You OK, Big Sister?" she asked.

Michelle flinched and looked at the siblings before quickly nodding and letting go of her arms. "Y-Yeah..." she said before standing up. "I'm fine..."

Kevin stared at Michelle, concerned. "Are you... afraid of Boxy Boo?" he asked.

Michelle flinched and looked away, uncomfortable; Katelynn held her hand, which made her look at her. "It's OK to say in front of us," she said.

Michelle looked at the siblings before sighing and looking down. "His face scared me when I was a baby... and I've had a fear of him ever since..." she said.

Kevin hummed a bit. "I can't say I blame you; the only time someone got a Boxy Boo toy was from someone in Playcare or someone in your orphanage," he said. "His face is kinda scary..."

Michelle frowned and looked away; Katelynn noticed and panicked a bit. "Oh no, you're sad; I know what'll cheer you up," she said before running to the right.

Kevin looked at Katelynn. "Hey, be careful; don't bump into any people," he said.

When Katelynn was out of sight, Kevin glanced at Michelle before slowly approaching her. When Kevin was close to Michelle, he held her hand behind his back, which surprised her.

When Michelle looked at Kevin, he turned his head away with a slight blush on his cheeks. "If something like that happens again, I'll protect you..." he said, lowly.

Michelle stared at Kevin with a slight blush before smiling. "Thanks, Kev," she said.

Kevin smiled a bit until he spotted Katelynn with her arms behind her back, which made him let go of Michelle's hand. When Katelynn was close to the duo, she faced Michelle. "Whenever I get scared, this little guy helps me," she said.

Katelynn pulled her hands away from her back before holding out a chihuahua-like toy with maroon fur on most of its body, brown fur around its mouth, and pinkish-red fur on its belly, to Michelle, smiling.

Michelle looked at the chihuahua-like toy, surprised, before holding her hands out; soon after, she placed her hands under their arms, which made Katelynn let go. Michelle brought the chihuahua-like toy close to her. "This is the toy you wanted to show me?" she asked.

Katelynn nodded. "He's supposed to be the protector of all the children," she said.

Michelle stared at the chihuahua-like toy before smiling and petting its head. "He's really cute," she said.

Katelynn smiled as Michelle held the chihuahua-like toy out to her, which made her take it. "Now c'mon, let's play in my room," she said before walking forward.

Michelle giggled a bit. "Alright, alright..." she said before following Katelynn.

Kevin slightly smiled at the duo. Nice work, little sister; you keep her happy, while I keep her safe... he thought before following them.

...

...

...

Inside the room, Boxy Boo slammed his hand against the metal door before roaring at the glass. The group stared at the door as Boxy Boo started slamming his body against it. "Oh, come on! Of all places, Boxy just had to show up!" KickinChicken shouted.

Hoppy Hopscotch nodded. "There's no way we can beat him; even with all of our strength, he'll kill us!" she shouted.

Bobby BearHug looked at some of the larger Smiling Critters as they carried some of the smaller toys in their arms, while a few others were riding on Pianosaurus's, PJ Pug-A-Pillar's, and Yarnaby's backs. "Not to mention that we have smaller toys with us," she said. "Our top priority is keeping them safe."

When Doey looked at Michelle, he noticed she was mortified and trying to control her breathing, which concerned him. "Misha?" he asked.

Boxy Boo dug his claws into the door, which sucked the Red Smoke out of the room, before he started bending the top corner of the metal door. "Then what can we do?" Katelynn asked.

When Boxy Boo entered the room and roared, the large door behind the group opened, which made them turn to it. "We run!!" Michelle shouted.

The group went through the opening before running away, which made Boxy Boo follow them. After the group turned left, they went through a large busted hole and climbed a ramp; when they were on the other side, the ramp broke.

The group turned to the hole on the other side and saw Boxy Boo shoot his arm through the hole, which made their eyes widen.

Boxy Boo attempted to grab someone from the group until he quickly retracted it before some scrap metal covered it, which made them sigh in relief. Michelle looked at the hole next to the group. "Come on," she said before crouching and going through it.

