c134: The Return of the Divine Rice
"Speaking of Luya, you've disappeared for such a long time. Can you tell me where you went?"
Suddenly Whis spoke. His serene smile remained, but his staff gleamed faintly as his eyes narrowed toward Luya.
Luya's heart skipped a beat. He realized instantly, Whis had noticed his absence across space-time!
The corner of his mouth twitched slightly. The so-called "system" that guided him was truly unreliable if even an Angel could expose his movements.
System: "..."
After some thought, Luya forced a calm smile. "I went to train. I needed to temper myself before the Tournament of Power."
Whis observed him in silence for a long moment, his divine aura flowing faintly. Finally, he nodded, but his voice carried a warning edge. "Training is commendable… however, restrain yourself. Things are more complicated than you may realize. Keep a low profile, Luya."
Luya immediately understood that Whis was offering him an escape route, sparing him from suspicion. He quickly nodded: "I understand. I'll be careful!"
Beerus, however, was less subtle. His sharp, feline eyes narrowed as he leaned forward with curiosity. "Oi, what's this all about? Whis, Luya what are you two hiding from me? Or Luya… what did you really do?"
For the God of Destruction, minor matters were often beneath his notice. He usually left such details to Whis. That was why Beerus still hadn't pieced together Luya's true excursions through time and space.
Luya replied awkwardly, scratching the back of his neck. "It's nothing… just that something went wrong during my training, that's all."
Beerus' ears flicked. His tone sharpened. "That's not acceptable. Don't forget, you're representing the Seventh Universe in the Tournament. If you throw a match or lose without giving your all, you know exactly what the consequences will be!"
Even a God of Destruction was bound by Zeno's rules: if Universe 7 lost, Beerus himself would be erased. The thought made even Beerus' tail bristle slightly.
Luya bowed his head solemnly. "I won't let Universe 7 down."
Whis only smiled faintly and let the matter drop.
Just then, Bulma arrived with Vegeta and her two little "imps," as Beerus liked to call them Trunks and Goten.
"Ah, Luya, you're here too?" Bulma greeted brightly. "We haven't seen you in ages. You've gotten even more handsome!"
Luya: "…"
Vegeta: "…"
Luya could practically feel Vegeta's icy glare drilling into his back. Great. Just what I need Bulma giving Vegeta more reasons to hold grudges against me.
"Brother Luya!" Trunks and Goten chimed in happily.
Luya softened, nodding to them. "Hello, you two."
Then a thought struck him. "By the way, where's Trunks? The future one, I mean. Has he already left?"
Bulma nodded with a sigh. "Yes, he has. I made sure to store enough fuel in the Time Machine for him. Since the Earth of his timeline no longer exists, he and Mai went to seek a place where they can survive. I don't know exactly where."
Luya nodded in understanding. He wasn't surprised.
"Alright then. I just finished preparing some food come and eat together," Bulma offered warmly.
At the mention of food, Beerus' ears perked up instantly. "Excellent! Bulma, you really know how to please me!"
Whis chuckled lightly. "Indeed, Miss Bulma, your culinary gifts are a treasure of this Earth. Each time I visit, I look forward to them."
Bulma waved a hand proudly. "Oh, it's nothing! As long as Mr. Whis looks after Earth, we'll keep the meals coming!"
"Oh my, you flatter me," Whis replied with a mischievous smile.
"Enough chatter!" Beerus interrupted. "Where's the food? I'm starving." He stalked toward the table Bulma had prepared.
Luya exchanged a glance with Vegeta. The Saiyan Prince gave him a cold, unreadable look, but Luya only nodded politely and accepted the hospitality.
During the meal, Luya learned that the Tournament of Power was only five days away. Once dessert was finished, he excused himself to train. Five days wasn't long, but it was enough to sharpen his edge.
Still, he hesitated. His final task required confronting the GT timeline's most dangerous enemy Omega Shenron (Yi Xing Long), the One-Star Shadow Dragon. That monster, empowered by all seven corrupted Dragon Balls, possessed strength that dwarfed even Super Saiyan 4. Could he really handle such a foe within five days? If he miscalculated and destabilized space-time again, the Tournament might be over before he returned.
Meanwhile, Goku was also racing across Earth to recruit Universe 7's warriors. One by one, he gathered Piccolo, Gohan, Krillin, Android 18, Master Roshi, Buu, and even Android 17. With himself and Vegeta, they had nearly the full ten. Remembering Tien, Goku stopped by his dojo.
Tien, however, shook his head firmly. "I must walk my own path as a martial artist. With my current power, I would only drag you down in such a tournament. Forgive me."
Understanding his pride, Goku didn't press further. He bid farewell and later regrouped with Gohan and Piccolo on an isolated island.
There, Piccolo was drilling Gohan mercilessly. Sweat poured down Gohan's face as he struggled but bit by bit, the dormant flame within him rekindled. The same flame that had once defeated Majin Buu.
Piccolo's eyes gleamed with pride as he barked orders. "Remember, Gohan! You have a power far beyond anyone else. You must reclaim it, no matter what!"
Goku remembered vividly: during the Buu arc, Old Kai had unlocked Gohan's hidden potential, allowing him to surpass even Super Saiyan 3. Yet after years of neglecting his training, Gohan's edge had dulled. But now… he was clawing his way back.
"HRRRAAAAAAAAHHHH!!"
With a deafening roar, white-hot light erupted around Gohan. His aura exploded outward, leveling the island, sending rocks and trees flying into the sky.
Goku's eyes widened with delight. "So strong!"
Piccolo folded his arms, a rare smile tugging at his lips. "Yes. The real Gohan has finally returned." In his heart, he could not be prouder his pupil, his surrogate son, reclaiming his destiny.
"With fighters like this, our universe has a real chance to win," Goku said eagerly.
But Piccolo was not so easily reassured. "Don't underestimate the others, Goku. The other universes have warriors just as powerful. This is about survival itself. If we lose… we're erased."
Goku's smile faltered for a moment. "Yeah. I know."
Piccolo studied him sharply. "You're hiding something from me, aren't you?"
"Eh? W-what makes you say that?" Goku stammered.
Piccolo smirked. "I know you too well, Goku. You can't hide anything from me."
Cornered, Goku confessed: "If our team loses… our entire universe will be destroyed. Zeno said so himself."
Piccolo's face darkened. The weight of the truth hit him hard. He shut his eyes and exhaled. "Then we have no choice. We must win. There's no room for mistakes."
Goku nodded firmly. "Exactly. And with Gohan back to his true self, we've got a real shot."
"Dad!" Gohan landed, his aura still burning bright. His stance was firm, his gaze unshakable.
"Congratulations, Gohan," Goku said proudly. "You've regained your heroic spirit."
Gohan nodded. "Thanks to Piccolo's training… I finally feel like myself again. Dad, I want to fight you seriously. Will you spar with me?"
For a moment, Goku blinked in surprise. Then, seeing the determination in Gohan's eyes, he grinned widely. "Of course. Let's go, Gohan."
At last, the warrior once hailed as the Divine Rice (Mystic Gohan) had returned.
