Chapter 100 - Haunting Past

TW - Panic Attack

---

After Michelle reached the top of the stairs, the others approached her before going to the left. When the group was close to the room with the large pirate ship, they noticed the Red Smoke was gone. "Now, how do we get inside?" Mommy Long Legs asked.

CatNap thought of something. "I have an idea," he said before looking at Doey and Katelynn. "Though I might need some assistance with this."

Doey nodded while Katelynn smiled. "You can count on us!" she shouted.

CatNap nodded and looked at the glass before lifting his right paw. A claw extended from one of CatNap's fingers before placing it on the glass.

CatNap dragged his claw on the glass, which made most of the group cover their ears, while Yarnaby whimpered at the sound until he made a large circle.

CatNap pulled his paw away and retracted his claw, which made most of the group uncover their ears and look at the large circle. "You two are up," he said before stepping back.

Doey and Katelynn looked at one another and nodded before they shot their arms at the circle, sticking them in place. The duo pulled the circle with slight struggles before pulling it out of the frame. "We got it!" Doey shouted.

As the duo laid the large glass circle against the wall, Michelle smiled. "That's very smart, and with it still being solid, we won't have to worry about stepping on it," she said.

CatNap had happy eyes and bowed his head. "I aim to please, Angel," he said.

Michelle approached the hole. "I'll grab the memory disk," she said as she got on the frame.

After Michelle went through the large hole and got inside the room, she approached the memory disk and picked it up in her left hand. "You're the last one we need," she said.

When Michelle turned her head to the left, she spotted a purple cassette tape on the arm of a Kissy Missy chair, which surprised her. "Well, what do we have here?" she asked herself before approaching it.

When Michelle was close to the Kissy Missy chair, she picked up the cassette tape and examined it. Soon after, Michelle saw the word 'Proposition' on it. "Proposition...?" she asked herself before approaching the hole and getting on the frame.

When Michelle went through the hole and landed on the ground, she looked at the group and held the cassette tape out. "Found a cassette tape too; I might need somebody to put it in for me," she said.

Katelynn lit up and approached Michelle. "I can put it in for you, Big Sister," she said.

Michelle nodded as she held the cassette tape out to Katelynn, which made her take it. Michelle pressed the white part of Glowby, opening the back of it.

After Katelynn placed the cassette tape inside, Michelle closed the white part of Glowby before looking at them. "What do you have for us?" she asked.

When Michelle pressed the play button, the group heard humming, which shocked them. "That humming... it almost sounds like..." Doey said, lowly.

Michelle stared at Glowby, shocked. "My lullaby..." she said, lowly.

Soon after, the group heard a creak, which made the humming stop. "Oh, Mr. Ludwig, I apologize if my humming disturbed you," the man said.

The group was shocked. "Oh, not at all; in fact, it sounded very lovely," Elliot said.

"Ah, thank you... my wife, Melissa... she would sing this lullaby to our daughter so she could sleep," the man said.

"Ah, yes, I remember you saying that your wife called in absent for a vaccination appointment," Elliot said. "If I may ask, how old is your daughter?"

The group stared at Glowby. "Around two months," the man said.

"And you would do anything for your child, right?" Elliot asked.

"Yes, sir, I would do anything to make my daughter happy," the man said.

"Even granting her eternal life?" Elliot asked.

The group's eyes widened. "Uh... what do you mean by that, sir?" the man asked.

"I believe I've come up with something incredible... a way where your child won't have to suffer; immortality in toy form," Elliot said. "However... I haven't tested it yet."

The group stared at Glowby, mortified. "I-Immortality; sir, that's—" Elliot interrupted the man. "I understand the insanity of the idea, but it's a choice... your choice."

The toys growled a bit. "If you're interested, you and your wife should come to my office with your bundle of joy in your arms, and we can get started. If not, just go about your day, and I'll never bring this conversation up with you again," Elliot continued.

"I'll... I'll think about it," the man said.

"Very well then; take as much time as you need, Doctor Martin Mercia," Elliot said.

Michelle stared at Glowby, mortified with widened eyes, before the cassette tape ended. "Martin... Mercia..." she said, lowly.