The others nodded before they crouched and followed Michelle; when she looked down, her eyes widened when she saw Boxy Boo walking forward. "Damn it... why is he still here..." she said, lowly.

Poppy looked at Michelle, concerned. "Are you alright?" she asked, which made her flinch.

Michelle looked at the group with a slightly nervous smile. "Y-Yeah, I'm... totally fine..." she said before crawling forward. "We should, uh... keep moving..."

The group looked at Michelle, concerned, before nodding and following her. Michelle looked at Boxy Boo while moving forward with gritted teeth. Of course, the one toy I fear the most had to come after us, she thought. Why couldn't he just be dead?

As Michelle placed her foot on the metal platform, it started moving down, which made her look at it in a panic. "Oh no..." she said, lowly.

Soon after, the ground under the group broke, which made them land on a conveyor belt; Boxy Boo turned to them and roared.

The group looked forward and saw moving crushers as Boxy Boo attempted to break the glass. "Keep moving!" Michelle shouted before sprinting forward.

After Michelle got past the first crusher, she tried moving back while the conveyor belt moved forward before the second crusher went down. After the second crusher was raised, Michelle moved forward and noticed some bent scrap metal.

After the larger toys destroyed the crushers, Michelle aimed her arms at the scrap metal before the blue hand and the Omni-Hand shot from her wrists. The hands grabbed the scrap metal before Michelle pulled it off.

After the hands retracted to Michelle's wrists, she went through the opening before going through a gap between two large pipes. When Michelle reached the other side, she spotted another piece of scrap metal before aiming her arms again.

The blue hand and the Omni-Hand shot from Michelle's wrists and grabbed the scrap metal before she pulled it off. After the rest of the group caught up with Michelle, they sprinted through the pipe as Boxy Boo destroyed the glass and followed them.

When the group was near the end, they turned right before turning left and climbing a ramp. Soon after, the group got on another conveyor belt and moved forward. Michelle spotted a blue hand scanner in a different room through broken glass before aiming her left arm at it.

The blue hand shot from Michelle's wrist and touched the scanner. When the scanner finished, the path before the group opened, prompting them to move forward and go down the slope.

The group turned right before entering another hallway. Soon after, the group got on another conveyor belt moving against them before they tried running forward.

When the group reached an opening, they saw a vent on the other side of the hallway. "Through here!" Michelle shouted. "Let the ones holding the smaller toys go in first!"

As some of the larger toys holding the smaller toys entered the vent, Boxy Boo reached the opening, which made Michelle's eyes widen and look at the others. "Move now!!" she shouted.

As the rest of the group entered, Boxy Boo charged them; as Michelle entered the vent, he hit her, which made her yelp a bit and push her forward.

After Michelle landed on the lower part of the vent, she tried to catch her breath and looked at Boxy Boo's arm above her, swinging around, before he retracted it back to the opening. "I need to get away, now," she said before crouching and going through the small opening.

Michelle turned right and looked around the vent, slightly worried. "Hopefully the others are alright..." she said, lowly, before turning right again.

As Michelle walked forward, she fell into a hole, which made her yelp and hit part of the vent. Soon after, Michelle started sliding down, which made her look forward, panicking. "Well, that's just great!" she shouted before screaming a bit.

When Michelle slid near the opening, she saw an orange dough arm and a yellow dough arm at the end before they caught her. Doey lowered his arms before placing Michelle on the ground. "Are you alright?" he asked.

Michelle looked at Doey. "Oh, besides the giant jack-in-the-box toy chasing us, I'm doing just fine," she said.

Doey stared at Michelle before his eyes softened. "You still fear him, don't you?" he asked, which made her flinch.

The rest of the group looked at Michelle, concerned, before she sighed and looked away. "Yes, I still do..." she said, lowly, as she held her left arm. "Every time I try to overcome it, it never works..."

Mommy Long Legs frowned a bit. "Oh, my poor little Misha, it's OK..." she said as she stretched her right arm and petted Michelle's head with her finger. "It's normal to have a fear."

