"WHO?"
Hearing the sudden voice, Garrett and Sitwell felt as if something had yanked at their hearts. Yet, after scanning the area, they found no one suspicious.
The discovery left them stunned. As professional agents, both Garrett and Sitwell were certain that the words they heard were not a hallucination.
Once they calmed down, they realized something chilling: the voice had not come from outside—it had appeared directly in their minds.
They exchanged a glance, each seeing seriousness and fear reflected in the other's eyes.
Before either could react, two scorching beams of heat descended from above, instantly melting the ceiling overhead and striking Garrett and Sitwell. In an instant, the two agents were reduced to ashes. Their deaths were swift, painless, and absolute.
Clark had dispatched them so cleanly because he had deduced from their conversation that they were among Hydra's highest-ranking operatives within SHIELD.
With Garrett and Sitwell gone, Clark knew that Hydra's leadership inside SHIELD was effectively neutralized. In fact, he had no intention of waiting any longer. By this point, the Hydra members he had already identified within SHIELD outnumbered the agency's staff by over fifty.
Clark realized there was little reason to wait further. Once he located the primary messenger—Garrett—he intended to sweep the rest.
Without hesitation, Clark sent Garrett and Sitwell straight to hell with his heat vision. Then, he systematically eliminated every Hydra operative he could identify in the Triskelion.
After Clark's intense heat vision attack, the Triskelion was riddled with holes. Each hole was small, but so densely packed that even those with DC-verse phobias might feel a fresh wave of terror.
Clark's heat vision could detect temperatures in the tens of thousands, and for reinforced concrete, such force was more than enough.
"An enemy attack is still an enemy attack," he murmured.
The elite SHIELD agents were oblivious to Clark's assault, caught unaware by what seemed like ordinary destruction. Flying high and moving faster than any human reaction, Clark ensured that the Hydra operatives in the Triskelion didn't even realize the attacks were targeted at them. They simply turned to ash.
"Ugh…"
After eliminating all Hydra members in the Triskelion, Clark rubbed his eyes. He had never used his heat vision so intensely, and the strain left his eyes feeling overheated. Thankfully, exposure to sunlight quickly restored his vision.
Once recovered, Clark's gaze turned to the Hydra operatives aboard the three space carriers beneath the Triskelion.
Separated by the ocean, even Clark's multi-thousand-degree infrared heat vision could not strike these members as effectively as it did inside the Triskelion. Water absorbs heat rapidly, meaning his direct attacks could at most scorch the ocean, not the soldiers beneath it.
Still, Clark only needed to trigger a small accident to effortlessly eliminate the underwater Hydra forces.
Outside, SHIELD agents glimpsed a golden flash across the sky as Clark activated his solar flare mode. Extending his right hand, Clark swung it downward. A radiant golden wave, tinged with red, blue, and yellow, erupted from his hand and struck the ocean below.
Those hit by Clark's strike, like Calm, were crushed into deep concave depressions as if their bodies were jelly. The speed of his attack outpaced the water's reaction.
Within half a second, the strike pierced the ocean's surface and struck the seabed. The force displaced surrounding water, creating a channel hundreds of meters wide straight to the ocean floor.
BOOM.
The attack shattered tens of meters of seabed, revealing the SHIELD underwater base where three space carriers were under construction.
Though it seemed like a long time had passed, in reality it was just an instant. SHIELD agents only felt the ground tremble before seeing a massive hole form above their heads.
Seeing the hole, most immediately understood the impending disaster—and they were not disappointed.
As Clark's attack ended, ocean water violently rushed back into the massive crater he had created, nearly 500 tons per second, flooding the submarine base. The tremendous force destroyed everything in its path.
"Launch, launch!"
The Hydra members aboard the three space carriers shouted frantically, realizing that escape was now their only hope.
Yet, while they could normally control the ships individually, the first step for takeoff required opening the hatches above their heads.
Unfortunately for them, authority over the submarine base's systems—and thus the hatches—remained in the hands of the Triskelion.
