"I do not watch the clouds anymore, Mailah," Grayson whispered softly, his fingers brushing against her warm skin. "I only watch you."
Mailah felt her heart give a heavy, sweet thud against her ribs. She leaned her shoulder into his broad chest, looking up at his sharp face. The dark blue of his eyes held a depth that always made the rest of the world fade away.
"You say things like that so easily," Mailah murmured, a small smile touching her lips. "Like you didn't spend three hundred years being a scary shadow lord."
"I was never scary," Grayson corrected smoothly, his tone deadpan as he resumed his slow, effortless rowing. "I was merely firm on boundaries. There is a distinct difference."
"Right. Boundaries," Mailah giggled softly. "Is that what you call threatening that poor man in the grocery store yesterday?"
"He was standing too close to the organic produce," Grayson stated without a single trace of regret.
