Chapter 6: The Power of the Shadow Legion!
As a Heroic Spirit, Leonidas' strength naturally far surpassed that of these magical beasts.
With his presence alone, there was no longer any doubt about holding the line during this chaos. All the magical beasts were successfully slaughtered. The fallen soldiers were buried with honor, while the corpses of the magical beasts were dismantled and processed.
The flesh of magical beasts contained Magical Energy. On top of that, this was the Age of Gods, where the Mana density in the air was incredibly high.
Without exaggeration, an ordinary human from the Age of Gods, if placed in the modern era, would become an existence approaching the upper limits of humanity. The gap was that vast.
In a world filled with mystery, Mana was equivalent to oxygen.
In ancient times, when dinosaurs ruled the earth, the oxygen concentration in the atmosphere was extremely high. During that era, dinosaurs were massive creatures, and even insects reached enormous sizes.
But in the modern age, the size of living beings could no longer compare to that time.
The difference between Mesopotamia and the modern world was like the difference between the age of dinosaurs and the present day.
In this world, even a newborn baby, if brought to the modern era, would be regarded as a rare genius with extraordinary Magical affinity. But here, such a child was nothing more than an ordinary human.
Floating in the air, Akira observed everything from above.
Watching the soldiers fight with everything they had, Akira felt a faint tremor in his heart. Inheriting memories and witnessing events firsthand were two completely different things.
Moved by that subtle emotion, Akira descended swiftly, landing on the battlefield near the North Wall.
"Hey, there's someone over there."
"I see him. But… that doesn't look like a human, right? He came down from the sky."
"From the sky? Could he be a god?"
"That's possible."
Conversations like these echoed across the North Wall again and again.
Flying, in the land of Mesopotamia, was an ability possessed only by certain gods. Ordinary humans, even powerful warriors, were completely incapable of such a feat.
"That presence… he's an extremely powerful warrior. Could he be a new Servant summoned by King Gilgamesh?"
Leonidas also noticed Akira's figure as he appeared on the battlefield against the magical beasts.
From the man's body, Leonidas felt an overwhelming pressure. It far exceeded his own, already standing on par with King Gilgamesh.
In this world, aside from summoned Servants, he truly couldn't imagine any other possibility.
At the same time, across the barren ground roughly a hundred meters away, the magical beasts halted their advance.
Every single pair of eyes locked onto Akira, their killing intent and savagery radiating openly.
Uridimmu and Mušhuššu, magical beasts produced in mass quantities.
Their sole will was to hunt humans and collect human corpses, because those were vital resources for their "Mother" to create more of their kind.
"Magical beasts may excel in numbers. Unfortunately for them… when it comes to numbers, I far surpass them."
With a faint smile on his face, in the very next second, the power of shadows began to stir.
The shadow beneath Akira's feet, which had been nothing more than a dark gray silhouette, suddenly changed—like clear water being touched by ink—instantly deepening into pitch black.
But that wasn't the end.
The shadow began to distort, then rapidly expanded outward.
One by one, shadow soldiers emerged from within it. Their numbers were vast—far beyond the number of magical beasts present.
And that wasn't all.
Their types were diverse.
The nine Shadow Legions made their debut on the land of Mesopotamia at this very moment.
One Uridimmu let out a ferocious roar and prepared to charge.
But in the next instant, a black scythe swept down from behind, slicing through its body in a single motion.
From head to tail, its body was cut cleanly in two with perfect precision, leaving two bloodied halves collapsing onto the ground.
Scenes like that unfolded across the entire battlefield.
Until now, magical beasts had always drowned their enemies with sheer numbers.
Today, they were the ones experiencing what it felt like to be "drowned."
Shadow soldiers of various forms began hunting the magical beasts in their own unique ways.
"Truly an astonishing ability. Summoning warriors from the shadows? I honestly have no idea from which era this great hero originates."
Standing atop the North Wall, Leonidas smiled broadly as he watched everything unfold.
As a general, of course he didn't want the soldiers under his command to keep dying, even if those deaths occurred on the battlefield.
But here at the North Wall, the final line of defense against the magical beasts, such losses were unavoidable. Every single day, someone fell.
Now, things were different. Because of the appearance of this unknown "Servant," the magical beasts could be annihilated, and his soldiers might survive this day.
One by one, Ninja Shadows darted through the swarms of magical beasts, constantly harassing and striking.
Razor Shadows, Sumo Shadows, Samurai Shadows, Crab Shadows, and Mantis Shadows used claws, fists, blades, pincers, and scythes as their weapons.
Squid Shadows utilized their unique traits to restrict the movement of the magical beasts.
Leech Shadows lurked in corners, waiting for opportunities to tear at the monsters' shadows, absorbing "nutrients" bit by bit, growing larger and larger until their size surpassed even the Sumo Shadows.
Meanwhile, the only aerial unit, the Bat Shadows, launched energy attacks from the sky.
This was a massacre.
The shadow soldiers did not fear death, and their numbers continued to increase without end.
Both sides relied on a "mass production" tactic for their forces, but clearly, the Shadow Legion held the upper hand.
In less than twenty minutes, the battle reached its conclusion.
All around, there was almost no trace of magical beasts left.
In terms of numerical warfare, Akira's advantage was absolute.
"Clean the battlefield, then withdraw."
Akira's command was issued calmly.
All shadow soldiers began returning to the Shadow Realm, dragging the corpses of the magical beasts along with them.
After all, the bodies of magical beasts contained Magic Power. If the Shadow Realm devoured them, it would strengthen the domain and, at the same time, enhance the Shadow Legion.
This scene left an immense impact on the soldiers of Uruk.
So a single person could be this powerful.
It was truly terrifying.
"Hello. I'm Leonidas. I'm currently in charge of the North Wall. Are you a new Servant summoned by King Gilgamesh?"
Nodding in satisfaction, Leonidas stepped out from behind the wall and approached Akira.
As everyone knew, in Sparta, the entire nation revered strength.
And as the King of Sparta, Leonidas was no exception.
Akira looked at Leonidas, the corner of his lips lifting slightly.
"Well then… the next step is to meet Gilgamesh."
