Chapter 66 - The Flame That Should Not Exist

The battlefield had gone quiet. Ash drifted slowly through the air, and the ground still burned in places, but the fight itself was over. Akuzai stood at the center, breathing heavily, staring at his hand.

The flames were still there.

That alone wasn't strange—but they weren't fading. They burned steadily, almost unnaturally calm. He frowned. "Why aren't you stopping?"

"Akuzai!" Anuj called out as he ran toward him, with Aditya, Abhishek, and Tanishk close behind. They slowed as they approached, sensing something was off.

Aditya looked at him carefully. "You okay?"

Akuzai didn't answer immediately. His eyes stayed fixed on the flames. "I… don't know."

That single sentence made all of them tense.

A wave of heat spread outward from him—not explosive, but strong enough to force them to step back. Abhishek narrowed his eyes. "That's not normal." Tanishk nodded slightly. "Yeah… something's wrong."

Akuzai clenched his fist. The flames reacted instantly, rising sharper, brighter—and for a brief moment, it felt like they resisted him. His expression changed. That shouldn't happen.

Inside his mind, everything went dark. Then, slowly, flames lit up the space around him—not wild, but controlled. A figure stood within them.

Same face. Same presence.

Akuzai took a step back. "…Who are you?"

The figure tilted his head slightly. "You finally noticed."The voice sounded like his—but older, heavier.

Akuzai's gaze hardened. "Answer me."

The figure stepped forward. "I'm the part of you… you never understood."

Outside, Akuzai's body went still. Anuj stepped closer. "Hey—say something." There was no response. Aditya lowered his voice. "He's not reacting…"

Inside, Akuzai shook his head. "No. I control this power."

The figure's faint smile didn't change. "You use it. That's different."

The flames around them shifted slightly. "You think this power started with you. It didn't."

Akuzai felt the weight of those words. "Then what are you?"

"The original."

Silence filled the space.

"The source of the Flameborn."

Outside, cracks formed under Akuzai's feet as heat built up again. Tanishk stepped back. "…We need to be ready." Abhishek nodded. "Just in case."

Inside, Akuzai's fists tightened. "I'm not letting you take control."

The figure didn't stop walking. "Then stop me."

For a moment, nothing moved.

Then both of them stepped forward at the same time.

The flames collided violently.

Outside, a pillar of energy shot into the sky, shaking the ground beneath them. The others watched in silence, unable to interfere.

Aditya spoke quietly, "He's fighting something…" Abhishek finished, "…inside himself."

The energy slowly began to fade. The flames lowered. The air grew still again.

Akuzai stood there, head lowered, completely motionless.

Tanishk stepped forward carefully. "…Akuzai?"

No response.

Then Akuzai lifted his head.

His eyes glowed—different from before. Deeper. Colder.

He looked at them, but there was no recognition.

"…So this is your world," he said calmly.

Anuj's expression tightened immediately. "…That's not him."

Akuzai smiled slightly, but it didn't feel right.

"…It's smaller than I expected."

No one moved.

Because in that moment, they all understood the same thing—

Akuzai was no longer alone inside his own body.

To be continued.
