An orb bounced from the ceiling.
The royal guard saw it coming.
Unlike the feral demons upstairs, he didn't stare stupidly at the approaching black sphere or attempt to slap it away. His sword immediately swept upward, royal energy coating the blade as he sliced straight through the orb.
The explosion swallowed his upper body.
He emerged from the smoke almost immediately.
His armor was scorched, but intact.
Lux's eyebrows rose.

Competent employees.
The second orb came from behind.
The guard sensed it, spun, and erected a crimson shield.
Unfortunately, Lux's Demonic Orbs weren't exactly known for respecting dignity.
The sphere struck the ceiling.
Bounced off.
Hit the floor.
Changed direction.
And slammed directly into the guard's ass.
-BOOM!
The explosion launched him forward.