Michelle held Mommy Long Legs's finger in both of her hands before looking at her. "Yeah, but I shouldn't display it every single time I see him. It..." she said before sighing and looking down. "It makes me feel like I'm a coward..."

DogDay looked at Michelle. "You're far from a coward, Misha," he said.

Michelle glanced at DogDay. "True cowards avoid responsibility and let their fears control their actions," he continued. "Even though your biggest fear was chasing us, you still acted for the good of the group. Acknowledging your fear is a sign of strength, not weakness."

The others nodded in agreement, which made Michelle smile. "Thank you, everyone..." she said.

Michelle looked at the large window on her left side before approaching it. When Michelle was close to the window, she looked through it and saw a large structure in the distance. "What is that?" she asked.

Most of the group looked through the window. "It looks like some kind of village," Bunzo Bunny said.

CatNap stared at the large structure before looking down with a hum. "I wonder..." he said, lowly.

When Yarnaby approached the table at the back, he spotted a note before roaring a bit, which made the group look at him. "Did you find something, buddy?" Michelle asked before approaching him.

When Michelle was close to Yarnaby, she spotted the note on the table before smiling a bit and petting his head. "Good boy," she said, which made him purr.

After Michelle stopped petting Yarnaby, she picked up the note and looked at it. Soon after, Michelle clenched the paper. "It seems like whoever sent this letter made a deal with the Prototype," she said. "They basically sold their souls to the devil."

Michelle placed the note on the table before looking at the group. "We should keep moving," she said.

The group nodded before walking forward; when Michelle stepped on the slightly broken piece, it broke under her, which shocked her and the group.

The air jets on Michelle's braces activated, which slowed her fall before she landed on the ground, which made her sigh a bit. "Nice..." she said, lowly, before walking forward.

After the group jumped toward the lower ground, they walked forward while looking around. Michelle looked at the roof and spotted a banner of a smiling doll-like toy with large purple braided hair in a chignon-like style and a bang hanging out from her forehead, oval-shaped eyes with black irises, and curved eyelashes.

The doll on the banner wore a purple T-shirt and black suspenders with a star embroidered on her front pocket and flowing out like a skirt. "A Lily Lovebraids banner..." Michelle said, lowly.

CraftyCorn shuddered at the name. "I really hope we don't encounter her..." she said, lowly.

Michelle looked at CraftyCorn. "Why's that?" she asked.

CraftyCorn looked down and tapped her hooves while a few of the mini Smiling Critters she held looked at her. "Well, uh... how can I say this without being rude..." she said, lowly.

PickyPiggy looked at Michelle. "She's a psychotic bitch that could give Mommy a run for her money," she said.

Mommy Long Legs sternly looked at PickyPiggy. "How insulting," she said before looking down. "Though... you aren't far off..."

Michelle hummed a bit. "I see..." she said, lowly.

Soon after, the group spotted a large gap. "I've got this," Doey said before stepping forward.

When Doey stood on the edge, he stretched the upper half of his body toward the other side. When Doey grabbed the ledge, he formed himself into a large bridge. "You're good," he said.

The group got on Doey's back before walking forward; as Michelle looked around, she spotted a pink and yellow gel-like substance on the top left corner of the wall. "What is that stuff?" she asked.

After the group reached the other side and Doey reformed, Michelle spotted the gel-like substance on the wall approaching it.

When Michelle was close to the wall, she held her right hand out to the gel-like substance; before she touched it, Poppy looked at her. "Don't touch that!" she shouted.

Michelle flinched and pulled her hand back a bit before she and most of the group looked at Poppy. "How come?" she asked.

Poppy looked down. "That substance... is really harmful to humans..." she said before looking at the gel-like substance. "I believe the scientists called it Poppy Gel."

Michelle stared at Poppy before looking at the Poppy Gel. Is this the same stuff the company used to revive a dead rat from that note in Mr. Elliot's office? she thought.

Michelle nodded and lowered her arm before stepping away from the Poppy Gel. "Alright, thanks for the warning," she said, which made Poppy nod, before the group walked forward.