As the white part of Glowby opened, the group stared at it. "So... if that man had accepted Mr. Ludwig's offer, the Prototype wouldn't have existed..." Katelynn said.

CatNap looked away. "Maybe... that would all depend on whether the child depicted herself as one," he said.

Mommy Long Legs looked down. "But still... that man..." she said, lowly.

The group heard something drop on the ground, which made their eyes widen. When the group turned their heads to the source, they saw Michelle staring at Glowby, hyperventilating with tears falling from her eyes, and the memory disk on the ground.

When Michelle started falling backward, Yarnaby quickly got behind her, which made her wrap her arm around him while hyperventilating, before he lay on the ground.

The group surrounded Michelle. "Hey, hey, it's OK—" before Doey could finish his sentence, she quickly shook her head. "I-It's not OK..."

Michelle pulled the cassette tape out of Glowby and looked at it, trembling. "Th-That man..." she continued as she gasped a bit before clenching it. "H-He and I-I... h-he and I-I..."

Kevin quickly split from Doey before kneeling before Michelle and carefully placing his hands against her shoulders. "Misha... breathe..." he said.

Michelle stared at Kevin while making convulsive gasps before closing her eyes and taking a deep breath, then shakily exhaling. "There we go..." he continued. "Just focus on your breathing, then you can talk..."

Michelle took a deep breath before exhaling; when she calmed down, she opened her eyes and looked at the cassette tape. "That man on the tape... had my last name..." she said.

Most of the group remained silent. "Yeah... that man did..." Kevin said.

Michelle stared at the cassette tape. "That man... is related to me..." she said.

Kevin nodded. "That would be a good assumption," he said.

Michelle clenched the cassette tape and looked at Kevin. "How are you this calm with me?!" she shouted. "The man on that tape may be my father!"

Michelle looked down and trembled. "And the woman he mentioned... she may be my mom..." she continued as tears pricked her eyes. "And both of them... worked at this company. They sent me to the orphanage... and both of them were responsible for all of you..."

The group remained silent until CatNap looked at Michelle. "If that were the case, we would've recognized your last name in an instant," he said, which made her freeze up.

Mommy Long Legs nodded. "He's right; the only person I know with Mercia as their last name would be you, my little Misha," she said.

Huggy Wuggy rubbed his head. "Huggy no remember man named Martin or woman named Melissa," he said.

Katelynn nodded. "And we would've recognized someone with your last name, too, when Playcare was still running," she said.

Kevin nodded. "Those two may have made you, but you aren't them; you are your own person," he said. "One of the kindest, most reliable people I know... and the one who captivated my heart the moment you defended my character..."

Michelle slowly looked at Kevin. "In my eyes, you're way better than them," he continued. "I don't care if your parents worked at this company or if they were the biggest assholes in the world... you weren't responsible for what they did to us. Those were your parents' mistakes, not yours..."

Michelle stared at Kevin before giggling a bit with tears falling from her eyes. "All of you are too kind to me... even after finding out the truth about my parents..." she said. "It feels like it's something I don't deserve..."

Kevin frowned and hugged Michelle while petting her head, while she cried on his shoulder and clung to him. Yarnaby whimpered as he rubbed his head against the couple. The others frowned and gathered around the trio and consoled Michelle.

When Michelle stopped crying and wiped her tears away with her left hand, she looked at the cassette tape in her right hand. Kevin pulled away and looked at Michelle. "What do you want to do with that cassette tape?" he asked.

Michelle stared at the cassette tape before closing her eyes and holding it out to Kevin. "We hold onto this," she said.

The group was shocked. "You sure?" Kevin asked.

Michelle opened her eyes and nodded. "Even though I have... mixed feelings about it, this is evidence to expose Mr. Ludwig's crimes," she said before looking at the group, determined. "We need all the evidence we can get once we're out of this place."

Kevin stared at Michelle before nodding. "Very well," he said as he grabbed the cassette tape before it went inside him.

Michelle looked at the memory disk before grabbing it with her left hand. After the trio stood up, Michelle looked at the others. "Time to see what's in this memory disk," she said; the group nodded before going down the stairs.
