Chapter 662 - Chapter 662: The Savage Land

Bullseye's original intention, of course, was not to send Peter and Kitty away—or rather, the "sending away" he had planned was of a much more permanent nature.

Since Otto had already provided Kingpin with sufficient intelligence regarding Spider-Man, Kingpin knew that Peter possessed a supernatural perception that allowed him to sense danger. Consequently, Bullseye's target was Kitty; he had already deduced that Shadowcat's intangibility required conscious activation.

Thus, as long as he caught her off guard, there was a chance to eliminate her.

However, Peter's Spider-Sense had long since evolved; even if Bullseye had actually thrown something, it wouldn't have been an issue. The problem lay in the fact that Logan spotted Bullseye's movement in time and let out a roar—causing Kitty to instinctively activate her powers. As a result, both she and Peter were sucked into a place they couldn't begin to identify.

The two of them suddenly appeared high in the sky, hurtling toward the ground. Peter first attempted to open a portal using his Sling Ring, but it failed. He stuffed the ring back into his pocket and looked straight down.

Below them was a dense forest. Quick as a flash, Peter lunged toward Kitty, catching her in mid-air. He then toggled his suit into its armored Iron Spider mode, relying on the anti-gravity system to land safely on the ground.

"I thought you'd be screaming halfway down."

"I was a little nervous, but the training scenarios in the Danger Room are much scarier than this—"

After Peter set her down, Kitty brushed back her disheveled hair and looked around, seemingly realizing what had happened. "That portal brought us here?"

"Yeah. The Hand uses Norn Stones for teleportation. Those stones are a specialty of Nornheim in Asgard. Now it seems that even if we can't confirm Hydra's involvement yet, Roxxon Energy is definitely connected to the Hand. After all, they'd need to collaborate with Malekith to get their hands on Norn Stones."

It was no wonder Peter and the others hadn't been able to find the Hand's base. Their headquarters could easily be located outside of New York or completely isolated physically; they only needed that device to activate the Norn Stones, and the Hand—or rather, Hydra—could link up with any location in the world.

Kitty hesitated, her words caught in her throat. She knew that their accidental arrival here was entirely because she had reacted to Logan's warning by choosing to phase through the attack. Otherwise, Peter would have been fully capable of pulling her out of harm's way.

Yet, Peter didn't mention it at all.

Taking the hint, Kitty chose to move past it as well, turning her attention to the lush forest surrounding them. The trees here were unnervingly tall, unlike anything she had ever seen. "Where are we?"

"I don't know. I originally thought we'd end up in some ninja village or a secret Hydra base, but this looks like a deserted island. Plus, teleportation magic is failing, and I can't reach the Avengers' satellites—"

Considering the rumors surrounding Norn Stones, Peter briefly wondered if he and Kitty had been transported to another universe. However, his Multiverse Travel Watch (now integrated into the storage unit of his nano-suit) indicated they were still in Universe 616.

This meant there was a high probability that this was simply one of Hydra's secret sites. Given the way the portal had opened, it likely wasn't a trap intentionally set by Hydra either.

There was no need to worry about the Avengers' side of things. Since he was missing, they could simply ask Cindy. Cindy would be able to sense if he was still alive and whether he was still in this universe. If the distance wasn't too great, she might even sense his exact location.

Therefore, they certainly knew he was alive, and by extension, they likely knew Kitty was safe as well.

"As for our general location, it shouldn't be too hard to deduce. We just need to analyze the vegetation to determine our coordinates—"

Peter stopped mid-sentence. Kitty, who had been surveying the area, noticed his pause and looked over curiously. "What's wrong?"

"These trees—these aren't actually trees. Or at least, not what we consider trees. These are woody ferns, and they aren't the Cyathea species currently found on Earth—"

Peter glanced at a tree nearby. Its height reached over sixty meters, far exceeding the normal height of modern ferns. Not only that, but the other surrounding plants were equally peculiar.

For a moment, Peter suspected he and Kitty had traveled back tens of millions of years. But the problem was, his suit's sensors showed that the oxygen levels were perfectly normal. The era shouldn't have changed, and he had never heard of Norn Stones having the power to traverse time.

"Then we're in—"

"Wait a second. I need to find some high ground to get a look. I'll climb up and check."

Peter quickly swung up to the canopy using his webs. From the very top of the tallest tree, he scanned the horizon and spotted a massive mountain peak in the distance. The entire peak had been carved into the shape of the Hydra insignia.

"Well, this godforsaken place is a Hydra base. Regardless of whether we've traveled back millions of years, as long as we punch our way through these Hydra goons, we'll definitely be able to go home."

As Peter spoke, he began observing the surrounding area. He realized his initial estimation of the region's size was completely wrong. According to the suit's measurements, the land stretched over a hundred kilometers in every direction without a visible coastline. In other words, this place was at least a massive island-continent.

Peter had a general idea of where they were, but he needed more evidence. His suit continued its scans and analysis, finally picking up a distant roar and capturing clear visual proof.

"Is it because of low oxygen? That dinosaur is only about four meters tall—much shorter than I imagined."

Muttering to himself, Peter dropped back to the ground. Kitty rushed forward to ask for an update, and Peter told her everything, integrating the other pieces of intelligence he possessed into his analysis.

"This continent should be the legendary Savage Land. It escaped the cataclysm sixty-five million years ago completely unscathed, preserving the world as it was back then—dinosaurs, plants, and all—"

Peter didn't get to finish his explanation because Kitty had already started cheering. It turned out dinosaurs were quite popular after all.

"Wait, then why hasn't anyone discovered this place?"

"Hydra must have hidden it. Teleportation magic fails here, signals are cut off, and with that Hydra Mountain in the distance, I'm basically certain now—the Hand works for Hydra."

It was no wonder Hydra had been able to rebuild its strength so rapidly after World War II. It turned out they had an entire continent serving as their logistical supply base.

"Well then, it looks like it's time for us to explore this Savage Land."
