Chapter Text

Three moons later…

"Lo there do I see my father.

Lo there do I see my mother.

Lo there do I see my brothers and my sisters.

Lo there do I see the line of my people back to the beginning.

Lo they do call to me;

they bid me take my place among them in the Halls of Valhalla, where the brave may live forever."

"Will you quiet down?" Havi told the princess, who kept repeating the same poem she had memorized, now actually singing once she found a suitable rhythm.

"Nope. Hey, I wanted to ask you something."

"What is it?" he asked curiously.

"I feel like my body is changing somehow to resemble yours. Like, really, even the eyes. You're taking over everything. Am I going to have to grow a beard now? Is that possible? I hope not; it'd surely make me look ugly," she said, slightly offending him.

"What's wrong with looking like me? I will have you know that I was one of the handsomest gods to grace the nine realms, save for Baldur, of course—no one could match his beauty and light. I don't think you'd grow a beard, though, and even if you did, your Valyrian heritage would stop you from having one as big as mine," he answered honestly.

"Really?"

"Yes, really. Believe me, that is not the first time a girl ever asked me if she was going to grow a beard. Thrúd annoyed me and her father about it. The fool told her that she would have one when she grew up. She was devastated when she didn't."

Rhaenyra laughed heartily at that.

Once the king's wedding had passed, she left immediately the next day to retrieve the lost weapons. Huginn had already returned, having scouted the seven kingdoms and all there was to see, save for beyond the wall, under five moons. Now it was so much easier to travel; it was one of the best perks of being the Raven God. Now Huginn and Muninn would circle her with their duplicates and transfer her to any place of her choosing. She had always tried it with Dragonstone. They teleported her from the Red Keep to her ancestral seat in 15 seconds. It was astonishing and very efficient.

Still, she chose to fly with Syrax so she could see the skies and the houses with her own eyes. It was very adventurous and exciting. While her Uncle Daemon was wreaking havoc in the Stepstones with an angry, humiliated Corlys Velaryon—so upset at his house being ignored once again for the Hightowers—she was doing what she always wanted, but alone. This joy was only going to last for a while, a few moons at least.

Havi had refused her offer of staying in some of the houses that would gladly welcome her as a guest, finally having the chance to teach her how to hunt. She cried when she had to shoot a deer and then end its misery with her dagger. She cried even more when she skinned it for its pelt and meat. The Lord of Asgard didn't judge her, knowing full well that she was barely a child thrust into an unfair world where only the strong survived. He didn't want to ruin her kindness or innocence, but he had no choice. That was the way of this world.

She didn't speak much after making her first kill, but she held herself well on her second hunt, after Odin made her understand it was how life was and how most peasants lived. It was the only way for survival. It was somewhat of a wake-up call on her much-spoiled attitude. She was born and raised in luxury, a Targaryen princess and the heir of a king. Her life was advantageous, and she should be grateful. Hunting was a normal part of nature's cycle, to live and survive.

After that, hunting to eat became much easier to endure. She was only trying to survive. Thankfully, Storm's End, the seat of the Baratheons, wasn't far from the capital, but she did take her sweet time getting there, almost sure Mjolnir was there, which turned into a great disappointment. They looked everywhere where lightning would and might appear. Hell, she had Lord Borros Baratheon extend her an invitation, and she flat out refused, saying she had business to do before going to war.

The man couldn't be offended after she made that excuse. She was beyond disappointed, regretting ever wasting three whole days. If she hadn't, she'd probably be in the North looking for the damned hammer.

The next destination was quite clear: Highgarden. It only took a day for her to fly there. Not wanting to get invited by another house, she told Syrax to stay behind while she looked for the sword. She sensed it; it was very close. The Aesir magic was drawing in only the Vanir weapon. Flying as a raven was freeing and had its advantages. She followed that sense, flying by herself, leaving the raven brothers behind with Syrax to keep her company. It was a good thing they got along so well now.

The closer she got to the Tyrell castle, the more magic she felt. The gardens were so beautiful, the smells drawing her in, sweeter than anything she had ever smelled before. The trees were so green and wonderful, a wonderful place to nap. There weren't many people in the gardens, only a few maids and flower knights. She remained stationed on a high wall, hiding in plain sight, which proved fruitless as one lady spotted her and started calling out to the pretty raven, wanting to pet it. She rolled her eyes as best as she could as a bird, more annoyed as more people started to take notice of her presence, patiently waiting for the place to be empty so she could return to her body.

It took five candle marks for the night to come. She napped on the wall during that time, the first time this ever happened to her. She flew down and shifted, stretching her limbs.

"I can't believe that just happened. Now I know what poor Huginn and Muninn have to deal with. I don't wish that on anyone," she told Havi.

"They are used to their forms, and you will be too."

"I very much don't believe so. Now let's find the damn thing and get out. The flowers are making me want to sleep more now."

She began searching fanatically. She even climbed the tree, thinking the sword was stuck in one of them. She sat down quite exhausted from that. The magic was very powerful, and the sword wanted to be found, calling out to them.

The sight of a beautiful flower decorating the garden caught her gaze, one she had never seen before. She thought for a moment that she could gift it to Alicent, but they were over now, and it was unfair to confuse her. Maybe she could give it to Laena? Yeah, she'd like it very much. She bent down, picking it, only for a surge of magic to twirl around it, changing the flower into another shape. When the beautiful light caused by magic ceased, a sword was gripped in her hands, one with gold and green runes decorating it, so beautiful.

Havi laughed so hard at this. Freyr was always a romantic. Of course, his sword would be one too, a true form of love and affection, a declaration of sentiments—a flower, the most beautiful one. Rhaenyra and Havi both decided it was always meant for Laena to have. A gift suitable for a lady. A goddess.

Notes:

So sorry this chapter is shorter than usual, I stayed up late last night after watching the Boxing Matches of the olympics, and then today I spent almost 5 hours at the Townhouse, fighting with stupid clerks to let me get my mother a birth certificate so she could renew her driver's license.

They fucking refused saying I could do something illegal with it, like wtf the woman has a job and can't come and what could I possibly do with HER birth certificate?? I got the damn thing eventually after fighting the clerk an shouting at her a bit.

I swear I'm not mean people in my country are just stupid, and only understand force, Townhouse is filled with a bunch of morons no wonder our minister of defence is in talks of installing military officers at places like these to ensure citizens get served properly.

Sorry for the long rant I'm just pissed off that I waster hours where I could've done used them probably writing or filling my applications.

Rhaenyra is getting along with her companions, the Tyrell girls love pretty things and now for sure are going to talk about the pretty gold Raven they found lurking in their garden. Mjolnir is somewhere far away but Rhae and Odin will get that stubborn hammer don't worry.

Till next time!
