"Yuto, drop your form," Maurice commanded. "If you don't pace yourself, you're going to hit a wall."
I nodded and deactivated the Knight King state. Now that we knew Trihexa was an endless factory, we had to conserve every drop of stamina. The second tier of the Balance Breaker was an incredible drain on the body, and unlike Issei-kun, I hadn't fully mastered the efficiency of this power yet.
Maurice tapped his earpiece. "Rias, what's the status on your end?"
"To be honest? It's grim," Rias's voice came through. "Sairaorg and the others are holding the line for now, but if the enemy numbers keep swelling like this…"
"I figured. Any word on reinforcements?"
"Azazel said it's going to take time. The mere fact that Trihexa has been resurrected has thrown every mythological faction into a state of total panic. They've promised aid, but there's no telling how long it will take for their forces to mobilize and arrive."
It made sense. If you heard the Beast of the Apocalypse—a monster on par with Great Red—had returned, you'd be terrified too. And since Trihexa had only been active for a short time, the response was lagging.
This facility was a research center. It was populated by scholars, not warriors. The number of people here who could actually fight was severely limited.
Currently, the only ones holding the line were the 'D×D' members, a handful of Fallen Angels and Devils, and the Angels dispatched from Heaven. The enemy could replenish their ranks instantly; our numbers only went down.
"If we don't do something soon, we're going to be crushed by sheer weight of numbers!" Lisha shouted. She leaped into the air, her twin Magic-Armor pistols barked as she sniped a distant dragon. A swarm of floating guns and shields orbited her, providing a simultaneous barrage of offense and defense. She was a whirlwind, protecting wounded allies and thinng the swarm with surgical precision.
She must have promoted to 'Queen' during the recent battles. She navigated the battlefield with the mobility of a 'Knight' while unleashing the firepower of a high-tier mage. Lisha had once told me this style only worked because of her coordination with the two fairies, but seeing it in action was like watching a deadly, beautiful dance.
Maurice looked up at Trihexa. "Listen up. Our job right now isn't to kill that thing. I mean, that would be the best-case scenario, but it's not happening. We were caught off guard and the power gap is too wide. Unless a miracle happens, we aren't winning this fight. Our goal is to evacuate the non-combatants and hold the line until that monster retreats. Don't overextend yourselves!"
Xenovia and I nodded.
I caught my breath and raised my sword, bracing for the next wave… but then, it happened.
A change came over Trihexa and the Evil Dragons scattered across the battlefield. Massive magic circles began to manifest beneath their feet.
"What is that…?" Rossweisse whispered.
Before we could react, the enemy forces began to vanish into the light of the teleportation circles. The dragons in the sky, the clones, Apophis—who had been locked in a death match with Alice-san—and even the massive bulk of Trihexa itself… they all disappeared.
"They… they warped away?"
The battlefield, which had been a screaming cacophony of violence only seconds ago, fell into an eerie, ringing silence. It was as if the entire battle had been a hallucination.
We stood there, bewildered by the sudden retreat, our guards still raised. Voices of confusion and hushed warnings rippled through the survivors.
We scanned the horizon, searching for a trap. Then, a voice broke through the comms. It was Irina.
"Everyone, this is bad! Trihexa just appeared in Heaven!"
