Seeing Charlize's wide-eyed expression—so close it was practically filling his vision—Henry couldn't help but kiss her forehead.
"It's not as dangerous as you're imagining," he said gently.
"Think about Jen. Her advantage is her perspective and the level of people she interacts with. She has access to better information. That's how she finds you quality auditions and knows where to apply pressure to increase your chances.
"What Tony wants me to do is similar. I'm just an extra pair of eyes on the West Coast. Paying attention to certain wealthy circles. Nothing illegal. Nothing dangerous.
"No breaking into houses. No stealing documents. Even if Tony asked, I wouldn't do that. So you can relax."
He continued calmly,
"But you know my background. Someone like me doesn't just get accepted into that circle out of nowhere. So sometimes you need… a little maneuvering.
"Sure, the reputation isn't flattering. Let them gossip. Let them wait for me to fail like I'm a circus clown. It doesn't matter."
"So you're betting everything on Mr. Stark?" Charlize interpreted.
Henry laughed softly.
"I'm not Jewish. That's already a disadvantage in Hollywood. If I want to climb the ladder properly, I'd have to work twice as hard for half the recognition.
"And if I refuse to play the game at all, then I'd just be surviving under someone else's terms. You don't think that road is easier, do you?"
Charlize buried her face against his chest, thinking.
Henry spoke more seriously.
"I'm telling you this not because I need your help. And definitely not because I want you taking risks for me.
"If anything involving me comes up, come talk to me. Don't act based on what others tell you.
"You remember those 'casting agents' who claimed they could guarantee roles if actresses 'cooperated'?"
She nodded.
"Most of them had zero authority. Just names on paperwork. Using fake leverage to exploit people. Some even targeted male actors.
"That's what information imbalance does—it gets weaponized."
He brushed her hair back.
"So follow your plan. You and Jen have a rhythm. Keep climbing steadily as an actress.
"I'll support you where I can. And if anyone crosses your red line, you walk away. I'll handle the rest.
"Focus on what you're meant to do. That's the biggest help you can give me."
Charlize tilted her head slightly.
"Sometimes it feels like I'm your public cover. The distraction."
Henry chuckled.
"Depends how you look at it. I won't deny that your visibility helps. But helping Tony is incidental. I wouldn't even bother if it weren't for you.
"So protect yourself. Focus on your goals. The rest doesn't matter."
She nodded quietly.
After a moment, she added,
"But earlier you said climbing Hollywood the straight way is hard. Sometimes you need alternative routes. Isn't that the same for me?"
Henry shook his head.
"As long as we're excluding illegal or dirty deals, here's how I see it:
"If you want to follow the Golden Age model—always the leading lady, always the princess—it's possible. But in this era, that requires heavy backing. Like Nicole Kidman or Meg Ryan.
"And one or two box office failures? Capital drops you instantly."
He continued:
"I don't want you trapped in a single image.
"Lead roles—yes. Supporting roles—also yes.
"Action. Comedy. Horror. Romance. Thriller. If the project's good, do it.
"The broader your range, the longer your career lasts. Longevity beats princess status.
"We're here to make money—not to be adored as royalty for a decade and fade away."
Charlize frowned slightly.
"But if I appear too often, won't audiences get tired of me?"
"Only if you look the same every time," Henry replied.
"Don't be the actor who can't stand looking messy. Let audiences finish two films and only realize during the credits that it's the same person.
"That's success.
"You get paid twice. And no one calls you repetitive."
He grinned.
"Besides, anyone can look ugly. Looking stunning? That's rare. That's your advantage.
"Though admittedly, that means competing in a crowded field."
She narrowed her eyes playfully and grabbed him.
"Now I see where you're sneaky."
Henry laughed.
"Speaking of which—I do have a solid audition opportunity. Talk it over with Jen. If you're interested, the chances are good."
"What project?"
"1492 Pictures. Jingle All the Way. Christmas release. Arnold Schwarzenegger starring. Directed by Brian Levant."
She blinked.
"You think that's good?"
"Actually, Rita Wilson approached me directly. She said the film's very male-heavy. She's the only major female presence and wanted balance.
"There's a supporting police role that could be rewritten as female. Strong screen presence. Uniform. Big sunglasses."
Charlize tried to recall.
"Rita Wilson is…?"
"Tom Hanks' wife. They have two kids—one born last year. If she's reaching out, there's likely goodwill from Hanks behind it."
Charlize smirked slightly.
"Goodwill from Jewish Hollywood?"
Henry shrugged.
"At least they're not the predatory kind. If we're going to owe someone a favor, we should choose carefully."
She nodded.
"I'll talk to Jen and follow up."
Henry tightened his arms around her slightly.
Outside, Hollywood buzzed with rumors.
Inside, the game continued—
Quietly.
Strategically.
Exactly as intended
