Chapter 14 - Escape

"One day? Do you think you're impressive for saying that or what? You can barely move properly, and you want to take the test tomorrow?"

"Don't worry. I think one day is enough to regain my strength."

"Why are you in such a hurry?"

Mohin sighed and said, "Listen, Lana. I've waited more than nine years to become a hunter. The opportunity was right in front of me, but I lost an entire week because I was unconscious. So I want to finish this quickly and begin my journey as a hunter."

"I know I'm late to ask, but why do you want to become a hunter, Mohin? For fame? For money?" Lana wondered.

Mohin said, "Because I saw Hunter Sai—"

"Don't lie to me, Mohin. Just tell me the truth," Lana interrupted him irritably.

Mohin fell silent for a moment.

Lana felt guilty, thinking her words had been harsh, and apologized, "I'm sorry, Mohin. If it's personal, you don't have to tell—"

"I wanted to know my origins," Mohin interrupted Lana's speech.

He paused for a moment and continued, "Ever since I was a child, I never knew my parents. Every day I ask myself: did they abandon me? Are they still alive? Why did I suffer from magic deprivation as a child? Why was my body in a terrible state every time I learned magic? Why was I left in front of an orphanage at the age of three with a little girl beside me? Every day at the orphanage, I tried to remember what happened to me in the first three years of my life, but I couldn't. Of course I couldn't—I wasn't conscious enough to think as a child. So I want to become a hunter, not to find my biological parents, but to show them that the child they abandoned has reached the top of the hunter world. And to prove to the world that even an orphan can become a miracle."

Then Mohin looked at his hands and said to himself, "And now I have hope to achieve this dream, thanks to my unique ability. Stealing skills."

"Alright then. But the test will be in two days, not one. To make sure you're fine," Lana replied, her voice trembling slightly.

---

Lana left the room, and on her way to her office, she said to herself, "I can't even imagine the life Mohin has suffered. Living without parents. Starting his childhood with magic deprivation, knowing that childhood is the most important beginning for any mage. The feeling of being abandoned by your parents... it's a feeling I never want to experience."

Lana entered the room where her desk was, along with several other desks for other female employees. She sat down, and her friend, who sat at the desk near her, noticed her and said, "What's wrong with you, Lana?"

"What do you mean, Til?" Lana replied.

"Why are you crying?"

Lana hadn't noticed that her eyes were tearing up. She said to Til, "I think I'll ask the chief for permission to go home."

"Why?"

"I'm not feeling well today. I remembered that I argued with my mother this morning, so I'll go home."

"That's strange."

Lana said to herself, sadly, "I never appreciated my parents before. I always argued with them because they treated me like a child. But now I realize what a blessing this is, and that there are people who have been deprived of this blessing."

---

An hour later

Lana obtained permission from the head of the Association. He was lenient with her because she had always been punctual, and this was the first time she had asked to leave early.

She heard the sound of running coming from the hallway of the treatment rooms and saw the nurse running toward her, saying, "Miss Lana! Miss Lana!"

"What is it, Talia?" Lana replied, surprised.

"Patient Mohin has escaped."

"What?"

---

A few minutes earlier

Nurse Talia entered the treatment room where Mohin was. She saw Mohin standing on the bed, excited.

Talia asked, "Why are you excited, Mohin?"

"Because I'm getting out of this gloomy room," Mohin replied.

"Excuse me, Mohin, but you cannot leave this room until you are fully diagnosed. To ensure there is no remaining damage."

"It will take you too much time. There's no need for diagnosis. I know I'm fine."

Mohin headed toward the door, but Talia blocked him and said, "I'm sorry, Mohin, but I cannot allow you to leave without diagnosis. That's the treatment policy."

Mohin took a step back, turned his back to Talia, and approached the window.

Talia clarified, "Mohin, don't even think about it. We're on the second floor, and you haven't fully recovered yet. Step away from the window."

Mohin turned his head toward Talia, and a mischievous smile appeared on his face. He began slowly opening the window.

Talia said, "Mohin, please, close the window, and I will speak with the diagnosis team to speed up your examination."

Mohin opened the window completely and said, "To hell with the diagnosis team." Then he jumped out the window.

"Mohin!" Talia screamed loudly. She ran out of the room, saw Lana in front of her, and said, "Miss Lana! Miss Lana!"

"What is it, Talia?"

"Patient Mohin has escaped."

"What?"

"He escaped through the window because he doesn't want to be diagnosed."

"And why doesn't he want to?"

"He said they would take too long."

Lana processed the situation and began laughing softly. She said, "It's fine. Let him escape."

"But we have to diagnose him."

"Do you think an ordinary patient would jump out of a window like a madman? Don't worry. I'm sure he's fine."
